Overview of story-

The witching hour is said to be a time of day where supernatural creatures are at their most powerful. Our story is based on this time: Three am, where paranormal activity starts to occur with no control. “Amy”, a young girl, is effected by these happenings badly and calls for help, but when she is taken by the ‘thing’ and nobody can help she runs out of places to hide from the terror. She decides she is the only person who can put a stop to the horror of three am, and searches for ways so she can finally put the supernatural to rest.

Outline of opening horror sequence

Beginning – slow zoom in of clock. Cross cut edits to different clocks in the town (e.g. wall clock, digital timer clock, clock on church). They are all at 2:59. Sound perspective of loud clock ticking is used. The time then turns to 3am.

Middle – Scary things start to occur in “Amy’s” house while she is in bed. The camera shows her waking up as she always naturally wakes up at this time of a night. Books fall off the bookshelf and candles light up and go out again. Everywhere is dark. The camera then goes to the staircase where we get a last second view of a shadow which has been moving slowly up the stairs.

End – the camera is now shown as the eyes of the ‘thing’. We see its hand grasp onto the door knob of ‘Amy’s’ bedroom. Cross cuts to ‘Amy’ and to outside the bedroom door are used to see ‘Amy’s’ terrified facial expressions – she knows what is about to happen. The thing is now in her room and at her presence and gets closer and closer to her. The thing reaches out towards her and ‘Amy’ screams. End of sequence.

Sypnosis

‘Amy’ is a young girl who lives with her parents. She has always had the same repeated nightmares for as long as she can remember, and regularly suffers from

lack of sleep and insomnia. When she is finally old enough, she realises that what she thinks she has been dreaming about for the last 16 years is not made up.

Every night she wakes up at precisely three am, when she is awoken by a ticking clock noise. After this point, things start to get stranger and more scary. Things fall off shelves and mysterious sounds start to play around her house, and sometimes she has experienced ‘things’ talking to her of which she cannot see. An inexplicable character then comes into her room every night and stands in her room for a while, gets out a piece of paper and a pen and jots some things down on it, until it finally disappears and everything goes back to normal and the tension calms down again.

Until one night, the same happens again, however this time the ‘thing’ does not get out its piece of paper and pen. Instead, it reaches for ‘Amy’ and takes her to a unknown location where there is little chance of escape.

‘Amy’ then decides she has to put an end to the witching hour and searches for a way to get back to the living world. Will she get back safe with no evidence of anymore nightmares or will she live an eternal life of horror?

Amy will wear simple pajamas as she is in the process of sleeping in the sequence

The ‘man’ will wear all black clothing. The look we are aiming to give the ‘man’ is this:

(inspired by ‘Slender Man’, a character said to be seen in the presence of children missing for no apparent reason)

Locations

The main location we would like to use would be in an average house filmed in the dark. For one of our cross cut edits during the clock part of our sequence, we may also choose to film in the town to focus on one of the churches for its big clock.
