YORK COLLEGE FURTHER EDUCATION PROSPECTUS 2017/18

FURTHER EDUCATION PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS | This is the fifth Further Education prospectus I have designed and produced for York College. The design needs to be attractive and appealing to school leavers, but at the same time needs to convey a large amount of information. The overall look of the document is consistent with the other College publications.

Luke MansellPreviously of Canon Lee Specialist Arts College Studying A Level Business Studies

Business Studies is challenging and gives us an awareness of the major companies that we use on a day to day basis. I chose York College as it’s in a good location, has great facilities and students achieve high results.

I’ve enjoyed every year that I have been at College as I have always been treated as an adult and respected by tutors who are always there to help. In the future I plan to go to Teesside University to study BA (Hons) Computer Game Design and Development.

YORK COLLEGE HIGHER EDUCATION PROSPECTUS 2017

HIGHER EDUCATION PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS | The Higher Education prospectus needs to be consistent with the Further Education Prospectus but appeal to older students. The design is driven by the content and the need to clearly and easily convey the course information, so I opted for a clean and simple look and used colour to differentiate between subject areas.

York College International Guide20

A-Levels are the traditional entry examinations that enable English students to access Higher Education. York College teaches A-Levels to 1500 local students per year and in recent years has achieved the best results of any General Further Education College in the UK.

Our International A-Level Programme has been developed for overseas students wishing to take part in this success story. International students on this course will study alongside local students and complete A-Level qualifications, usually in three subjects. The course also includes English Language, British Culture and small group tutorials.

The course is ideal for academically able students who are at least 16 years of age and ready to face the challenge of living and studying overseas.

Note that this course can be studied for either one or two years. However university entry can only be achieved after two years.

Students will study three main subjects with British students and an additional study block as an international group:

YORK COLLEGE INTERNATIONAL PROSPECTUS

PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS | York College International Department travel worldwide promoting the courses available at York College. Because of this, they requested their own prospectus which listed all relevant details for those looking to travel to the UK. The team wanted a modern look with splashes of colour throughout, mixed with a slightly more traditional font to try and give a more classical English look to appeal to international readers.

MONTHLY ADVERTISING MAGAZINE | Initially working with another designer, I was responsible for liaising with clients to create attractive and effective advertising for their businesses. After the original Graphic Designer left, I became sole designer for the publication, this meant that as well as designing the adverts, I was also responsible for the creation of the whole magazine from initial design to dealing with the printers.

ARCH GARAGE

BRANDING AND PROMOTION | Whilst initially setting up his garage, the owner (Craig Hugill) came to me asking to come up with a design for a logo and overall branding look for his garage. Arch Garage specialises in repairing and servicing German cars and Craig wanted to reference this within the logo. Merging “Garage” into the word “Arch” helped keep the logo small and compact, as well as giving it a unique and recognisable look.

I designed and produced the company’s business cards, flyers, t-shirts and hoodies and built the website. The website carries on the overall look and style of all other promotional materials. Take a look at www.archgarage.co.uk

CLEANER ENERGY SOLUTIONS

LOGO DESIGN | I made this logo and business card for the company Cleaner Energy Solutions. The client was delighted with my illustrated leaves arranged to look like a flame.

CODEDLIVING

LOGO DESIGN | Dan Oram, the owner of Coded Living, came to me looking for a simple modern design that reflected the digital nature of his business. The only desire was that I incorporated a modern-looking San-serif font and that the overall look had a good contrast so as to stand out. My initial designs provided a result in terms of font and after discussing more with the owner, managed to decide on an icon that could be associated with the company. The logo to the right is the final design that the owner chose and uses.

SCARBOROUGH BREWERY

BRANDING AND PACKAGING | Scarborough Brewery approached me looking to create a new, more modern image for the brewery. Their previous designs had a more traditional look to them and did not reflect the attitude and ethos of the team at the brewery. Instead, they wanted a design with a strong, clean and bold look. I started adding the illustrations to help give each beer its own identity, which was well received by the team and customers alike. The designs are used across pump clips and on beer bottles nationwide.

WEBSITE DESIGN | Along with the logo and promotional materials, I designed and produced the website for Arch Garage. WEBSITE DESIGN | The second iteration of the Whitby Advertiser website I designed and produced. We opted for a more blog-like layout, utilising coding techniques from the previous site and regular content updates to help increase site traffic. Coupled with extra services such as canvas printing (requiring a gallery), this all helped push visitors to the site and ultimately increased the number of views of the digital magazine.
