A Pastor’s Ponderings "...As each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent),

employ it for one another as good trustees of God's many-sided grace. Whoever

let him do it as with the strength which God furnishes abundantly, so that in all

Have you ever asked yourself, “What gifts do I have to offer?” I have a

feeling that many of us have those thoughts pass through our minds. But the

fact of the matter is God has blessed us all with so much and we are supposed to

be responsible with those gifts and talents.

We are to share the gifts God has given to us, to uplift and inspire and

challenge each other. Our gifts are meant for encouraging others to rise to their

full potential in God. We all have been given a gift that we can use to help

someone else along the way. No matter what it is – big or small – we have a

part to play and we can use our gifts for God’s glory.

If you are not sure what gift or talent you may have, that God has given

you – ask Him to reveal it to you. It may be what you consider a natural ability

it to us so we can use it to encourage and inspire others, and therefore glorify

TREASURER’S REPORT (JUNE 2016)

Music Ministry News

I want to start by thanking everyone for all the wonderful birthday wishes. My birthday Sunday was

fabulous, especially listening and watching you sing some of my favorite hymns. The choir did a great

job with "Blessed Assurance." Thank you just doesn't seem enough.

Singing hymns in church is a long standing tradition. Originally modeled after Psalms and other

poetic passages, Christians have sung hymns in worship. One definition of hymn is "a lyric poem,

reverently or devotional conceived, which is designed to be sung and expresses the worshiping attitude

toward God or God's purpose in human life. It should be simple and metrical in form, genuinely

emotional, poetic and literary in style, spiritual in quality, and in its ideas so direct and so immediately apparent as

to unify a congregation while singing it.” Christian hymns are often written with special or seasonal themes. Others

are used to encourage or to celebrate or to praise. There are many people who have written some of our

favorites. The tune style or form designates gospel songs as distinct from hymns. Gospel songs generally have a

refrain, or chorus, and usually a faster tempo. For example, "Amazing Grace" is a hymn (no refrain), and "How

Great Thou Art" is a gospel song. Interesting - I thought so.

The Grand Strand Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, of which Karen and Albert are both members,

has asked Trinity to host its annual Service of Convocation. This is a service centered around wonderful music. It

will be Friday, August 26th, at 6:00 pm. We hope you will add this to your calendar. It should be something you

will not want to miss.

On Sunday, August 28th, I invite you to lunch, served here, immediately following the 11:00

service. It is Albert's 60th birthday, and we will celebrate big. Watch for sign-up sheets in the

bulletin. I will need you to turn these in so we know how much food to prepare.

Do you know anyone who cannot come to church for health or other reasons, but really misses the worship experience? Trinity is now offering "Church at Home,” a full worship service on a

small scale. We can make accommodations as needed for any challenge. Please call Gerry Ferguson, 843-360-5584, or Carolyn Marker, 843-361-1942, to refer someone or request this for yourself.

Trinity on the Move

After years of prayer and consideration,

we are finally ready to move forward with our

Sunday evening praise and worship service.

The start up date and time will be announced

soon. It is going to take the efforts of a number

of people to make this happen. Right now we are

seeking people to do the audio and video prep

work, to prepare the background scenes for the

words to each song, to learn to adjust the audio

and video on the fly, and to coordinate with the

Praise Team. This is a challenging area to cover,

but it is also very rewarding. There will be train-

ing sessions so even the technologically chal-

lenged will be able to handle the job. If you are

interested or would like more information,

please contact Rev. Ed or Charles.

We are gearing up for a new school year! But, while we are planning and looking ahead to our Sunday Nights in the fall, we still have some summer left. In addition to the pool party we are doing with the children, we are also having one more summer trip for just the youth.

On August 10th, we will be going to Waccattee Zoo. We will be leaving the church at 10 am. The cost is $10 per student. We are looking forward to seeing all of you there!

Terrific Tuesdays

We still have two Terrific Tuesdays left! We have a beach day

on August 2nd and then we will have a bowling outing on

August 9th. If you are interested in participating contact

Charles or the church office.

LOVE TO COOK?

We are once again looking for people to help cook for our youth and

children on Sunday Night. If you are interested in scheduling a Sunday Night, or if you have any questions

please contact Charles or the church office.

NEW RELEASE FORMS

It is that time of year again to fill out release

forms for the 2016-2017 school year. If you

have a child under 18 that participates in

our Sunday Night program or any of our

special events throughout the year, please

stop by the office and fill out a release form.

This will cover their involvement through

next summer.

It’s time for a Pool Party!

It’s that time of year again for our end of summer pool party! The party

is once again at the Power’s house and is for all of our youth and

children. It will be held August 14th at 3pm. We will have hamburgers,

hot dogs, chips and drinks again this year, and if you would like to help

provide part of the food, or if you need directions, contact Charles, the

church office, or email [email protected].

Mission Ministry News August 2016 We are digging 5 wells – Please see the article in this newsletter by Carolyn Marker, for an update on the wells. I have

posted a map with the countries where our wells will be located in the hallway behind the choir.

Christmas Stockings – Love Circle will be making Christmas stockings for the ASAP Veterans this year. If you are out

shopping and see some Christmas material that would work well for stockings, please pick some up for them. Bobbie Johnson

(843-280-9242) can give you more information. Thanks to the Love Circle for doing this for our ASAP Veterans.

Mobile Meals – Trinity delivers for a week (5 days) every 8 or 9 weeks. The next dates are August 8-12. Marie Cary

(843-399-2968) has been leading this mission for TUMC and is looking for a replacement. If you might be interested,

please contact Marie. Also, Mobile Meals is looking for additional drivers. You will be trained. If interested, please

contact Marie.

North Strand Helping Hand (NSHH) – Peanut Butter and jelly (especially jelly) are needed by both ASAP and NSHH.

Please pick some up when you go shopping. ASAP will use what they need, and the remainder will go to NSHH.

These items are always needed by both NSHH and ASAP.

Socks for the homeless - In September I will be asking for socks for the homeless. I will be taking them to Eastern

Carolina Homeless Organization for distribution in early October. Please think about how it feels to put on a pair of dry socks

when your feet have gotten wet. Last year you generously donated 950 pair. Let’s see if we can’t reach 1000 pair this

year.

Flocking – Want to surprise a neighbor or loved one? Have them flocked. Betty and I were flocked, and it was

amazing. So many neighbors asked about it, and we were able to talk about our Church and the mission work that is supported

by flocking. If you would like to flock someone, contact Jeannie Reeder or Carol Adams.

Thanks for all that YOU do to support the mission projects of our Church.

If you have any questions about what your Missions’ Committee is doing or would like to help, please contact Frank Autry

(843-685-1190). You are also welcome to attend a committee meeting on the third Monday of each month at 9:00 am in the

A.G. Greene building.

OUR GIFT OF LIVING WATER

The Missions Committee of Trinity United Methodist Church sincerely thanks you for your prayers & financial

contributions in support of our water well project. We also thank the tremendous work of Widow’s Mite Experience, Inc. &

the leadership of Janet Brown, President & Founder, for her guidance in our endeavor. Janet says that while other churches

have contributed more wells over a period of years, Trinity UMC holds the record for the most wells dug at one time!

Your response was overwhelming & far exceeded our expectations. The giving & caring nature of TUMC is a true

example of Christian love. We thank God for the opportunity He has given us to help His people. We are grateful that God’s

Holy Spirit touched so many hearts to help others in need, especially the children. We have been blessed by our giving & in

turn will bless many others.

We remind you that each completed well will be dedicated in a small ceremony with the local population where our church

will be recognized. A plague will be inscribed with our name & a water related Scripture verse. We will be receiving pictures

of the dedication to share with everyone. We look forward to that! We will have to be patient. Janet says the process will take 6

months to a year for completion. Some countries are more difficult to dig the wells than others. Our 5 countries are Peru, India,

Cost Rica, Guatemala, and `the Philippines.

Please remember that the wells dug using our funds will accomplish 3 important things. First, fresh, clean water for the

local population will save many physical lives. Second, Widow’s Mite will provide education to the local population about

healthy living habits such as the necessity of hand washing & regular bathing. While we take these activities for granted, they

are not the norm in water starved villages. The local population will also be taught technical measures for maintaining the

wells.

Finally, Widow’s Mite will share the Good News of Jesus Christ so the recipients begin to understand spiritual salvation

through our Lord & the loving nature of Christians around the world. The water they receive from the wells will indeed be

“living water for their souls”, giving them hope for their future, & changing their lives for the glory of Jesus Christ.

SECURITY AT TRINITY As you know, Trinity has a security system that includes door and window contacts and motion detectors.

We all need to do our part in securing the church when the last person leaves.

We have someone who checks Trinity each night to make sure it is secure, but he has found that on several

occasions it has not been properly secured for the night.

The six doors into the church need to be closed and locked. The windows need to be closed, and the lights

should all be turned off before the alarm is set. The church should to be checked to make sure he/she are the last

to leave, and then the alarm should be set as that last person leaves. We cannot leave someone in the church who

does not have the code to set the alarm.

When you use the code to get in the back door, you should also have the code for the alarm. If you don’t have

this code, the alarm will go off and the police will come, so please use the doorbell. If there is someone in the

church, we will answer the bell and let you in.
