Some example of prohibited items include oil, poisons, building materials like paint, timber, plaster or steel, wire, hot ash or landscaping items like pavers and rocks.

What can go in my green waste bin? Garden items only (no food scraps). Raw timber and small logs to be no larger than 10cm x 50cm.

What CAN I recycle?

Unbroken glass bottles/jars (lids and caps removed)

Aluminium cans and clean foil trays

Steel cans including empty aerosol, empty or dried paint tins and clean pet food cans

Cleaned cartons

Cleaned plastic containers with the triangle symbol 1-7

Empty pizza boxes

Clean cardboard (boxes to be flattened or torn into pieces and slid down the sides of the bin)

Clean newspaper, junk mail and office paper

The above items are the main materials that will be accepted by council’s Tasmanian contracted recycling materials facility.

Do not put recycling items in plastic bags or tie in bundles.

Annual Hard WasteInformation regarding the Clarence City Council hard waste collection will be communicated during August via council’s Facebook, website and through the Eastern Shore Sun newspaper.

The Clarence residential waste collection service provides a weekly refuse collection, fortnightly recycling collection, and a four-weekly green waste collection for urban areas and rural villages.

Public holidays: Collections are as normal on all public holidays except Christmas Day.

Bin placement: Leave your bins out 1m apart with lids closed prior to 6.00am on collection day at the road verge, at least 2m away from any vehicles.

Non-collection of bin: This could be due to a number of factors, such as the bin being overfilled, overweight (for community safety, trucks are limited to 80kg for residential waste and recycling and 110kg for green waste bins), contaminated, road works, cars parked in front of the bin, items stuck in the bin or the bin may have simply been missed. Where the bin is not presented correctly a bright coloured sticker with the issue will be attached to the bin. Please call us on 03 6217 9500 to discuss this matter.

Bin upsize or downgrade: Property owners can request a bigger or smaller bin from council (fees apply). If you are renting, you will need to ask your landlord or real estate agent to contact us and give permission as fees/rebates may apply, which will be adjusted to the property rates.

Bin maintenance and replacement: We offer a free bin repair service for broken bin lids, wheels and pins, and we replace bins if they have a broken body, have been burnt, stolen or dropped into the collection truck.

What can go in my waste bin? Everyday household rubbish. A few examples are: food scraps, nappies, bird seed, cat litter or any packaging or containers not listed on the recyclable list.

All loose rubbish, polystyrene, foam and bean bag beans are to be bagged.
