Bulls sold with a “Responsible Breeder Guarantee of Satisfaction.” In the unlikely events of a dispute, the regular terms and conditions standard with the applicable breed association shall apply. In any case, the seller is not responsible for more than what the bull sold for at the auction mart.

Purchasers Risk – Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Insurance will be available sale day.

OUR PROGRAM Our cattle run in the Battle River Valley so structure is key as they have to walk up and down hills grazing and for water. We don’t pamper our cows; they run like our commercial herd, on grass as long as possible then bale grazing until calving. Our cows don’t get second chances, they raise a quality calf and come

in bred on time or they go down the road. Our aim is to have cattle that are functional and sound for a very long time, easy doing cattle that convert feed into pounds while catching a grade. We use the best sires we can, through both AI and natural service and use embryo transfer to increase our rate of genetic advancement. We work with the Lloydminster Animal Hospital to provide a complete herd health program.


Dear FriendsHard to believe it’s this time of year again. It felt like we were going to be stuck in an eternal spring after the one we went through in 2017. We spent months in mud and it made AI and embryo work (and pretty much anything that involved cows in the corral) much more challenging this year! Was such a huge relief when we were finally able to get cows & calves out on solid ground again! But by late summer we then were grateful for all that moisture in the spring.

This past summer we hit the show road with the kids leading the charge. Kurt was honored to be asked to judge the Provincial 4-H Heifer Show in conjunction with Summer Synergy in Olds. We figured the kids would have fun at Synergy as well, so they got a taste of a pretty amazing program and made some new friends. Thanks to the Cinder and K-Cow kids, both Quinn &Trigg were able to borrow calves to show in the showmanship class. They had great stories to tell for the rest of the summer about the calves they had shown (they were not black).The kids, also got a chance to participate in the Canadian Junior Angus Association Showdown in Lloydminster. It was another really wonderful learning opportunity for the kids where they once again made many more friends in the industry from across Western Canada. August brought the annual Alberta Junior Angus Association Show, that we all look forward to and the kids did a wonderful job showing us what they had learned through the summer. We managed to hit a few pen shows through the summer as well as having cattle on display at the Sask. Angus summer tour.

Speaking of summer tours, we’d like to invite you all to the Northern Alberta Angus Club summer tour being hosted by us this year June 15&16. Make sure to let us know if you’d like more info.

We really put a lot of emphasis on the momma cows, they are the heart of our herd. We are very proud of the herd of cows we have put together and are very selective for maternal traits and longevity. Through the use of embryo transplant and strict culling and sire selection we are very pleased with the direction of our program. Rest assured that these bulls come from mother cows that are sound and productive with tremendous udder quality, efficient in their production and carry themselves in good condition while producing a top end calf. We feel that behind every good bull is a good cow. When we select our herd bulls we always want to do our homework and see their mother. We are sure you probably feel the same way. Come for a tour and check things out or if you are busy and can’t get away please pick up the phone and don’t be afraid to ask us any questions. We know our cows and can give you more information to help with your selection.

The bulls are being developed along nicely this year on a whole oat and barley silage total mixed ration. As always these bulls are fully guaranteed and if for some reason there is an issue we want to be the first to know. We always carry spare bulls and will have one to get your cows bred should an issue arise.

In 2015 I traveled many miles to look for our next great herd bull. We wanted a bull that would be a foot improver with big time performance and muscle shape. One that had a ton of fore rib, big middle and most importantly backed by a terrific mother with a history of good production and efficiency. I found what I was looking for at Johnson Livestock and the search was over. He has an EPD profile that will blow your mind. He was one of the highest YW bulls in Canada that year. We were lucky enough to partner with Clifford Land and Cattle and got him bought as the high seller that day at $19,000. We had to stretch to get him but we weren’t going home without him. His first and only daughter to go on offer was Pedersen Undiscovered 301D and was a high seller in the Fall Fusion Sale to our new partners at Avelyn Angus and Goad Family Angus. His sons were well accepted last year and his first daughters are calving this year with much anticipation and excitement.

The 2015 National and Farmfair Reserve Champion Senior Bull. We found this great bull down at the great herd of Bar-E-L. He is an own son of the two-time Agribition champion, Southland Thriller, who is known for producing terrific females. He is a real power house with a terrific front end and awesome feet and legs. He received many compliments from those that saw him, amazed at how a bull with his mass and muscle could move out so freely. He sired Pedersen Confidence 39C our high selling bull at $16,000 to Grant Lodge and Diamond B. His daughters are very angular made with absolutely beautiful udders with small teats, level fore udder and ample milk flow. We cannot say enough about what this bull has done for our program and will continue to do going forward.

Bulldoze was our 2014 high selling bull to Clifford Land and Cattle and we were fortunate enough to buy an interest in him back to use ourselves. He has not disappointed. We have used him on our heifers each year and he has calved out nicely. His calves have extra hair and are a very consistent group. They are moderate in frame but have wide tops, big hips and nice headed. His mother 184S is a donor cow for us and has produced a tremendous set of females from her first flush. Unfortunately, we lost him last fall due to a stifle injury but we will continue to use him in our AI program. We think his daughters may be his true legacy.

This could very well be one of our proudest breeding accomplishments to date. This fella has found friends everywhere we have taken him. He was the anchor bull of the Champion Pen of three at Farmfair, as well as a division finalist in Legends of the Fall show and in the King of the Ring at Stockade Roundup. No matter what angle you look at him from you have to appreciate him for his muscle pattern and explosive shape. A full sibling heifer sold to Wiwa Creek at the Angus Collection sale in 2015. His dam will be entering our Donor Program and is a beautiful made, moderate female with an ideal udder. Combining the 2015 Reserve National Senior Champion Bull with this Tiger daughter makes for a very proven and useful Pedigree. We wish to use this bull in the future in our own program so will be retaining a 1/3 semen interest.

We thought an awful lot of this bull and his mother together on pasture this summer and were very tempted to drag them out as a pair last fall. A full trailer and the fact that she isn’t halter broke may have slowed us down but their quality sure didn’t. This guy is chalk full of red meat and muscle like most Resource sons. His dam has one of the nicest udders you will find in any pasture; with nice short teats and square placement.

A Muchmore son we really admire for his overall balance and style. Very clean made through that front end yet explosive from the rear. OUR PROGRAM We farm on the original Johnson homestead that was settled in 1906. Our son Wyatt is the fifth generation on this farm. Our land base is around 2500 acres of grain, pasture and hay, plus we use the community pasture in CFB Wainright. Around 2007 Wyatt decided to take his 4-H money and purchase some Simmental cows and heifers. Bernice and I decided to jump on board and purchase some as well,

thus the creation of WJ Simmentals. The foundations of our herd came from XXX Farms, Campbell Simmentals, Siam Farms and Ginalta Farms. Our Charolais herd also started with bred heifers from XXX Farms. Over the years we’ve had a small backgrounder program of around 300 head in the winter. In the spring we would buy heifers and sell them as breds in the fall, thus giving us lots of experience with many different aspects of the cattle industry.

We selected Bartender out of Jaydawn Farms bull sale on the recommendation from Mark Shologan. We don’t typically buy bulls sight unseen but time could not get us up there and having known Mark for years we trusted his opinion. We were hoping for a bull to complement Encore and use on our Encore females. When Jason showed up at our farm and he walked off the trailer, we more than excited about what we had done. Bartender breeds true to himself also adding some power and a touch of frame to his calves, but not comprising calving ease. We were fortunate enough to find Encore in 2014 at Farm Fair (thanks to Kurt). Soon as we saw him, we knew that he was the bull we needed! Encore has won almost every show he has entered. He was champion at Fort Worth, Denver, Olds, Agribition, Farm Fair, and a supreme finalist at Agribition and Farm Fair where he missed winning the truck by a couple points! We found Chuckwagon on a farm tour at Springside Farms the fall of 2015. When we saw him and found out he was going to be sold at the Alberta Charolais Select that December, we knew we needed to try and buy him. As the day turned out we were not able to buy him but after the sale and talking to McKeary’s, they agreed to sell us a semen interest on him. We felt he was going to compliment Encore very well. We purchased Total Value in 2016 from Robb Farms. I really like the dark red pigment he possesses, as well as his depth spring of rib and natural muscling. POLLED. This middle of March bull is the only son in this year’s sale from SOS Top Gun. If you like big time performance bulls take a good look here. His mother is a full sister to the $75,000 Gerrard Pastor.

Last year just days before our bull sale our little community was struck with the loss an entire family of four as well as a young man in his early 20s in a head on vehicle accident just outside of Amisk. Seeing how much tragedies affect our local volunteer fire and rescue we felt there was a need to give thanks for everything they do to keep our community safe.

We decided to auction off a chance to win a purebred heifer from our operation in memory of Ryley Spears and Tim, Michelle, Nicole and Shawn Carson. One of the greatest things about living in a small community is how people come together in times of need and comfort. This auction exceeded our wildest dreams and we raised in excess of $19,000 for the West End Fire and Rescue in memory of those we lost. They have used the funds to purchase some much needed safety equipment to help keep our volunteers safe.
