Skimming is reading for the general idea or the big picture. What is another basic goal of skimming? - saving reading time - This is a skill you are using in everyday life without even realizing it! Your brain has been trained to skim what you are reading. Reading Skill: Skimming When we skim articles or books, we need to be purposeful in our skimming, doing the things that will help us get the general idea or the big picture. (Will the author present positive or negative opinions about McDonalds?) Now, read the introduction paragraph completely and stop.
