QTA TRANSPORTER NEWS BRIEF Volume 36, Issue 37 October 2016 Page 2

QTA President Ben Almond’s Dinner Address

Strong industry support was shown for the Awards Night with over 70 trucking companies and industry suppliers represented, along with Mr Linus Power MP for Logan representing Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports and Member for Yeerongpilly, Hon. Mark Bailey MP. Mr Matt McEachan MP, Shadow Assistant Minister to the Leader of the Opposition and Member for Redlands representing Shadow Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mr Andrew Powell MP also attended the evening. We also welcomed Senator The Honourable Matthew Canavan, The Nationals and Minister for Resources and Northern Australia and Senator Murray Watt, Labor Senator for Queensland. Mr Almond also acknowledged the many members of the Senior Executive in attendance on the night from the Department of Transport & Main Roads, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland. On behalf of the QTA Board of Directors, Mr Almond publicly acknowledged the significant support of our Platinum and Silver Partners. Mr Almond urged all our members and operators within our industry to seek out the services of these companies and support them just as they support us.

Mr Almond shared the Associations views for the need for wider adoption and utilisation of High Productivity Vehicles. When the Transport and Logistics sector contributes nearly 9 percent of GDP it is fundamental that productivity be embraced and strongly encouraged by Government. To do that we need clear and consistent decision making delivered in a timely and cost effective way. We as an industry must remain vigilant and agile to survive in a competitive market. We need a decision making regime from Government that reflects similar agility to keep pace with the demands of global competition.

New generation combinations are our future along with the freight networks necessary to ensure we are growing the most productive supply chain possible, in a relatively lightly populated but highly decentralised state it is imperative.

Mr Almond also made mention of the importance of our Employment Law Service, in particular workplace relations and workplace health and safety as key activities of the QTA, and through our entity the Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation (ARTIO), the QTA continues to take a lead role at a national level in developing responses to a range of applications before the Fair Work Commission.

The QTA is continuing its long history of involvement in representing the industry’s views to the Department of Education and Training on skill needs and skill development.

The QTA is continuing to deliver Qld Government contract for a VET Industry Engagement Program for the Transport and Logistics industry. A very successful initiative delivering great results for our industry and is appreciated by all the participants and we are very pleased to have had a continuing partnership with the Department of Education and Training.

Mr Almond thanked his fellow Directors for their support. “I am immensely proud to lead the Queensland Trucking Association as President and Chairman of the Board. I wish to acknowledge the very considerable support I receive and the contribution made by my Vice-President, Julie Russell. We have a shared focus on delivering on our Strategic Plan. Our Treasurer, Mark Webb has been instrumental over a number of years in developing a sound financial base.” said Mr Almond.

The Association will continue to consult with and consider the needs of all operators across Queensland, delivering the freight task in its many forms, as we represent our industry to Government.

Mr Almond offered sincere Congratulations to all who have been judged to be examples of excellence in our industry by the awarding of special recognition in their particular award category.

Finally Mr Almond thanked the QTA’s small but dedicated staff for their contribution to the activities and services offered to our membership, under the guidance of Gary Mahon, QTA CEO.

New Silver Sponsor – Personalised Plates Queensland

When you think about it, you’ve been telling the world who you are ever since

you were born. From the little wrist strap as a baby, to your name on

schoolbooks, stuck on your bedroom door or inscribed on a sports trophy.

Each and every thing has said something about you, and personalised plates are just another way of telling part of your

story. A plate celebrates what’s important to you, from the smallest moments to the biggest milestones, and says

‘here’s to you’ like nothing else can.

Personalised Plates Queensland (PPQ) works with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to bring you our range

of distinct number plates. And what’s good to know is sales proceeds helps support road safety in Queensland. We’re

passionate about plates and have a genuine interest in creating a plate just right for you.

“The plates are excellent value for money. Advertising is transient, if it's in the newspaper it only lasts a day, in a

magazine a month but it sits unseen on a coffee table somewhere. Plates on the other hand are a one off investment

that lasts for life.” – CPR Group

As far as fleet management benefits, these include the consistent branding of individual vehicles within the fleet, a

professional identifier of each company vehicle, and the availability of bulk discounts for large quantity orders.
