SCHOOL NEWS

ATTENDANCE Attendance is very important to ensure students reach their full potential, and at Trinity we monitor attendance very closely. Parents and students are reminded that the school starts promptly 8.45am each morning. All students arriving after this time without a valid reason will be subject to detention. WATER BOTTLES Could we please remind students that only water bottles are allowed into school. Fizzy drinks are not permitted and will be confiscated. UNIFORM Please make sure that all students come to school wearing the correct uniform. If you are unsure as to the requirements, these are available on the school website. In particular, I wish to draw your attention to the rules surrounding jewellery. Only one stud earring is permitted in the lobe of each ear and nothing else. WORLD CHALLENGE 80 Days and counting………. It doesn’t seem that long ago that nine of our students started to plan their own trip to Southern Tanzania in Africa. They will be trekking across some of the most challenging environments for four weeks in July and August. In order to help us prepare more for this trip we are trying to raise as much money as possible and you can all help. Whenever you or your parents shop online, please do this through www.easyfundraising.org.uk and support our cause - Trinity Tanzania 2016. Every time you buy something online our team will receive a donation towards their fundraising. Every small donation helps. If you are booking your summer holidays in the next few weeks, please use this site as we can get donations upwards of £70 from the travel company.

Thank you for your support - The World Challenge Team

HISTORY TRIP TO THE WW1 BATTLEFIELDS AND TRENCHES IN BELGIUM Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk through a World War One trench or stand upon no man’s land to look at the specific battlefields of World War One? If your answer is yes to either of these questions then this will be a trip that you do not want to miss. Every year the History Department run a trip the trenches and battlefields of World War One which is open to all year groups (Year 9 to Year 13). It is a perfect opportunity for you to see history in the flesh and expand your knowledge on a topic that will be in your GCSE’s in Year 10. The trip also allows you to see some of the memorials that have been laid to pay respect to soldiers, from all sides of the war, and it may be a chance for those who had relatives that died in the war to find their particular name stone. If there is chance, there will hopefully be some free time which will allow you to take in some shopping or a chance to have a look around the beautiful town of Ypres. The cost of the trip will be £250 and will include breakfast, lunch and dinner (drinks included), transportation, accommodation and entry fees into all the historical sites that we attend. If you are interested in the trip, please let Mr Phillips (Room 29) or Mr Brooks (Room 31) know, so they can place your name on the reserve list. It is recommended that you do this as soon as possible as places tend to fill fast and this will help avoid any disappointment. SILVER AND GOLD PRACTICE EXPEDITIONS The Trinity High School Duke of Edinburgh Expedition season has official started and, as always, with wet and cold weather. Students in Year 11 (Silver) and Year 12 (Gold), with six members of staff, headed up to the Peak District for three days walking and camping. The conditions were miserable for the first two days, but despite this students stayed in good spirits and arrived at camp each night with more determination to continue on the next day. The staff had problems of their own when the minibus got stuck in some extremely muddy ground, thank goodness for farmers and their 4x4’s. Congratulations to all students involved and a huge thank you to the staff for giving up their time to support. Fingers crossed for better weather on the Bronze Practice. Duke of Edinburgh dates for your diary: Bronze Practice (Malvern) Thurs 21st – Sat 23rd April Bronze Assessed (Wenlock Edge) Sun 26th – Tues 28th June Silver Assessed (Long Mynd) Tues 28th June – Fri 1st July Gold Assessed (North Wales) Sat 16th – Thurs 21st July ART PIECE OF THE WEEK This week’s Art Piece of the Week comes a day after the Fine Art GCSE and a few days ahead of the 3D Art exams for GCSE and A2. Our featured piece, painted by GCSE student Leah, shows an incredibly successful end to the Fine Art course. Before she began painting, Leah organised her own photo shoot and then chose to edit the outcomes in Photoshop in order to better resemble the artists she had researched. We would like to congratulate all of our Fine Art students for their hard work this week and wish all of our 3D students the best of luck ahead of their exams. Exam Dates for the diary: 3D Art 22nd-26th April In the run up to the exams we are keen to remind all students that art club operates Monday to Thursday from 3.05pm until 4.05pm. We encourage all students to attend catch-up at least once a week to ensure they are suitably prepared for their assessment.

“Running is great, though of course it’s tough. It’s supposed to be tough, if it were easy

everyone would do it. Tough is what makes it great”

Run report:

The Trinity Mile’s inaugural run took place on a still, calm Tuesday morning. Runners started arriving early which allayed our fears that no one would show up. Out on the course the ground was still damp with spring morning dew and after recent heavy rain the field was soft underfoot. However this did not deter the 35 students and staff who turned out and ran brilliantly. As the time went on more and more of the school came out to support and by the end the cheers that greeted the weary runners at the finish line could be heard all over school! A huge congratulations to everyone who ran and a big thank you to all the volunteers. Anyone can join in so see you all (and hopefully some new runners) next week!
