Transcript of TThhhee HHeerraalldd+He+Loved+Me+First.pdf · them and they love me.” ... explore how God loved...
~ 1 ~
We have a little ritual in our house: The kids climb into the rocking
chair where we recite in rhythem all the people who love them. “Momma
loves you. Daddy loves you. Grandma loves you. Grandpa loves you.
Aunt Jillinda loves you....” We continue to name extended family and
freinds until we cannot think of another person. Then I ask, “Why do all of
these people love you?” To which they answer, “Because God loves
them and they love me.” I started this little recicitation of love to make
sure my children know deep in their hearts that there are a plethra of
people who love them. Most of all, I want them to know that God’s loves
them, passionately.
Passion is an important word in our Christian vocabulary. It is more than radical militantism or
spirited enthusiasm. It signified a deep love which moves people to action. This is why Christ’s final
days before the Crucixion and Resurrection are called, “The Passion.” Christ was on a mission to
express God’s radical love tfor the world.
I will continue my sermon series: “I Love My Church.” It is
already having a positive impact upon the congregation as I hear
and see more people expressing their affectionate feelings for one
another. Starting the first Sunday of Lent (February 22), we will to
explore how God loved through the Passion of the Cross.
I hope you will take the opporunty to join a Lenten Home
Bible Study small group! We will study Adam Hamilton’s, “24 Hours
that Changed the World.” He said, “No single event in human
history has received more attention than the suffering and
crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth.” In this Lenten study, Adam
Hamilton will guide us through the last twenty-four hours of Jesus'
life. Sign up online, in the Sanctuary foyer, or call the Church
Office.
In Christian Love,
Pastor Ivan

you are part of a Denomination (i.e., “Baptist,

not be able to locate you easily, if at all.
Ideally, you or a family member should call
the Church Office at (217) 222-1310 or
Pastor Ivan’s cell phone (217) 653-9613 to
let them know you have been admitted to the
hospital, giving your room number when

we know you are in the hospital. Thank you for
your cooperation!

bring a thing!

spread the word!

Also, if you or someone you know would
like to attend but cannot afford the cost of this
event, please let me know. Thanks, Julie Miller
CELEBRATE AND
RECOVERY MINISTRY
None of us is untainted; we have all
sinned. It is in our nature to do so. Our sin
has led us to hurt ourselves and those around
us. What we need is repentance and recovery
to live the life God had intended for us. You
have heard the expression “time heals all
wounds”. It would be a helpful expression if
only it were true. The expression is offered in
hopes that if we would just ignore our problems
they will somehow magically go away. But
both sin and wounds left unattended infect us
and extend our pain.
You don’t recover from your hurts, hang-
ups and habits just by attending Celebrate
Recovery meetings anymore than attending
church makes you a model Christ follower. But
here you can find help and hope by learning to
live out the eight principles drawn from Jesus’
Beatitudes along with the 12 Steps and their
biblical comparisons. If the Lord has revealed
it is time for you to address your hurts, hang-
ups or habits, come join our men’s meeting
on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 in the
room 202. You will find a welcoming
atmosphere where others like you are
overcoming their challenges by God’s grace.
For more information or questions call David
Schuring 217-974-0903. CANS FOR KIDS – The
Ministry of Children collects
aluminum cans to recycle for
our children’s programming.

All cans are welcome. Please place your
empty cans in the blue recycle container
outside the Heritage Room. Cans are
converted to cash at Quincy Recycling by
volunteers. Proceeds support children’s
ministry programming.

Poverty. The money will

Ministry of Missions will decide which school(s)
will receive the pennies. The penny jar is
located in the Sanctuary foyer. We have
received 104,930 pennies to-date. Thank
you for your donations!
