EXAMPLE COMPARE/CONTRAST PARAGRAPHS
Washington and Idaho are two states. Washington is next
to the Pacific, and Idaho doesn’t touch an ocean. They have
different populations. Idaho is shaped like the letter L, but
Washington has a different shape. Both are states. Idaho has a
capital city and so does Washington. They also have similar
geography.
Good Morning!Today is Tuesday, October 27th.
Warm-up:Respond to the following questions:1. What went well in your most recent compare and contrast
paragraph?2. What is one thing you can improve?3. How are you going to make this improvement (what are
your next steps)?4. What is one question you still have about this process?
Computers and research tomorrow!
EXAMPLE COMPARE/CONTRAST PARAGRAPHSWashington and Idaho are two different states. Washington is next to
the Pacific whereas Idaho doesn’t touch an ocean. They have different
populations. Washington’s population is bigger than Idaho’s. Idaho is
shaped like the letter L, but Washington has a different shape. It looks kind
of like a fist with a thumb pointing out. In Washington, there are large
cities like Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane. Idaho, on the other hand, has
mostly small towns. Idaho is also covered by a desert in the south, but
Washington does not have a desert. As you can see, Washington and Idaho
are not the same.
EXAMPLE COMPARE/CONTRAST PARAGRAPHSWashington and Idaho are two states, and they are similar and
different in many ways. Washington is next to the Pacific Ocean; on the other hand, Idaho doesn’t touch an ocean. They have different populations. Washington’s population is bigger than Idaho’s. Idaho is shaped like the letter L. However, Washington looks kind of like a fist with a thumb pointing out. Both Washington and Idaho are states. They also have capital cities. Washington has mountains, rivers and lakes. Idaho has these physical features as well. As you can see, these two states have some things in common, but they are also different.
