Daniel 6:10 states, “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he

went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he

kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God,

as he did aforetime.”

How many of us have a healthy prayer life? Do any of us have the time? Let's

consider Daniel for a moment. Here is one of the great rulers of the Persian Empire, in

charge of the King's affairs and of the affairs of the entire government. Now if anyone

is really busy -- it's Daniel! But in spite of all this, he makes it a point to set himself

apart from the world and pray three times a day.

This really got me. I mean, how busy are we -- really? And what are we really

doing? Here are just a few of the things that we are working on here at Trinity:

1 - We have recently brought in a new staff member in Matthew Daniel.

Matthew is our new Youth Ministry Coordinator. He will lead our growing youth

department. We have been blessed over the years with growth in this area, and Staff

Parrish is wanting to continue to invest in this wonderful ministry.

2 – Our Building Study Committee has recently completed its task. We have

looked at our current ministries and demographics and have compared them with

projected future numbers and proposed new ministries. On September 6th, we will

share our findings with the church at a called charge conference. All are welcome to be

present.

3 – After a lot of prayer, our new contemporary service will begin on

September 10th in the Fellowship Hall at 11:00 am. This will give a different worship

experience than one would find during our traditional service. Our desire is that we

offer a different way in which others may come into a relationship with Christ.

In addition to these, there are other opportunities that are going on around

Trinity that are keeping us busy. We are waiting on new energy efficient windows for

the sanctuary. We continue to hear a calling from our Missions Committee on how we

can continue to change lives. We are also preparing for our fall activities with new

Bible studies, PEP Club gatherings, BBQs, Festival of Tables, Fall Festival, and so on.

Things are on the move.

With all that being said, I still ask; “How busy are we -- really? And what are

we really doing?” We need to make sure that we are putting things in the right order.

We need to make sure that we are not just doing “busy work” for the sake of doing

work and that we are actually doing God’s work. It's like this. If we are neglecting the

important things of God, we're simply doing more than God intended! Let's keep our

priorities in order! Let's be a people of prayer! There's so much work to be done – But

none of it can be done without God!

TREASURER’S REPORT (July 2017)

Music Ministry News After Labor day, we will start back to regular practice times for the music programs. The Handbell choir

will practice at 4:30 pm on Wednesdays. The Chancel Choir will practice at 7:00 pm on Wednesdays. Now

is the time to join these groups if you are interested. Please come and add your talent to our music program.

The orchestra invites you to join us. If you play an instrument, speak to Albert.

As we start the season, I thought I would use some of this space to give information about some history of

music. I found information about Martin Luther, and I decided that instead of writing it in my words, I

would give you the words from a book of hymn stories called Then Sings My Soul. The following is an excerpt from

that book:

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

1529

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

We think of Martin Luther as a great reformer, Bible translator, political leader, fiery preacher, and theologian.

But he was also a musician, having been born in an area of Germany known for its music. There in his little

Thuringian village, young Martin grew up listening to his mother sing. He joined a boys’ choir that sang at weddings

and funerals. He became proficient with the flute (recorder), and his volcanic emotions often erupted in song.

When the Protestant Reformation began, Luther determined to restore worship to the German Church. He

worked with skilled musicians to create new music for Christians to be sung in the vernacular. He helped revive

congregational singing and wrote a number of hymns.

Often he “borrowed” popular secular melodies for his hymns, though occasionally a tune brought criticism and

he was “compelled to let the devil have it back again” because it was too closely associated with bars and taverns.

In the forward of a book, Luther once wrote: “Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest

treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, hearts, and spirits……. A person who …..does not regard music

as a marvelous creation of God …...does not deserve to be called a human being; he should be permitted to hear

nothing but the braying of asses and the grunting of hogs.”

Luther’s most famous hymn is “Ein’ feste Burg ist unser Gott,” - “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” Based on

Psalm 46, it reflects Luther’s awareness of our intense struggle with Satan. In difficulty and danger, Luther would

often resort to this song, saying to his associate, “Come, Philipp, let us sing the 46th Psalm.”

This is a difficult hymn to translate because the original German is so vivid. At least 80 English

versions are available.

SUNDAY NIGHT TRINITY KIDS AND MYF ARE

HERE SOON!

Our Sunday night regular children’s and youth

activities will start back up Sunday, Sept. 10th. This

year we will be meeting at 5:00 pm and finishing up

at 6:30 pm. Each night will include a meal, followed

by worship, scripture, crafts, games and more. If you

have any questions, please contact Charles.

We have already started planning this upcoming

Fall meal calendar for Trinity Kids and MYF. If

you would like to provide a meal, please contact

Charles, and we can sign you up for a date.

Congregations’ Care Corner

Our congregation is growing, and many are aging. Therefore, the needs of our members have become more demanding. We do

an outstanding job of taking care of those outside of our church, and we have worked diligently over the years to do the same

for those who are members or attendees of Trinity. In order to continue a quality level of service, we are in need of several

additional people to help out in different areas.

1. We need drivers to provide transportation for those who cannot transport themselves. Some need transportation to church

on Sunday or one of our special programs. Others have general transportation needs that might be able to be met if we have

enough people who are willing to “step up to the plate.” If you have the time to pick someone up and take them home on

Sunday or are availability at other times to transport please contact Debbie Snow at 843-995-2950.

2. Many of our congregants have relocated from other areas of the country to our community. Oftentimes they are without

additional family members close by. There are some who actually have no family and would be blessed by visit from a

member of our congregation. Just having someone to sit and talk with can be such a relief for someone who is sick or shut

in. If you have even a limited amount of time available during the month, your assistance with this matter would be such a

blessing. If you are interested in doing visitations, please contact Marianne Vandawalker at 843-945-0866.

If there are any other types of assistance that you are willing to offer, please let us know.

You can also contact Reverend Ed at 843-421-7257 or at the church office at 843-272-5236.

Moses Moses Moses

On September 28th at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, I will be beginning a fall study group on Moses. The class will consist of an in-depth

study of God, His will for us, and how He can use anyone, righteous or not as He used Moses. God uses our willing hands and feet in order

to accomplish His work here on earth.

Nevertheless, so many of us underrate ourselves and, therefore, we are never used by God to the fullest of our ability. We will look in depth

at scripture from the Old and New Testament and prayerfully gain a greater understanding of what God attempts to convey to us through His

word in the Holy Bible. This will be a six-week course with the closing gathering on the 7th week. As always, my classes are open ended,

meaning that you come when you can. I will always make sure that you're provided with material to keep you up-to-date and moving in the

right direction. I believe you will be Spirit-filled by this course and learn a little bit more about God's plan for you. Anyone who is interested

in taking this study please let Charles know as soon as possible because there will be material over and above the book for the study that I

would like to get into your hands a week or more prior to our first class. I would like our opening to be powerful, informative, Spirit-filled

and uplifting.

Love & blessings, Rev Ed

Mission Ministry News September 2017 Thank You – What an awesome congregation! You donated $2903.00 for back-to-school shoes for needy

children. Helpings Hand has been giving $20.00 gift cards to each child. Because of your generosity and a little

money left over from last year, this year all of the 81 children who applied will receive a $40.00 gift card. This

year the parents will need to add very little in order to get shoes. We really do not know how to thank you. Your

support of Missions is beyond words like “thank you.” We show you a worthy cause, and you always exceed our

expectations. We are blessed to be part of a giving and loving church.

Widow’s Mite – This is the organization that we work with to dig wells. They are currently raising money to send

water purifiers and solar lights to Christians in Syria who are living in camps. They have water, but it is unhealthy.

At night they have little or no lights. I have put information on the Mission bulletin board about how you can help.

If you have questions, please contact Frank Autry.

OPEN DOORS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED. Epworth Children’s

Home goes above and beyond just food and shelter for children who

have experienced abuse, neglect and tragedy. It provides children

with tutoring, counseling, health care, fun activities, and the

spiritual formation they need to heal and gain a sense of belonging.

Through the ministry of Epworth Children’s Home, we open our

doors to these children, surround them with comprehensive care and

provide them with the opportunity to transform their lives. On

Sunday, September 10th , our congregation will stand with Epworth

to break the cycle of abuse, neglect and shame through our collection

of the Annual Epworth Work Day Offering. Without the support of

churches like ours, Epworth could not provide transformational care

for children in need. We invite you to give generously to the children

who call Epworth home. For more information, please visit Epworth

on the web at www.epworthchildrenshome.org.

men and women who protect and serve our

community and our country. On September

4th our Labor Day service on the lawn will

be dedicated to our military, police officers,

firefighters, EMS workers and all first responders. Please plan

to help us to say thank you to them by attending the program.

As always, there will be a free meal; our music will be Dusty

Stanton, all starting at 4:30 pm. For more information, please

contact Rev. Ed or the church office.

Helping Out….. And Other Things…… by Marie Peacock

Often it is so easy to say someone else will help and miss the opportunity to provide a service to the church and to meet other

members. Some things take a commitment of several months, a week, or only a few hours for one day. During Vacation Bible

School volunteers not only helped with the children who attended but also they had the opportunity to meet others of different

age groups and from different services. The benefit of feeling welcomed into the church family was a wonderful bonus. Trinity

provides an opportunity to meet others and to serve in so many ways.

Presently we are in need of a coordinator for Loose Change at the 11 o’clock service on the third Sunday. It involves asking

four people to stand at the door with a bucket, then collecting the money and putting it in a pouch, dropping it in the safe and

storing the buckets on the shelf in the closet. This is a good opportunity to give people a chance to do a little job that means a

lot. Call the church office if you are willing to volunteer to coordinate this activity.

We hope you have noticed over the last year or so the difference in the attendance sheets and the new folders. This is a work in

progress, and it is helping us to do a better job of keeping our attendance records. We have run into one problem which we have

not solved yet with the present computer program, and that is to know when you are not present and would like for someone to

call or know why you are not in attendance. If you have a need, please let us know so we can find a way to help out.

The other area we are working on is envelopes and how you would like to receive them. If you wish to get a contribution

statement, you must have an envelope number. We are finding out that some people do not care to have a contribution

statement, and that is fine. Since we need to place our envelope order three months in advance, how would you like to receive

your envelopes? Presently we are sending them out monthly, but they can come in a box in January, be monthly or quarterly.

Look for a survey in your bulletin in September, or you can just fill out the form below with your name as to your preference in

the church office. It will have to be a group decision, and the majority will be the deciding factor.

PS: Thank Leslie and Rita for their time and effort in making our attendance program better.
