Washington and Idaho are two states. Washington is next

to the Pacific, and Idaho doesn’t touch an ocean. They have

different populations. Idaho is shaped like the letter L, but

Washington has a different shape. Both are states. Idaho has a

capital city and so does Washington. They also have similar

geography.

EXAMPLE COMPARE/CONTRAST PARAGRAPHSWashington and Idaho are two different states. Washington is next to

the Pacific whereas Idaho doesn’t touch an ocean. They have different

populations. Washington’s population is bigger than Idaho’s. Idaho is

shaped like the letter L, but Washington has a different shape. It looks kind

of like a fist with a thumb pointing out. In Washington, there are large

cities like Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane. Idaho, on the other hand, has

mostly small towns. Idaho is also covered by a desert in the south, but

Washington does not have a desert. As you can see, Washington and Idaho

are not the same.

Idaho is shaped like the letter L. However, Washington looks kind of like a fist with a thumb pointing out. Both Washington and Idaho are states. They also have capital cities. Washington has mountains, rivers and lakes. Idaho has these physical features as well. As you can see, these two states have some things in common, but they are also different.
