OTTAWA – According to statistics released recently by The Canadian Real Estate Association (Crea), national home sales recorded a second consecu- tive month-over-month increase in February 2016. Highlights: " National home sales rose by 0.8% from January to February. " Actual (not seasonally adjusted) activity was up 18.7% compared to Febru- ary 2015. " The number of newly listed homes edged up by 0.5% from January to February. " The Canadian housing market has tightened but remains balanced overall. " The MLS® Home Price Index (HPI) rose 8.5% year-over-year in February. " The national average sale price rose 16.4% on a year-over-year basis in February; excluding British Columbia and Ontario, it declined by 1.4%. The number of homes trading hands via Canadian MLS® Systems rose by 0.8 percent in February 2016 compared to January. The monthly increase lifted national sales activity to the highest level since June 2007. A greater number of local housing markets posted a monthly decline in sales activity than posted a monthly increase; however, the latter accounted for a larger share of national transactions. The Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Okanagan Region and Fraser Valley made the largest contribution to the monthly in- crease in national sales activity, offsetting monthly sales declines in Edmonton, Greater Moncton and Montreal. "Two of Canada's hottest housing markets look set to stay that way heading into the spring home buying season," said CREA President Pauline Aunger. "Meanwhile, other major urban markets elsewhere in Canada are well balanced or have ample supply. All real estate is local, and REALTORS®remain your best source for information about sales and listings where you live or might like to in the future." Actual (not seasonally adjusted) sales activity rose 18.7 percent on a year-over-year basis in February 2016, standing 12.7 percent above the 10-year average for the month. Activity increased above year-ago levels in February in about three-quarters of all local markets. B.C.'s Lower Mainland, the GTA and Montreal contributed most to the year-over-year increase in national activity. TORONTO - The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 sedan has received the green light for sales in North America, signaling an expansion of the company's subcompact line up. The distinctively-styled G4 sedan, based on the popular Mirage hatchback, made its official debut at the Canadian International Auto Show today and goes on sale this spring. Mirage G4 was introduced by company vice president, Sales and Marketing, Tony Laframboise with the help of players and cheerlead- ers from the Toronto Rock, six-time past champions of the National Lacrosse League. He noted Mirage G4 is the first of two new models that will arrive in Mitsubishi Motors dealer showrooms this year. The Mitsubishi Out- lander PHEV - the world's first twin-motor, plug-in hybrid electric compact sport utility - will be available across Canada this fall. Add to this the just-announced makeovers of Mitsubishi Lancer, RVR and Mirage hatchback models, along with a nearly new Outlander launched last summer, and the company's renewed product momen- tum continues for 2016. "Mitsubishi Motors is laying the foundation for continued growth in Canada. Our recent unprecedented wave of new or rejuvenated products underscores a commitment to our cus- tomers and our dealerships," said Laframboise. Back in 2013, the arrival of Mirage hatchback offered top fuel economy, a superb entry-level price and the industry's best warranty. The 2017 Mirage G4, and its refreshed 2017 Mirage hatchback sibling, adds a fourth buying proposition: Mitsubishi Motors' new in-car display au- dio works with smartphones via Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay which are unexpected and rare features for entry-level models. "Our expanded Mirage line up improves upon an already compelling value proposition for subcompact customers in Canada. You would be hard pressed to find Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay in premium vehicles, yet they're standard on SEL price lines of the 2017 Mirage G4 and Mirage hatchback," he added. Gillette Fusion Proshieldprovides double lubrication

for a much better shaveBY PRASHANTH

According to research, quoted by Gillette, on average men take around 170 strokes with the razorwhen they shave, 120 of them are from shaving on the same area repeatedly. This is a regularhabit for most men who shave, but they don’t really know about it.I recently got the new Gillette Fusion Proshield razor that the company just launched in Canada.I normally use a different brand and thought this would be a good oppor tunity to see how differentGillette really was. I noticed that with this razor, the blade could move on the handle whichGillette calls FlexBall technology that allowed the blade to keep maximum contact with the faceto enable closest possible shave. However, the newest feature in Gillette Fusion Proshield is thatit provides lubrication to the face both before and after the blades, apparently meant to shield theface from irritation and redness re-gardless of the number of strokes youtake while shaving. A Gillette ex-ecutive was quoted saying that theidea behind this was for Gillette tocreate a blade that helped protectguys from skin irritation from shav-ing instead of trying to change theirshaving habits. So I tried the new razor for the firsttime over the weekend. After ap-plying some shave gel to the face,I star ted shaving. Even af ter theshave gel was wiped off, I kept onshaving without applying any moregel, which is what I usually do. WithFusion Proshield, however, I couldfeel the lubrication on my skin evenwithout the gel. And though I tookquite a few strokes, I didn’t feel asmuch irritation as I usually do withmy regular razor. It was quite amazing and the shave felt much better and smoother.I will try this new razor a few more times while I’m thinking about switching from my regularbrand. The difference is huge, so I’m not sure I’ll enjoy shaving as much with the old razor as I didwith this one. Somehow, Gillette Fusion Proshield seems to shave even tough stubble quite well, giving a cleaner shave. Looks like I’ll have to dispose my old razor soon.

GILLETTE LAUNCHES NEW FUSION PROSHIELD™WITH LUBRICATION BEFORE AND AFTER THE BLADES

TO SHIELD AGAINST IRRITATIONSTUDY SHOWS MOST GUYS WHO SHAVE TAKE ABOUT 170 STROKES WITH THEIR RAZOR WHICH

CAUSES IRRITATION. FOR ULTIMATE CLOSENESS AND COMFORT, GILLETTE HAS CHANGED ITS BLADECARTRIDGES SO GUYS DON’T HAVE TO CHANGE THE WAY THEY SHAVE.

According to recent studies, most guys take about 170 strokes every time they shave, and 120 of them are re-strokes over the same area of the face after the initial strokes have wiped away

most of the protective shave gel. Despite all of the ad-vances in blade technology, many guys still experiencesome irritation, largely due to these re-strokes. Instead ofexpecting guys to change how they shave, GilletteR has madeits best cartridge even better to shield guys from irritation. Thenew Gillette FusionR ProShield. with lubrication before and afterthe blades shields against irritation during every shave ¡V nomatter how many strokes he takes.Guys have many habits that get them looking their best. But they often do these and other typical activities through-out the day involuntarily. Some guys may puff up theirchest when feeling provoked, stroking their facial hair whenthinking, sucking in their belly when seeing an attractiveperson and taking a surprising number of strokes everytime they shave. When it comes to shaving, guys re-stroke over the samearea, wiping away the shave gel. Shaving over the samespot without lubrication can cause skin irritation, rednessand bumps that keep guys from looking and feeling theirbest. That¡¦s why Gillette developed Fusion ProShield, engi-neered to shield against irritation, with new lubrication beforethe blades in addition to the Lubrastrip after the blades, while stilldelivering incredible closeness.¡§With the latest razor technology, excessive re-strokingisn¡¦t necessary for a close shave, but old habits are hardto break,¡¨ said Stew Taub, Director of Shave Care R&D atGillette. ¡§At Gillette, we constantly look for solutions tohelp improve the shave for guys, and that is why we areintroducing Fusion ProShield with lubrication before andafter the blades, to help shield from irritation during theshave. We have changed our blade car tridges so guysdon¡¦t need to change the way they shave.¡¨

Domestic violence ups preterm birth, low birth weight riskNEW YORK, (IANS) Domesticviolence by husband or ex-hus-band during pregnancy increasesthe risk of preterm bir th, low bir thweight (less than 2.5 kg) andsmall-for-gestational-age babies, finds a study. According to re-

searchers, domestic violence bya par tner or ex-partner can directlyaffect the growing foetus, through physi-cal or sexual trauma or indirectly due toincreased maternal stress, inadequatenutrition and poor prenatal care."Domestic violence by a par tner

or ex-par tner is of particular con-cern during pregnancy when notone, but two lives are at risk," saidlead study author Audrey Saftlasfrom University of Iowa."Although rates of domestic vio-lence differ across the world, the

detrimental effects of abuse onpregnant women are very clearand we must continue to estab-lish effective interventions glo-bally in order to prevent violenceand to suppor t women who re-por t abuse," explained Saftlas inthe paper published in BJOG: AnInternational Journal of Obstetrics andGynaecology (BJOG).Domestic violence includes physi-cal, sexual, financial, psychologicalor emotional abuse. The teamanalysed 50 studies into the effectsof domestic violence by a partner orex-partner on risk of preterm birth, low birth weight (less than 2500g)and small-for-gestational-age ba-bies. The combined results evalu-ated more than five million womenfrom 17 countries, 15,000 of whomhad experienced domestic violence. The findings showed that domesticviolence doubled the risk of pretermbirth and low birth weight. This riskwas increased fur ther for womenwho experienced two or more typesof domestic violence during theirpregnancy.

ANTI-DEPRESSANTS LINKEDTO TOOTH IMPLANT FAILURENEW YORK, (IANS) Anti-depressants which are commonlyused to treat anxiety, pain and other disorders, can weakenbone growth and may play a role in dental implant failure, says a study. A team of US researchers found that the use ofanti-depressants increased the odds of implant failure by fourtimes. Each year of anti-depressant use doubled the odds offailure. While these drugs are often used to manage mood andemotions, a side effect decreases the regulation of bone me-tabolism which is crucial to the healing process. "For an im-plant to heal properly, new bone must form around it to secureit in place," said lead investigator Sulochana Gurung from theUniversity at Buffalo (UB). Anti-depressant medication mayrelieve depression symptoms and help millions of patientsworldwide."However, their benefits must be weighed with side effects.Patients should cooperate with their physician to reach theright balance," added co-investigator Latifa Bairam. "Four ofthe many known side effects that are repor ted in the literatureare a big concern to us as dentists in regard to oral and bonehealth," Bairam added. After analysing data from the medical char ts of UB DentalClinic patients in 2014, the researchers found that of the fewpatients who experienced implant failures, 33 percent usedanti-depressants. For patients who did not experience fail-ures, only 11 percent used the drug. "We decided that thedental community and the world should be aware of this andthat triggered the preparation of the research," Andreana stated, adding that the difference between 33 percent and 11 percentis quite remarkable and needs fur ther in-depth analysis. Thoseusing anti-depressants should consult with their physicianabout the drug's side effects and alternative methods of man-aging depression, anxiety or pain, the researchers advised. The find-ings are set to be presented at the 45th annual American Association forDental Research conference in Los Angeles on March 19.

WOMEN EXPERIENCE MORENECK PAIN THAN MENNEW YORK, (IANS) Shedding new light on how differentlymen and women experience pain, researchers, including oneof Indian-origin, have found that women are 1.38 times morelikely than men to report neck pain due to cervical degenera-tive disc disease.Cervical degenerative disc disease is a common cause ofneck pain. Symptoms include stiff or inflexible neck, burning, tingling and numbness. Pain is most prevalent when the pa-tient is upright or moving the head. The study by MedaRaghavendra and Joseph Holtman from Loyola UniversityChicago Stritch School of Medicine included 3,337 patientswho were treated at Loyola's Pain Management Centre. The findings were presented at the annual meeting of theAmerican Academy of Pain Medicine in Palm Springs, Cali-fornia, US. The study adds to the growing body of research onthe differences in which men and women experience pain.

HOW TO GET POWER DRESSING RIGHTNEW DELHI, (IANS) A right mix of fit, cut, shade, styling and attitude sums upthe core rules of power dressing, says an expert who feels that with anincreasing number of women becoming an essential part of the corporateworld, it's imperative that they get the look spot on.Resha Jain, Myntra LookGood Advisor, has shared tips:* Colour me classy: The first step to dressing sharp is to choose the rightshade and stay up to date with the colours that are trending. Gone are thedays where basics like black, grey, and white used to be a thing.Experiment with colour whenever you can. Pastels and bright hues likeburgundy, navy and rust can be paired with basic colours to balance youroutfit. On the other hand, colour can also be added in the form of belts, bags,

shoes and other accessories.* Stick to classics: One of the fundamental rules of power dressing is to notfollow trends blindly and stick to classics. For a corporate look, invest inwardrobe staples like a well-tailored blazer, the quintessential nude/blackpumps in patent finish and cigarette pants. This look flatters all body types;and a great attitude is all you need to look your best.* Keep it neat: When it comes to jewellery, less is more. Keeping it classyand elegant is the key to a neat look. Simple jewellery like solitaries andpearls work better than chunky jewellery as they don't overpower your outfit.A neat hairdo, simple danglers, a vibrant scarf and a great watch makes fora perfect and clean look.

EDUCATING TEENAGERS CANLOWER CAFFEINE INTAKETORONTO, (IANS) Educating teenagers about the harmful ef-fects of drinking caffeinated beverages is the only way tocurb heavy consumption and lower potential health risks inthem, finds a study. "By developing more comprehensiveeducational strategies and enhancing policies, it may be pos-sible to decrease caffeine use in adolescents and mitigatethe potential health risks," said senior author Danielle S.Battram from Brescia University College in Ontario, Canada.Caffeine overconsumption and caffeine intoxication have se-rious health effects, even in moderate doses. "With that inmind, we need to correct the misconceptions adolescentshave regarding cer tain aspects of caffeine," Battram addedin the paper published in the Journal of Nutrition Educationand Behavior. For this, the team developed a study to deter-mine attitudes and beliefs as well as factors influencingcaffeinated beverage consumption among adolescents. In astudy of 166 youth (42 per cent male and 72 percent in grades9 and 10), researchers found that nearly half (44.6 per cent)of the respondents drank caffeinated beverages one to sixtimes per week.

HIGH-FAT DIET LINKED TOINCREASED GUT CANCER RISKNEW YORK, (IANS) Obesity and eating fatty food are signifi-cant risk factors for many types of cancer. A new study hasrevealed that a high-fat diet makes the cells of the intestinallining in the gut more likely to become cancerous."We wanted to understand how a long-term high-fat diet influ-ences the biology of stem cells and how such diet-inducedchanges that occur in stem cells impact tumour initiation inthe intestine," said Omer Yilmaz from the MassachusettsInstitute of Technology's (MIT) Koch Institute for IntegrativeCancer. To investigate a possible link between these stem cellsand obesity-linked cancer, researchers fed healthy mice a diet made upof 60 percent fat for nine to 12 months. This diet, according to the scien-tists, is much higher in fat than the typical American diet, which isusually about 20 to 40 per cent fat.
