Lay Eucharist Minister Training Mar 13 Since the earliest Christian times, communion has been brought as an extension of the table to

those unable to attend congregational worship. Our Book of Discipline urges pastors to train laity to distribute Com-munion elements to sick or homebound per-sons. If you are inter-ested in becoming a

part of this new and important ministry, please join us for this training on March 13 at 2 pm at Briggsville UMC. If you have questions or if you like to sign up contact the church office or Pastor Julie.

If you know of a church member or friend who would like to have communion delivered to them, please contact Pastor Julie.

Special day for Moundville UMC There will be cause for real joy on Sunday, Mar. 9 at Moundville UMC when the congregation has its monthly Celebration Sunday and burns its mortgage following the early payoff of a $97,230 mortgage taken out in January 2007. A recep-tion and luncheon is planned and members and friends are invited to bring salads and desserts to share. The theme for Celebration Sunday is Commun-ion and students will learn about what it means to participate in Communion. It will be a special day for the congregation. Join us! Moundville collecting donations

for River Haven homeless shelter The Missions Committee at MUMC is spear-heading a drive to collect household items for residents at River Haven homeless shelter in Portage. The deadline for collecting is March 30. Items needed include: laundry detergent, paper products, cleaning products, foil, wrap, sandwich bags, TracFone cards, cab vouchers, slippers, travel-size and full-size toiletry products.

Classes for lay leaders offered Two classes in March are intended to provide tools to lay leaders as they prepare to serve in the ministry at their church. The first one, Basic Lay Service Ministry Course, is required for those who wish to pursue certification as a lay servant or a lay speaker. The class will be held for four Sundays (March 16, 23, 30 and April 6) at Stoughton United Methodist Church. The registration fee is $20 and can be paid on the first day of class. For more information contact Pastor Stu Allen at 608-752-0548.

Another two week class will explore the con-nectional system of the global United Method-ist Church. The course, United Methodist Poli-ty, will be held at Sugar River United Methodist Church in Verona, from 9-2 on March 22 and 29. District Superintendent Sam Royappa will facilitate both sessions. The registration fee is $20 and must be paid by March. 14. Call Sher-ry Malone at 608-837-0056 for information.

Post Office launching effort

to “Adopt a Service Person” The US Postal Service is encouraging individ-uals and groups to spread the holiday cheer by collecting needed items to send overseas to a local service person or friend or family member of the church. The postal service will provide all the packaging products, forms and tape, and the large flat rate prior mailbox will receive a $2 discount for this project. Sug-gested items for a package are candy (not chocolate), snacks (such as beef jerky, chips, nuts) dried fruit, juice boxes, apple cider pack-ets, toiletries, playing cards, puzzles, new or used DVDs, new or used magazines, socks, t-shirts, and items that service people can give to needy children: match box cars, small stuffed toys, coloring books, adhesive tape, pens and notepads, Frisbees, etc. If you have questions contact the local post office.

Retreat April 4 & 5 brings

“The Healing Hands of God”

Our two-day Women’s retreat will begin Friday, April 4 at 6:30pm, and run until 4pm Saturday afternoon. We will gather at the Sharon Rader Retreat Center at the Pine Lake United Meth-odist Church camp near Westfield. Our theme for this year’s winter retreat is “The Healing Hands of God”. We will renew, refresh and heal our souls. We will also enjoy plenty of time to relax and experience the beauty of Pine Lake, plus some wonderful (and mostly healthy) food.

The cost is $65, and registration forms are available in the church or at the church office. Please register by March 16.

Lenten services, study scheduled The Ash Wednesday service will be at En-deavor UCC on Wednesday, March 5 at 7 pm. Join us as we begin for the Lenten Journey.

This year we introduce a midweek Lenten ser-vice to help prepare spiritually for Holy Week and Easter Sunday. The brief service at 6 pm will be hosted by Moundville UMC on Wednes-days March 12 and 19, and April 2,9 and 16. There will be no midweek service on March 26.

Each of the three churches will also be provid-ing a Lenten study during Adult Sunday School. The book Give Up Something Bad for Lent will be used for the seven week course which started March 2. The author, James Moore, challenges us to give up something spiritually that we would be better off not doing, and seek God’s help to focus on one habit or attitude that is destructive.
