ACS FACILITY UPDATES Building 7492, located at 1481 Titus Blvd. and formerly known as the Soldier and Family Assistance Center is now the Army Community Service - Annex. The Family Nurturing Center and Soldier and Family Assistance Center will continue to operate out of the newly named building. All services previously offered at the Community Connection, building 1524, are now permanently located at The ACS Center, building 1526. Visit the ACS Center for all Relocation Assistance, clearing, Multicultural Program, Computer Lab, Outreach and Immigration needs.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT CLASS The Directorate of Public Works (DPW) offers a two-day Facility Management Class for military and civilian facility managers to help them understand their building responsibilities. Class information is geared toward facility managers who are noncommissioned officers, or equivalent civilians, authorized to make decisions and manage facility concerns within their assigned buildings. Units ensuring facility managers are assigned to barracks is especially critical to addressing building issues quickly. The class instruction includes all aspects of facility management, including placing service orders for maintenance and repairs, energy conservation, recycling and how to processes work requests for new projects. The class is offered once a month Tuesday-Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in building 1219 on third floor in the Sunlight Conference Room on the following dates: March 10-11, April 14-15, May 12-13. June 9-10, July 14-15 and Aug. 11-12. For information about Facility Management Class, call the DPW at 526-4320 or email [email protected]. To register for the training, units and organizations can contact the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security Individual Military Training Office by e-mailing [email protected].

POW MENTORSHIP RANGE A 4th Infantry Division privately owned weapons (POW) mentorship range is scheduled for March 6 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.at Range 1 for Soldiers and Family members 10 and older. The event features training with subject matter experts and local law enforcement, discounted ammunition and on-site weapons registration. Unit designated times are 10-11:30 a.m., 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team and 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team;11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team and 4th Combat Aviation Brigade; 1-2:30 p.m., 4th Sustainment Brigade, Division Artillery, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion and 4th Infantry Division Soldiers unable to make allotted times above. Unregistered weapons must be registered on site.

OPERATOR ASC BRIEFING The Fort Bragg Special Mission Unit (SMU) is currently accepting applications for the fall 2020 Operator Assessment and Selection Course (ASC). All military occupational specialties (MOS) are encouraged to apply because of the extremely diverse capabilities and requirements of this unit. This organization is designed to conduct missions requiring both rapid response and surgical application of unique special operations skills. It is also currently accepting applications for combat support or combat service support positions in various MOSes. The SMU is actively seeking talented officers and NCOs who are adaptable, intelligent and tenacious. Interested Soldiers need to be in the ranks of sergeant thru master sergeant, have at least three years’ time in service, be 22 years of age or older, and have a GT score of 110 or higher. Officers must be branch qualified in the ranks of captain or major and have completed their O-3 key developmental assignment. If interested in a new career opportunity at the forefront of military operations, attend the briefing April 1 at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. at the Directorate of Public Works, building 1219, room 325A. Soldiers interested in applying for the Operator ASC will have an opportunity to complete the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) and IQ test required for their application. The uniform for the APFT is appropriate civilian physical fitness attire.

IQ testing will take place after the APFT, and should be complete by 2 p.m. Operator applicants will meet at McKibben Physical Fitness Center running track at 7 a.m. April 2.

CBP HIRING U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring. POLLUTION PREVENTION The quarterly Pollution Prevention (P2) Times newsletter is prepared in an effort to communicate critical information to Soldiers and civilians that can assist in achieving short- and long-term environmental compliance and energy, water and waste goals. The March newsletter features an article about the Environmental Protection Officer training offered by the Directorate of Public Works (DPW). GATE OPERATIONS -- Effective Monday, Feb. 24, new hours of operation for Gate 2 will be Monday-Friday from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. for inbound and outbound traffic. The gate will be closed on federal and training holidays.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION EXCHANGE The next CIE will be held on March 18, 2020 and the theme will be Preparing for PCS Season AND Summer Camp. Everyone is always welcome to attend the CIEs which are held at the Elkhorn Conference Center, building 7300, 1725 Woodfill Road. Representatives from various organizations share information and take questions during the CIE. GI BILL TRANSFER UPDATE The scheduled policy change for eligibility to transfer Post-9/11 GI Bill Education Benefits has been cancelled. To be eligible to transfer to Family members, service members must have six years' time in service and must serve an additional four-year service obligation from the date of transfer. Soldiers still serving who received a Purple Heart on or after Sept. 11, 2001, can submit a transfer of education benefits request regardless of years served or years of retainability. The Education Center staff encourages service members considering transferring GI Bill benefits to Family members to do so sooner, rather than later. Service members can take back any unused benefits. Transfer application is available at www.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect.

TAX CENTER TO OPEN Tax return filing season is here again and the Fort Carson Office of the Staff Judge Advocate has signaled its arrival by reopening the Fort Carson Tax Center. Beginning Jan. 31, tax filers can call 524-1013 to make appointments for the week of Feb. 1 through the remainder of tax season. Free income tax preparation services for both state and federal returns are available to all active-duty service members, retirees and Family members, as well as mobilized reservists (with orders).

BARKELEY AVENUE WATER LINE REPAIR PROJECT JANUARY-MARCH Barkeley Avenue water line repair project January-March- A water line repair project scheduled for January through March will impact traffic flow and require temporary building water outages in the area. --Traffic impacts during the water line repair project: The water line repair project will require closing the left/east lane of Barkeley Avenue between Hogan Street and Titus Boulevard Jan. 27 to March 31. Adverse weather may delay project completion and updates will be published. --Building occupant impacts during the water line repair project: As part of the water line repair project, periodic water outages will be necessary for buildings in the 1900, 2000, 2100, 2200 and 2300 blocks of the “Banana Belt” area between Hogan Street and Titus Boulevard toward the end of February/beginning of March. The water outages will be

scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the workweek. Building occupants in impacted buildings will be notified of exact dates for the water outages in advance. POST SHUTTLE EXTENDED HOURS The post shuttle service operates seven days a week and is free to military, DOD personnel and Family members. The shuttle has four designated routes (North, South, Upper Warfighter and Lower Warfighter) that circulate Fort Carson. TRUSTED TRAVELER PROGRAM Fort Carson is suspending the Trusted Traveler program at all installation gates for an undetermined amount of time. All vehicle occupants will be required to show identification. If there is a DOD identification card holder in the vehicle, all other vehicle occupants over the age of 18 must show a state or federally issued photo identification card to access Fort Carson. Long term installation passes that have already been issued to non DOD ID card holders will be honored at the gates. Personnel should allow extra time to get through the gates.

MILITARY FAMILY LIFE COUNSELORS

Adult Military Family Life Counselors (MFLC) provide non-medical short term, situational problem-solving counseling to Service Members and their Families. Services can be provided on or off the installation and can be for individuals, couples, families and groups. They provide counseling in the following areas:

Life Skills Military Lifestyle

Anger Management Deployment Stress

Communication Coping Skills

Relationship Issues Relocation Adjustment

Productivity at Work Sadness, grief and loss

Conflict Resolution Homesickness

Parenting Separation

Decision-making skills Building Resiliency

Reintegration: warrior to citizen
