Market Overview: Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country. The overall
country electrification rate is around 45%. In Nigeria, a
majority of companies rely on diesel generators for
their electricity supply. Of the total energy consumed
by Nigerian industries only 4% is from grid-connected
electricity. 96% is self-produced electricity. About 86%
of the businesses in Nigeria own or share a generator.
Market Potential Estimates suggest that between 8 and 14 GW of
decentralised diesel generator capacity is currently
installed in the country. Here, solar energy can help to
reduce dependency on fuel while improving
companies’ profitability. The agri-food sector,
especially the processing of rice, cassava, and palm oil,
also has a great potential for renewable captive
bioenergy technologies.
Nigeria’s manufacturing sector is one of the major
driving forces behind the country’s economic growth.
The sector’s competitiveness is influenced by high
energy costs due to the extensive utilisation of diesel
and gas generators. The adoption of renewable energy
technologies within this industry has the potential to
increase the sector’s competitivity .
The Trade Mission The trade mission will consist of up to 15 European
companies interested in the Nigerian market.
The RECP trade missions aim to stimulate the market
for renewable energy in Africa by encouraging and
supporting private sector engagement. More
specifically, the missions will create opportunities for
African and European private sector cooperation to
develop businesses, acquire know-how and support
technology transfer by engaging private sector
companies as well as business associations on both
continents.
Participation is free of charge, however participants
are expected to organise their travel themselves and
to bear their travel expenses including but not limited
to, visa, air ticket, accommodation, etc.
