“Inukshuk” is a term from theEskimo/Inuit language. It is a repre-sentational stone figure that assumesa person’s duties. One could compare an INUKSHUK with maybe atraffic light or scare crow. They can befound at selected locations and always carry a special message.

The “Inukshuk” achieved official recognition in modern society, whenit was chosen as logo of the OlympicWinter Games in 2010 in the Canadian city of Vancouver. It was designed in 2005 and named “Ilaanaq” which means “friend” in theEskimo language.

THE STORY

During the recent financial crisis, an in-ternational insurance group created aspecial insurance package for its custo-mers. The mission was to sell it and in-crease the number of field sales forcevisits to customers.

Even with the help of a call centre,the French subsidiary was not able toarrange enough appointments withcustomers. On the contrary: although alot of money had been invested in thecall centre, the number of customer vi-sits dropped. They therefore decided toattract customers’ attention and arousetheir interest with a special gift.

OPEN SESAME!The cube-shaped coin bank SESAME requires neither key norlock. It opens with the help of cen-trifugal force. How does that work?Simply turn the SESAME on its ownaxis. When you hear a fine clickingnoise, you’ve unlocked the plungerlock inside and the coin bank isopen.

TROIKA soon took first place. A selectedgroup of customers received it with aletter containing the following sen-tence: ‘If you want to find out how toopen this piggy bank, arrange an ap-pointment with your sales representa-tive.’ The piggy bank itself was simplyengraved with a modest version of theinsurance company’s logo.

The feedback was astounding! Al-most all of the customers arranged anappointment to find out the trick toopening the piggy bank. The sales forcethen had the opportunity to offer themthe insurance package.

The French subsidiary reported thatthe piggy bank mailshot was less ex-pensive than the cost of call centre tothe parent company. It was thus quicklydecided that all of the European subsi-diaries would use the TROIKA piggybank to continue selling the new insu-rance package successfully.

The Allianz Business Customer ServiceCenter has reorganised its salesstructure with the intention of streng-thening its regional positioning. Theincreased deployment of externalsales staff is expected to reduce fixedoverheads and increase the quota ofpolicies placed. The in-house sloganchosen for the restart is ‘We set themarket in motion’. The marketing divi-sion of the insurance company waslooking for a marketing medium witha wow effect that is suitable for ever-yday use.

THE MEDIUM

The marketing staff found the Mr.Slowhand business card case compel-ling from the word go. Its unusual ope-ning mechanism was a perfect parallelto the insurance company’s dynamicrestructuring plans. The effect was frequently used as an opener for salesdiscussions. The order, comprising250 cases including engraving, fittedperfectly into the budget framework.

The duo-colour leather series Cappuc-cino includes a total of 14 models,which harmonise very well togetherthanks to their design materials andworkmanship. Two presents were se-lected from the whole series:A - PRESENT100 Credit card cases with money clipsengraved with the brand logo(CCC35/LE).

Hohenthaner (better knownas Indigo Design Group), were not satisfied. After an entire year ofchanging and shrinking him, they finally had the solution: JUMPER hadbecome a key-ring. His streamlined,squared-off shape was unusual forthe product group at the time.TROIKA recognised its potential andsecured the production and marke-ting rights to JUMPER.

This is how a door stopper became a door opener. And thesuccess story took its course.

THE STORY

„Our employees are our most impor-tant capital“ is the philosophy of an in-ternational technology company. Inorder to express this belief, the com-pany wanted to find an employee giftthey could give to employees on theirbirthday.

The promotional item had to be suit-able for men and women – and thecompany as well. It also needed toconvey a special message and besomething employees would havewith them every day.

THE MEDIUM

The company quickly decided on JUM-PER in blue – the corporate colour.

The company logo was engraved onJUMPER’s chest, turning him into asmall company ambassador. On hisback, they engraved the name of thebirthday boy or girl. That’s how eachemployee received the same presentover the course of the year; however,due to the personalised touch, the com-pany could express how much they ap-preciated the employees as individuals.

Leonard Heyden/Jost, a German bagmanufacturer, was looking for some-thing special to mark its 120th birth-day, with quality, design and businesstradition as key points. This task wasgiven to the in-house agency.

THE MEDIUMAfter searching for the right product,the agency decided on a particularbag:

The very first ever handbag fromLeonard Heyden, a timeless model“LH-EINS”, was produced as a specialedition with a limited edition of 120bags and equipped with a trend-setting modern item – the TROIKA PO-CKET LAMP. This special editionmodel was partly given as present toVIPs who were connected to thebrand in a special way. Most of themwere however auctioned off at a LH7J-birthday Gala for a good cause.

LET THERE BE LIGHT!

This is not a new problem, but it canbe resolved immediately. The TROIKAPOCKET LAMP is a bag light, key-ringand LED torch all at the same time. Ithas the looks of a miniature moderndesign lamp you would happily hangover your dining table. One quick pullat the lamp is enough to illuminate theentire content of your bag. You can always find your keys at any momentand if necessary shine the lamp ontothe key hole. Through the use of modern LED technology, the POCKETLAMP is light and very robust.
