Battle of Caporetto
● The Battle of Caporetto took place in 1917 from October 24 - November 12
● Countries Involved were Austria-Hungary, Italy, German Empire
● Took place in Caporetto, Austria-Hungary (Present Day Solvenia)
● Also known as the Battle of Karfreit by the Central Powers
Battle of Caporetto
● The attack on Italy was delayed for two days because of bad weather
● On October 24, 1917 when the Central Powers started their attack on Italy, they smothered the valley with poisonous gas. Luckily the Italian soldiers had gas masks, but that would only protect them from the gas for two hours or less. So all the soldiers fled and 500-600 soldiers were still killed...

Then later on that night they attacked the Italian side again and peppered them with mortar fire. The Central Powers didn’t stop there. After that they opened fire on the Italians with 2200 pieces of artillery and detonated two large mines under the Italians strong points bordering the valley. And the Central Powers gained access into the Italian side.
The Aftermath
● At the end of the battle the central powers had won● 10,000 Italian soldiers were killed, 30,000 were
wounded, and 265,000 were captured● 70,000 soldiers from the central powers were killed
and wounded● This battle was one of the most decisive battles of
World War I because even though the Italians had 50,000 more soldiers than the Central Powers they still had more artillery and more of a game plan. And therefore the Italians had major losses in equipment...

● It was a secret pact between the Triple Entente (Russia,England, France) and Italy.
● Took place 26 of April, 1915.● Italy was willing to switch side from the
Triple alliance to the Triple Entente.
Continued...Italy was desperate for land since their loss against Ethiopia.They were guaranteed land if Italy won the war with the Triple Entente against Germany and Austria-Hungary.
Results
● Italy won the war with the Triple Entre against Germany and Austria-Hungary.
● Since this was a secret pact Italy did not get the lands they were promised.
● This caused the Italians to hate the Triple Entente.
Why it leaded to war
● Italy was angry over the fact the they didn't get anything from the war against Germany and Austria-Hungary. For that reason they switched sides and fought with Germany and Austria-hungary during WW2.
