Health related quality of life is the subjective experiences or preferences expressed by an individual, or members of a particular group of persons, in
relation to specified aspects of health status that are meaningful, in definable ways, for that individual or group
Several questionnaires have been proposed and adopted to assess QoL
The user is asked to answer to a predefined set of questions about her/his mental and psychological status and feeling
Why
3
Aimed at helping answer basic questions about the state of the user, such aso “is she depressed?”o “has she decreased her activity level?”o “is she more engaged in social
interactions?”

Preliminary results
15
BackHome, the first European research project aimed at delivering the ambitious, but critical, step to bring BNCI systems to mainstream markets
Where
Aimed at producing applied results, developing
o new and better integrated practical electrode systems
o friendlier and more flexible BNCI software
o better telemonitoring and home support tools
16
Further experiments are currently running to assess the effectiveness of the proposed methodology
What’s next?
In November, the system will be installed at BackHome end-users’ homes in Belfast
We are also considering data coming from social activities to assess, apart “Mobility”, also “Mood”
17
Closing remarks
A generic methodology to automatically assess quality of life of disabled people based on sensor-based telemonitoring
Preliminary experiments to assess “Mobility”
Preliminary results with a healthy user showed that the proposed methodology is promising
The work is part of the BackHome EU project
In November, experiments with real end-users will start in Belfast

attention!
