TIZ THE LAW TRIES FORSECOND LEG OF
'QUADRUPLE CROWN'
by Joe Bianca
Following a resounding victory in the GI Belmont S., SackatogaStable and Barclay Tagg could have easily put their star pupil Tiz the Law (Constitution) in bubble wrap and waited for a run inthe rescheduled GI Kentucky Derby. After all, only in this strangeyear could a team of connections have the benefit of 11 weeksof rest in between the first and second legs of the Triple Crown.Instead, the once-beaten New York-bred star will line up as aheavy favorite in Saturday's GI Runhappy Travers S. at Saratogaas he attempts to go one better than the typical triple andcomplete the second quest of an unofficial quadruple crown, just four weeks ahead of the Run for the Roses. Debuting with an easy victory over fellow Empire-breds on thistrack exactly one year ago, Tiz the Law repeated with authorityin the GI Champagne S. before suffering his first defeat whenthird, beaten under a length, in the sloppy GII Kentucky JockeyClub S. at Churchill in his 2-year-old finale. GIven a brief break,he returned with a three-length success in the GIII Holy Bull S.Feb. 1 at Gulfstream and repeated by 4 1/4 lengths in the GI Curlin Florida Derby there Mar. 28. Backed down to 4-5against nine rivals in front of an empty grandstand in theBelmont, the blaze-faced bay didn't disappoint, taking over inhand at the top of the stretch and cruising to another convincingtriumph. >OTHER= ASMUSSEN SPECIAL AT THE SPAby Brian DiDonato J. Kirk Robison=s Jackie=s Warrior (Maclean=s Music), theAother@ Steve Asmussen runner signed on for Friday=s GIISaratoga Special S., out-footed them all and never looked backen route to a powerful score at the Spa. The imposing bay tookhis Churchill debut by 2 1/2 lengths June 19, and was flatteredwhen the runner-up that day, re-opposing Therideofalifetime(Candy Ride {Arg}) returned to romp at Keeneland and earn>TDN Rising Star= status. He was less proven on paper thanstablemate, GIII Bashford Manor S. winner and >Rising Star=Cazadero (Street Sense), but if their work together on July 26(5f, 1:01.72, 16/31, XBTV Video) was any indication, 3-1 Jackie=sWarrior may have been coming into this class test better than 8-5 Cazadero. After a gate incident that prompted the scratch ofa longshot and reload, the outside-drawn Jackie=s Warrior brokeon top and quickly cleared with >Rising Star= Momos (DistortedHumor) and Therideofalifetime in hot pursuit through splits of:22.06 and :44.85. Runhappy Travers cont. from p1 Saturday, Tiz the Law will get his first test at the Derby
distance of 10 furlongs. Since the Belmont, he has drilled five
times, the last three breezes going five panels over this track,
capped by a :59 4/5 (2/24) move Aug. 1.
"I've never seen him take a deep breath," Tagg told the NYRA
notes team. "I've never had him out of breath after a workout.
I've never had him way out of breath after a race and he [cools]
off very quickly. His lungs settle right down and nothing seems
to be a hazard. I could be all wrong in that. It might change in
another eighth of a mile, I don't know, but I've got no reason to
worry about it."
The biggest threat to the chalk appears to come in the form of
Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman's Uncle Chuck
(Uncle Mo). Bought for $250,000 at Keeneland September, the
hulking dark bay didn't debut until June 12 of this year, but was
worth the wait, overcoming a slow start and rolling to a
seven-length front-running score going a mile at Santa Anita.
Quickly stepped up into stakes company, he proved clearly best
in the GIII Los Alamitos Derby, a performance that was flattered
when runner-up and stablemate Thousand Words (Pioneerof
the Nile) returned to upset top Derby contender Honor A. P.
(Honor Code) with a 104 Beyer in last week's Shared Belief S.
"He's quick," said trainer Bob Baffert, looking for his fourth
Travers win. "He's a big, tall horse but he's really quick on his
feet. He's got a tremendous stride. That's why I thought the mile
and a quarter would suit him well. If you can win the Travers, it's
a big thing. But Tiz the Law looks unbelievable. I watched his last
work and he looked tremendous, so Uncle Chuck will have to
step it up. It should be a great race."Cont. p4

Country Grammer | Sarah Andrew
Travers cont.
The one-two finishers from opening day's GIII Peter Pan S. will
step up in Paul Pompa's Country Grammer (Tonalist) and Global
Thoroughbred and Top Racing's Caracaro (Uncle Mo). The
former, who fought gamely along the rail to prevail, would give
trainer Chad Brown his first Travers score, a victory he has said
would be even more significant to him than winning the Derby,
having grown up in nearby Mechanicville. The latter,
conditioned by Gustavo Delgado, appears to have a bit more
upside, after fighting gamely to within a neck in the Peter Pan in
just his third career start, first around two turns and first outing
since Jan. 11. Caracaro will be piloted by Javier Castellano, who
boasts a record six Travers wins.
Rounding out the top contenders is George Hall and SportBLX
Thoroughbreds' Max Player (Honor Code). No match for Tiz the
Law when third in the Belmont, he nevertheless finished up well
in there, getting his last furlong in :11.85, and has a reason to
move forward off the race, his first since capturing the
GIII Withers S. Feb. 1 at Aqueduct.

Constitution, sire of Tiz the Law | WinStar
TIZ ALL ABOUT MOMENTUMby Chris McGrath
You didn't know? Sure they do, every Travers weekend. All the
Bluegrass stallions. They get together for a few bourbons at the
country club, compare notes on the covering season. And it's not
like the officers' mess, where no gentleman would bandy a
lady's name. They guffaw when they discover that some
notoriously ornery mare was sent to a naVve new subscriber;
they drool enviously when one of the senior members reveals
that he was favored with a visit from that gorgeous maiden who
topped a session at the November Sale. Then they start asking
how the kids are doing, and the grandkids in some cases; and
finally they all settle round the television to watch the
GI Runhappy Travers S., with much joshing between those with
"skin in the game".
This time round, the fixed smiles--the surface amiability not
quite concealing a competitive resentment--will be between
Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie) and Constitution (Tapit). It's a big day
for the younger of the pair, with Tiz The Law looking to
consolidate his standing in the crop a week after his premier
rival on the opposite coast, at much shorter odds, failed to do
the same. Cont. p6

Uncle Chuck | Sarah Andrew
Uncle Mo | Coolmore
This Side Up cont.
To do so, he will have to beat one of the most charismatic
Californian sophomores in Uncle Chuck, whose sire is
additionally represented by Caracaro.
And that's just the way both Uncle Mo and Constitution would
like it. One has the chance to put the upstart in his place. The
other? Well, what Constitution wants, more than anything else
in the world, is to be Uncle Mo.
Because even if he were to emulate the Ashford stallion by
producing a GI Kentucky Derby winner from his debut crop,
there are not yet any guarantees. Last winter, Constitution saw
Bodemeister (Empire Maker) led off the farm to board a plane
for Turkey, hardly the destiny that beckoned after Always
Dreaming won him the Derby at the first attempt in 2017--a
year after Nyquist had similarly given Uncle Mo the perfect
start.

Caracaro | Sarah Andrew
This Side Up cont.
Even before he won the Derby, Nyquist's juvenilechampionship had already made his sire the busiest in the land, with no fewer than 253 mares paying a fee promptly elevated to$75,000 from $25,000. That, frankly, is a quite appallingnumber. But they included the dams of Uncle Chuck, Caracaroand a couple with a Derby gate already secured in KingGuillermo and Modernist; not to mention Pneumatic, also in thepicture, and a filly who won three Grade Is last year in Bast. Thenext crop off the Uncle Mo carousel, conceived at ,150,000, hasalready produced a >TDN Rising Star' in Girl Daddy, impressiveon debut for Dale Romans and Albaugh Family Stables at EllisPark a few days ago, and a filly so well regarded by Doug O'Neillthat she was thrown into the deep end Friday in the GII SorrentoS. at Del Mar. Meanwhile eased slightly to $125,000, Uncle Mo's book of 241last year was nationally exceeded only by two glamorous sons ofScat Daddy freshly launched by the same farm, Justify andMendelssohn. Coolmore, of course, is perfectly willing to exposea stallion's percentages in exchange for sufficient volume to a) square the accounts in those commercially fervid openingseasons and b) yield up the headliners that can cover amultitude of sins. WinStar themselves are often not averse to that model, and it's safe to say that the revolving door this spring went roundrather more briskly for Constitution than was the case last year, when he served 85 mares. Though unable to match Uncle Mo'sbarnmate American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) by earnings,he had meanwhile topped the rookies' table by winners, black-type winners and graded stakes winners, and was duly hiked to$40,000 from $15,000. That was a timely breakout for a farmwhose heart-breaking loss ofAmerican Pharoah's sire, in hisprime, had left the premiernames on its roster all in theevening of their careers. Through the first half of thiscampaign, American Pharoah andConstitution have exchanged theemphasis somewhat, Tiz the Lawkeeping his sire top on earningswhile the Triple Crown winnerhas improved his spread of eliteperformers. That's no less thanshould be expected, given therelative quality of their openingbooks, but both are plainlyconsolidating in an era whenstallions are given a ridiculously narrow window to promotetheir genetic wares. Because there is always a precarious margindividing an Uncle Mo and a Bodemeister.
Uncle Mo was fortunate to emerge from a pretty mediocreintake overall, with only Twirling Candy (Candy Ride {Arg})otherwise establishing a place in Kentucky's top tier. To me, thecurrent group of second-crop sires looks much stronger, withquite a few of the slower-burning types still looking highlyeligible to strengthen their profile through the support of those
who breed or buy with the quaintnotion of banking dough on theracetrack, rather than the salesring. Among those that look like they
can build a sustainable career is
Honor Code, albeit his poster boy
was disappointingly laboured last
weekend. Obviously a 20-runner
stampede over 10 furlongs is
more likely to draw out Honor
A.P.'s reserves of stamina, and he
couldn't be in better hands for a
peak effort at Churchill next
month. But, meanwhile, his sire
has another arrow in his quiver
for the Travers in Max Player.
Here is one of the diminishing crew, headed by Tiz the Law,
that was actually ready to roll on the first Saturday in May, only
to be left idle through the shutdown. Cont. p8

Bernardini | Darley
This Side Up cont.
His resumption behind the class leader in the GI Belmont S., or
what must approximate to that Classic for this year, was plainly
auspicious.
Uncle Mo's pair, in contrast, are profiting from the
postponement of the Derby as relatively late bloomers.
Caracaro, having disappeared for six months after winning a
Gulfstream maiden in January, duly has obvious prospects of
avenging his narrow defeat by Country Grammer--himself
representing a second-crop sire with more to come, in Tonalist
(Tapit)--in their recent rehearsal. Uncle Chuck, for his part, did
not even make his debut until a regular Triple Crown season
would have ended, but has since dealt with barnmate Thousand
Words (Pioneerof the Nile) in a fashion that proved beyond
Honor A.P. last week.
Uncle Chuck is bidding to extend a terrific run for his breeders
at Stonestreet. Among their many recent accomplishments, they
raised the phenomenal filly Gamine (Into Mischief) whose
GI Longines Test S. performance on the same card could yet
nourish the idea that she is the true star of the crop. If so, and
Uncle Chuck can beat Tiz the Law as well, a lot of people will be
revisiting their notes on the Summerfield consignment at the
September Sale of 2018. Gamine was a famous 2-year-old
pinhook, but she was initially sold on the same day as Uncle
Chuck.
Out of five foals to make the track so far, Uncle Chuck's dam
has now produced three graded stakes winners plus an
authentic freak in Maclean's Music (Distorted Humor). Now
there's another guy who sired a Classic winner from his first
crop, though that only put him seventh behind Bodemeister that
year. And he's still very much in the game, having been
represented by the impressive Jackie=s Warrior in Friday=s
GII Saratoga Special S. while Sonic Brees carries the stallion=s
hopes in Saturday=s GII Best Pal S. at Del Mar.
But who's this? Here's Bernardini (A.P. Indy), whispering to the
country club steward that he'll take care of the tab. Travers
weekend, after all, is when everyone remembers how classy he
can be: a brilliant winner of the 2006 running, he then produced
Stay Thirsty and Alpha from his first two crops. His grandson
South Bend (Algorithms) may be up against it in this field, but a
couple of years ago Catholic Boy (More Than Ready) contributed
to Bernardini's dizzy rise as a broodmare sire.
To those prepared to listen, Bernardini will have some wise
counsel. "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword," he'll
say quietly. "If the commercial market exalts you in months, it
can discard you in minutes. You boys remember Bodemeister,
and the way he swaggered in here only three years ago?"
And those youngsters hoping for many such reunions in the
years ahead will reflect. Sure, Bernardini's had a quiet couple of
years. But at 17 he is still probably the best-looking dude in the
room; and his daughters, especially, are already guaranteeing
him a lasting influence on the breed. No, he didn't have a Derby
winner at the first attempt. Maybe he felt that was just too
vulgar, too flash, and that's why he settled for consecutive
Travers winners instead.
And while Constitution may be tempted to tease Bernardini
that their fees have now met, through different trajectories, he
might be well advised to keep his mouth shut pending Art
Collector's appearance at Ellis Park on Sunday.

Ed DeRosa of Brisnet.com takes on TDN=s Steve Sherack and
Brian DiDonato as they handicap Triple Crown prep races plus
the big three races themselves. The three will make $100
Win/Place bets in the preps and $200 in/Place bets in the
Belmont, Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Highest bankroll at the
end wins.
DeRosa - Shared Belief S. Result - Cezanne finished last of four.
Bankroll: $4960.
GI Runhappy Travers S. - I hope people fall in love with the
thought of Baffert shipping East (again!) and bet their lungs on
Uncle Chuck. It=s the only way Tiz the Law could be a playable
price, but I would take 6-5 on him in the win pool. He=s done
everything right as a 3-year-old and for better or worse, had the
luxury of getting to space his races out while still targeting the
most premiere events for 3-year-olds. And so it goes here in the
Travers off a seven-week layoff from the Belmont S. The rubber
will meet the road with the Kentucky Derby just four weeks
after that, but in this spot he has the foundation for 1 1/4 miles,
he=s already carried 126 pounds, and he=s been consistently
faster than the rest of these. Selection: #6 Tiz the Law (1-1).
Sherack - Shared Belief S. Result - Well, the Shared Belief turned
out to be a bit of a trap race for Honor A. P. And that=s fine. I=ll
happily take a better price on the first Saturday in September
now. Bankroll: $3530.
GI Runhappy Travers S. - I really wanted to play against both of
the favorites here, but there just isn=t anything entered to take a
flyer on. Uncle Chuck ran like a horse that still had plenty of
growing up to do in his first two victories, and maybe he has
with all the hype surrounding him now and trio of bullets posted
since. Tiz the Law, meanwhile, continues to do nothing wrong
and seems to be thriving since his impressive score in the GI
Belmont S. He=s the horse to beat here. Selection: #6 Tiz the
Law (1-1).
DiDonato - Shared Belief S. Result - Honor A. P. (+$105) got
beat at very short odds, but had a ton going against him and is
probably a much more appealing wagering proposition now for
the Derby. Bankroll: $5230.
GI Runhappy Travers S. - I hate to keep chalking out, but Tiz the
Law looks awful tough in here and I=m not going to give away
points and possibly my lead just for the sake of being contrarian.
He appears to be working very well and has won over the
Saratoga surface; drew a good post; and 10 panels doesn=t seem
like a major obstacle. I=m not fully sold on Uncle Chuck, so
something like a tri key of Tiz the Law over Max Player, Country
Grammar Grammer and Caracaro might be the play pari-
mutuelly, though it won=t pay too much. Selection: #6 Tiz the
Law (1-1).
GAMINE TURNS BACK FOR TESTby Joe Bianca
You'd be hard-pressed to find a performance by a 3-year-old
filly in the past decade as jaw-dropping as what Michael Lund
Peterson's Gamine (Into Mischief) produced in the GI Longines
Acorn S. June 20 at Belmont. Considered the current top dog of
a loaded sophomore filly division in advance of the Sept. 4
GI Kentucky Oaks off that effort, the 'TDN Rising Star' will turn
back to a sprint as a prohibitive favorite in Saturday's
GI Longines Test S. at Saratoga.
Having lofty expectations attached to her ever since she
topped the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale for $1.8 million, the
bay didn't make it to the races a a juvenile, but dominated by
6 1/4 lengths as a 1-10 favorite in her much-anticipated
unveiling Mar. 7 at Santa Anita. Cont. p10

Test S. cont.
Shipped and stretched out to two turns in an Oaklawn
allowance May 2, she gamely fought off Speech (Mr Speaker),
who returned two starts later to score convincingly in the GI
Central Bank Ashland S.
Gamine was later disqualified from that victory, however, for a
lidocaine positive, with the ruling coming after she decimated six
rivals with an 18 3/4-length romp in the Acorn. The effort
earned a 110 Beyer, tied for the second-highest figure earned by
any horse thus far in 2020.
"She looks great. We're keeping her one turn," trainer Bob
Baffert told the NYRA notes team. "I would have liked to stretch
her out one more time, the timing wasn't just right for it, but
she's doing really well. She's a really exciting filly, so hopefully
she runs as well as in the past and then we can run her in the
Kentucky Oaks."
The clear second choice on the morning line, Venetian Harbor
(Munnigs), turns back as well after a pair of odds-on defeats
going two turns. A dominant second-out graduate Dec. 29 at
Santa Anita, the $110,000 Keeneland September grad repeated
in comfortable fashion in the GII Las Virgenes S. there Feb. 8
before running second to Swiss Skydiver (Daredevil) in the
GIII Fantasy S. May 1 at Oaklawn and to Speech in the Ashland.
"At some point, she could get the [route] distance with the
right scenario," said Aimee Dollase, assistant to trainer Richard
Baltas. "She trained well into those races. She set a quick pace in
the Fantasy but the other filly, Swiss Skydiver, is obviously a very
good filly and she just ran her down in the last part. She ran a
big race in the Ashland, as well. She set a nice pace but Speech is
coming into her own. She's been beaten by two very good fillies
going long, which is probably more what those fillies wanted to
do, so we'll see how she runs here with a cutback in distance."
Alex and JoAnn Lieblong's Wicked Whisper (Liam's Map) looks
to get back to her top form. Named a 'Rising Star' off a
6 1/4-length debut victory here last August, the chestnut
doubled up in the GI Frizette S., but retreated to finish a
well-beaten fifth in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies and
again backed up to be a distant fourth making her seasonal
debut in the GIII Beaumont S. July 10 at Keeneland.
Up in Smoke (The Big Beast) figures to benefit if the pace gets
hot. Victorious in four of her first five outings, including a score
in Gulfstream's Game Face S. June 6, the gray had little chance
when fourth behind a slow pace in the GIII Victory Ride S. July 4
at Belmont, but still closed strongly enough to clock her final
five-sixteenths in a swift :28.95.

Made the lukewarm favorite on the morning line is Kaleem
Shah's Bellafina (Quality Road). A three-time Grade I winner in
her first eight career starts, the $800,000 Fasig-Tipton
Gulfstream buy was a dull fifth as the favorite in the GI Kentucky
Oaks and third when again favored in the GI Longines Test S.
here last summer. Burned up on a fast pace and fading to fourth
in the GI Cotillion S., she bounced back with a career high when
dueling dual champion Covfefe (Into Mischief) to the wire in the
F/M Sprint before settling for second and was runner-up again
after setting a blistering tempo in the GI La Brea S. A troubled
fourth in the Carousel S. Apr. 25 at Oaklawn, she got her first
win in over a year when scoring in the GIII Desert Stormer S., but
was beaten at 1-2 when second in the GII Great Lady M S. last
out July 4 at Los Alamitos.
Last year's Kentucky Oaks heroine Serengeti Empress
(Alternation) and last year's Ballerina victress Come Dancing
(Malibu Moon) both also need a return to top form as the
second and third choices, respectively. Serengeti Empress,
runner-up in the GI Acorn S. and the Test after her Oaks
triumph, retreated to sixth in the Cotillion before finishing a
solid third as the pacesetter in the GI Longines Breeders' Cup
Distaff. Second at odds-on in the GIII Houston Ladies Classic S.,
she rebounded with a dominant 6 1/4-length score in the
GII Azeri S., but was 11th after chasing the speed in the GI Apple
Blossom H. and offered little resistance to champion Midnight
Bisou (Midnight Bisou) when fourth in the GII Fleur de Lis S.
June 27 at Churchill.
Come Dancing, widely considered the best older filly and mare
sprinter last year after going four-for-five to start her campaign,
a stretch that included a 3 1/2-length score in the Ballerina,
made no impact when sixth at 2-1 in the Breeders' Cup Filly &
Mare Sprint. Backing up to 12th in the Apple Blossom, she
couldn't get to re-opposing longshot Victim of Love
(Speightstown) as an odds-on runner-up in the GIII Vagrancy H.
June 27 at Belmont. The Blue Devil Racing Stable homebred will
attempt to become just the second back-to-back winner of the
Ballerina, following Shine Again (Wild Again), who scored in the
2001 and 2002 renewals.
Rounding out the field are speedsters Cookie Dough
(Brethren) and Letruska (Super Saver) and late-running Pink
Sands (Tapit), who figures to benefit most if the pace gets hot.
JOLIE OLIMPICA TO BEAT IN YELLOW
RIBBON
by Joe Bianca
Fox Hill Farms' speedy Jolie Olimpica (Brz), a close runner-up
to division leader Rushing Fall (More Than Ready) last out, will
go postward as the horse to beat in Saturday's eight-horse
GII Yellow Ribbon S. at Del Mar.
Undefeated in three starts in her native land, capping her
Brazilian career with a dominant win over males in the
G1 Jockey Club Brasileiro at Gavea last June, the chestnut got off
to an auspicious start Stateside when annexing the GIII Las
Cienegas S. going 5 1/2 furlongs Jan. 11 at Santa Anita. Getting a
clear lead in the GII Buena Vista S. when stretching out to a mile
Feb. 22, however, she couldn't quite stay and settled for second.
Rebounding with a score in the GII Monrovia S. back sprinting
May 25, she again attempted to stretch her speed in the
GI Coolmore Jenny Wiley S. July 11 at Keeneland and again just
gave it up late, finishing a narrow second in Rushing Fall's
course-record-setting performance. Drawing outside in a field
without other clear speed, she figures to get a dream trip here.

RODERICK HEADS WEST FOR BEST PAL
Runaway Belmont debut winner Roderick (Into Mischief),
scratched out of Friday=s deep GII Saratoga Special S., has been
tabbed as the 9-5 morning-line favorite in Saturday=s GII Best Pal
S. at Del Mar.
Roderick crushed a trio of rivals on debut for trainer Wesley
Ward on Long Island June 21, including runner-up Zippy Baby
(Cairo Prince), who returned to graduate next out at Saratoga.
Purchased by Breeze Easy for $550,000 as a KEESEP yearling,
Roderick is a full-brother to GIII Southwest S. winner One Liner
and hails from the same female family as Grade I winners
Albertus Maximus (Albert the Great) and Daredevil (More Than

Highly regarded maiden Ambivalent (Constitution), a
$550,000 OBSMAR graduate, looks to go one better following a
strong second-place finish on debut behind wire-to-wire winner
Weston (Hit It a Bomb) going 4 1/2 furlongs at Santa Anita June

Santa Anita debut winner Herd Immunity (Union Rags) is the
lone runner in the field with stakes experience, entering off a
well-beaten third in Churchill=s GIII Bashford Manor S. June 27.

Saratoga Special cont.
"[Trainer Steve Asmussen] wanted me to get him out of there
where he put himself,@ said winning rider Joel Rosario. AHe
broke well and we were just hanging on the lead, so I just rode it
from there. He was looking really nice and he was enjoying that.
He had his going ears back and forth and he looked like he was
going easy even though the fractions were fast. He was having
no problem with that. When they came close to him he wanted
to go, and I felt even more confident at that point. I knew he had
something left."
This was Asmussen=s fifth Saratoga Special win (Cuvee 2003,
Kodiak Kowboy 2007, Kantharos 2010, Copper Bullet 2017).
"With babies, I just wanted a clean break as he did in his first
race and let his talent take over,@ he said. ABeing Saratoga, there
were a lot of nice forms coming into it but when you get to
Saratoga, not everybody likes the circumstances. I'm glad to see
that he does.@
The Hall of Famer added, "I think this was a new test for him.
He won first time out at five-eighths of a mile and obviously was
sharp. [Sire] Maclean's Music is a horse that we had that was
brilliantly quick but we always thought from training him that he
would stretch out.@
Asmussen said the GI Runhappy Hopeful S. here over seven
panels Sept. 7 would likely be next on the agenda for Jackie=s
Warrior. As for the beaten favorite: "[Jockey] Ricardo [Santana,
Jr.] didn't think [Cazadero] handled the racetrack at all. Most
likely, with him being two-for-two at Churchill Downs, we'll get
him back there."
Pedigree Notes:
Jackie=s Warrior is the 18th black-type winner and fourth
graded stakes winner for Hill >n= Dale resident Maclean=s Music,
whose half-brother Uncle Chuck (Uncle Mo) will look to play the
role of spoiler in Saturday=s GI Runhappy Travers S. Trained by
Asmussen for Cazadero=s owner/breeder Stonestreet, Maclean=s
Music made just one start--a 7 1/4-length romp at Santa Anita
as a March 3-year-old, good for a 114 Beyer Speed Figure, the
fastest ever earned by a debuter. The horse Maclean=s Music
beat that day was named Flightofalifetime--no relation to
Therideofalifetime.
Maclean=s Music=s most accomplished performer, GI Preakness
S. hero Cloud Computing, is out of a mare by Jackie=s Warrior=s
maternal grandsire, A.P. Indy. Jackie=s Warrior is the first graded
winner out of a mare by A.P. Five Hundred, who began his stud
career in Florida before quickly being exported to Chile.
Jackie=s Warrior=s hard-knocking dam Unicorn Girl was far and
away A. P. Five Hundred=s most productive U.S.-sired runner--
she was a 19-time winner who racked up $483,508 before being
claimed out of her last lifetime start for $16,000 at the age of
eight. Jackie=s Warrior is her third foal.
Unicorn Girl was bought back for $110,000 at KEENOV >18
carrying a Candy Ride (Arg) filly and produced an American
Pharoah colt this Mar. 8 before being bred to Into Mischief for
2021. Unicorn Girl is out of SW Horah for Bailey, making her a

My Girl Red, who became the first winner from her freshman
sire (by Afleet Alex)=s small first crop when she aired by 4 1/4
lengths at Santa Anita June 14, ran to short odds in Friday
evening=s GII Sorrento S. to become his first stakes and graded
stakes winner as well. Campaigned by the same connections
who raced the 2014 GI Breeders= Cup Juvenile S. winner and
2015 GII Jim Dandy S. winner, the bay out-footed her five rivals
in the early scramble for position to take a narrow advantage
into the turn. She posted splits of :22.17 and :45.88, and was not
for catching as she kicked on wrapped up and clear of buzzed-
about firster Get On the Bus, who did well from the rail draw
and raced like a horse who would benefit from Friday=s
experience.
AI didn=t have any special instructions; just ride her with
confidence,@ said winning rider Flavien Prat. AShe showed speed
away from there, then we got a nice breather on the turn. From
there she just went on and won in hand.@
Trainer Keith Desormeaux added, AFlavien was telling me how
she was looking around and kind of lost interest the last eighth.
What was nice to me was that she was doing that the first
quarter. I know it=s still early and the time is average. But I think
she can go even quicker and I sure don=t want to complain. She
has always shown signs of class and it=s nice to see one duplicate
in the afternoon what we see in the mornings.@
My Girl Red will be pointed towards the GI Del Mar Debutante
S. Sept. 6.
Pedigree Notes:
Just a $17,000 KEESEP yearling, Texas Red missed by a neck
from far back in his sprint debut before breaking through third
out on the Del Mar synthetic in August of his juvenile season. He
was third behind eventual champion American Pharoah in Santa
Anita=s GI FrontRunner S. that September, and with that one
absent crushed his competition in the GI Breeders= Cup Juvenile
at a tick under 14-1, besting fellow young sires Carpe Diem and
Upstart in the process. He added the GII Jim Dandy S. at
Saratoga the following year with a narrow defeat of Frosted, and
eventually took up stud duties at Crestwood Farm.
Dam Morakami, meanwhile, was just a $21,000 pick-up at the
2017 Keeneland January sale while carrying a Street Boss colt.
That colt was later sold for $150,00 at Keeneland September
and would go on to take a pair of stakes (thus far) as Gold
Street. Morakami produced another Texas Red filly last May and
a Kitten=s Joy filly this year before visiting Into Mischief for 2021.
Prominent owner/breeder G. Watts Humphrey has a
connection to both of Friday=s Grade II-winning juveniles. He
raced Morakami, and bred GII Saratoga Special S. winner
Jackie=s Warrior=s dam sire A. P. Five Hundred.

Hambletonian second choice Ready for Moni | Lisa photo
Click to watch Tristan Ferrell tell us about the mission behind
Spark Community Cafe
HAMBLETONIAN HAS THOROUGHBRED
CONNECTION by Dave Briggs
One of the favorites for Standardbred racing's ultimate prizehas significant connections to the Thoroughbred world. Ready For Moni, the 3-1 morning line second choice inSaturday afternoon's $1 million Hambletonian at theMeadowlands, was bred by the Moni Maker Stable's FrankAntonacci and David Reid, the principals behind Thoroughbredracing's Ice Wine Stable that has campaigned such stars at NoNay Never, now standing at Coolmore Stud in Ireland, and thisyear's promising 2-year-old Fauci (Malibu Moon). Reid is also the owner of Preferred Equine Marketing, adual-breed sales agency that has its roots in the Standardbredworld. Antonacci, one of the owners of family-operatedStandardbred nursery Lindy Farms based in Connecticut, is alsoan owner of the famed Lexington harness track the Red Mile, aswell as the GreatHorse golf club in Hampden, Massachusetts.Antonacci=s son Philip serves as the Director of Sales forPreferred Equine=s Thoroughbred division. Long the largestconsignor of Standardbreds, Preferred Equine made theirThoroughbred debut in 2013 with a yearling consignment at theFasig-Tipton Saratoga New York-bred sale, and have beenincreasing their Thoroughbred footprint ever since. Ready for Moni was sold for $220,000 at the 2018 LexingtonSelected Yearling sale, and was purchased by John Fielding andpartners. Lindy Farms retained a piece of the colt, one of twoHambletonian elimination winners on Saturday, Aug. 1. TheToronto-based Fielding is another well-known name in bothbreeds. Fielding has bred numerous graded stakes winners inthe Thoroughbred game with partner Fred Hertrich, including GI winners Catholic Boy and Diversify. The pair own around 100 mares at Hertrich=s Watercress Farm in Lexington. Ready For Moni is also owned by Herb Liverman of Florida andBud Hatfield of Ohio.
A victory Saturday by Ready For Moni would also give the
Antonacci family a record sixth Hambletonian triumph. Different
combinations of the Antonacci clan have won the Hambletonian
with: Lindys Pride (1969), Speedy Crown (1971), Probe (1989),
Harmonious (1990) and Victory Dream (1994).
A win would also be a significant breeding triumph for the
Moni Maker Stable. Ready For Moni is the result of its efforts to
successfully blend French and American trotting blood to
produce a superior Standardbred. In the harness racing world, it
is still relatively rare for a North American mare to be bred to a
European stallion or vice-versa.
Ready For Moni is a son of French stallion Ready Cash out of
Nothing But Moni, a daughter of the famed American-bred Moni
Maker, who earned nearly $5.6 million in her racing career
competing both in North America and Europe.
The Hambletonian post time is 4:35 p.m., and will be aired on
a tape-delayed basis on the CBS Sports Network in a program
beginning at 6 p.m.
THERE=S ALWAYS AN OPEN SEAT AT SPARK
COMMUNITY CAFE by Katie Ritz
If you peak through the windows of the new cafe in downtown
Versailles, Kentucky, the sights and smells of the tantalizing
cuisine draw you closer to the door. Cajun shrimp and grits,
chicken pesto pizza and beef short ribs are laid out across
wooden tables adorned with mason jars filled with freshly-cut
flowers.
Normally, many people living in this community wouldn=t
dream of stepping across the threshold of such an upscale, and
perhaps mistakenly pretentious, establishment. The dollar signs
listed on the menu next to those mouth-watering entrees would
make it impossible. But at Spark Community Cafe, anyone--
regardless of financial status or background, is welcome.

Araceli Ayala and family| Araceli Ayala
Spark Community Cafe cont.
AOur goal here is if folks come in and they can=t afford their
meals, they can volunteer for those meals,@ said Spark=s co-
executive director Tristan Ferrell. AAny customers that come in
for lunch or for special events and give a gratuity, that gratuity
goes towards paying for [the first person=s] meal. So it=s a cycle
of paying it forward.@
Ferrell grew up in Woodford County, and has always had a
passion for his community. As a senior in high school, he
participated in a capstone
course called Community
Activism. The students before
him had created pop-up festivals
called Spark Weekends in an
effort to generate economic
development downtown. Ferrell
and his classmates decided to
take it one step further by
implementing a permanent
community space by opening a
cafe. After three years of
fundraising, the restaurant
officially opened in March of
2019. Now a senior in the
University of Kentucky=s
Community and Leadership Development program, Ferrell has
dedicated his career to promoting community growth and
betterment.
AFrom the beginning, we knew that if people wanted to come
in and they couldn=t afford their meals, then we would be able
to give them a meal and they could help us around the
restaurant,@ he said.
Araceli Ayala has lived in Versailles for about seven years along
with her husband, Antonia Villa, and three children who are all
under the age of 15.
Her husband works at Lane=s End Farm and has passed on his
passion for the industry to the children.
AEvery few months, my husband is able to take my children to
work with him to help feed the horses in the afternoon,@ Ayala
said through a translator. AMy daughter, Lupita Guadalupe (age
four) loves seeing the horses, and isn=t afraid of them, even
though I am. My son Marco (age 14), was able to drive a tractor
outside the stable and he loved it.@
Ayala and her family came into contact with Spark through
another community organization called Esperanza, an after-
school program run by the Versailles Presbyterian Church across
the street from Spark that helps many of the community=s
immigrant children learn English as a second language, while
also offering emotional and social support.
Spark Community Cafe hosted a back-to-school dinner for
Esperanza last fall, and the evening touched Ayala greatly.
AWe were so surprised because they made >pozole,= a
traditional Latin American dish that is very difficult to make and
is very rare,@ she recalled. AWe thought they would make typical
American food, but they made a dish well-known to us. It was
delicious. When it was time to go, we didn=t have to pay. The gift
that I had received touched my heart and I got very emotional
when I tried to thank the employees for their loving act, and for
reminding me of my >patria,= my
home country.@
The Spark team told Ayala that
she and her family were
welcome back any time.
AI was amazed when they
explained that the restaurant
was open to feed everyone--
Latinas and Americans, people
who could pay and people who
couldn=t. Spark gives a warm
meal and a glass of water with
love, humility and respect. That
is something beautiful.@
The organization=s growth over
the past year has been in no
small part to the Woodford County Community Fund. Ashbrook
Farm=s Sandi Bromagen is a board member of the program, and
a passionate advocate for Spark.
AThe connection between Spark Cafe and the Woodford
County Community Fund basically started when I met with a
group of kids for breakfast and they explained to me their vision
for the cafe,@ Bromagen recalled. ATo say the kids were
impressive doesn=t even say the whole thing. They were well-
versed and persuasive. We made them a grant for Spark
weekend, and from there they went on to start Spark Cafe.@
The Woodford County Community Fund helps provide the
capital to back organizations hoping to get a start in the
Versailles community. They have an annual AGrant Shebang@ in
which they challenge local horse farms to participate by
donating money that will fund one worthy program each year.
AThis year we have had five farms climb on board with us,@
Bromagen said. ALane=s End, Newtown Anner Stud Farm,
Stonestreet, Brittany Farm and Ashbrook Farm. We=re looking
for more farms to join us. The community votes on who actually
gets the funds based on where the money is best allocated. It=s a
community decision, and every little bit of seed money creates a
new idea, a new adventure, for Woodford County. Spark Cafe is
a perfect example of the good generated from a community
fund.@ Cont. p17

Spark Café relies on a volunteer-based wait staff
Spark Community Café
Some of Spark=s most frequent customers are members of the
Woodford County Thoroughbred industry, but in the unique
ecosystem that is Spark Community Cafe, grooms sit alongside
farm managers. Barn employees are at a table next to office
staff.
AWe have people coming in [from farms] who aren=t paying for
the meals,@ Ferrell said. AAnd then we have folks coming in from
Coolmore, Ashbrook and from local government sitting right
next to each other. Everybody=s talking about different things,
but it=s an encompassing community space and it=s really neat to
see.@
Even the chefs in the kitchen have Thoroughbred connections.
Executive Chef Isaiah Screetch is a former Sous Chef for
Keeneland Hospitality, and several other employees have
previously worked at Keeneland.
AThe horse world comes full circle here when people come in
and dine with us,@ Ferrell said. AWe get to meet some really cool
people who are involved in one of the biggest industries in our
community.@
He continued, ASometimes when we=re working and I=m
supposed to be getting work done, I find myself sitting down and
talking to the people from the farms and learning what they do
day-to-day and how their world works. It=s really interesting
getting to see the different dynamics with them coming in and
getting away from the busyness of their industry to see our
industry for a day.@
Of course, just like everything else it seems, the Coronavirus
pandemic has taken its toll on the restaurant. Just as the cafJ
was starting to gain momentum within the community, they
were forced to shut their doors to guests after just over a year
of business. But this never stopped them from reaching out to a
community in need.
AWhen everything first happened, it was a scary time for us,@
Ferrell admitted. AWe were sending out meals more than we
ever had, especially to school kids who were impacted by not
being able to get a free school lunch. We=ve partnered with
Esperanza and have been delivering meals to them for the past
five months. This week, we will have delivered over 1,400 meals
since March.@
Prior to the pandemic, Spark also hosted a weekly session for
the Esperenza middle school students on cooking and good
nutrition.
Spark Community Cafe has been reopened for in-person
service for just over a month, and now more than ever they are
relying on their community to help them bounce back from the
pandemic interruption.
AAs we continue to feed more and more people each week,
donations are imperative for us to be able to do that,@ said
Ferrell. AWe really do take it week to week, as far as what we=re
going to be able to do for people. All of our wait staff that comes
into the cafe is volunteer-based. So we really do rely on
volunteers every day to do what we do.@
Already, 2,100 volunteer hours had been donated to Spark=s
mission. In addition, 3,000 meals have been served to the food
insecure and $15,000 has been contributed to the central
Kentucky farm economy. A good deal of revenue comes in from
a growing catering business.
As Spark now looks ahead to discover how they can have an
even greater impact on their community, Ferrell takes a
moment to reflect on everything they=ve accomplished so far.
AWe=ve only been around for about a year and I hope that in
that time, we=ve impacted a few people with being able to give
them meals and being able to make families comfortable in
coming here and joining a real community space that not only
belongs to us, but that is open to anybody who would like to
come in.@
Araceli Ayala is at least one person who has been forever
impacted by the cafe.
AIt is difficult and painful to ask for help,@ she said. AEven if it
means having no money, I was raised to pay what I owe. When
you drive by the restaurant, you think it is just a restaurant. But
it feeds people in our community when they are unable to feed
themselves. When you drive by the Versailles Presbyterian
Church, it just looks like a church. But the church members and
the volunteers help pay for the Esperanza program, which is
helping people pay for their bills during the pandemic. The love
for all the Hispanic people that Spark Cafe and the Esperanza
program show toward us has created a circle of giving--a circle
of God=s love-- and I hope that it will continue to grow.@

Jolting Joe | Sarah Andrew
by Andrea Branchini
Marylin Monroan, the (roan) dam of Saratoga stakes winning
3-year-old colt Jolting Joe, is the gift that keeps on giving, when
it comes to ingenious names. After her foals Mr President--a
full-brother to Jolting Joe--and Somelikeithotbrown (Big Brown),
we now have a lovely reference to Marilyn=s second husband
Joe DiMaggio, one of whose nicknames was AJoltin= Joe@--
epitomized by the 1942 big-band song AJoltin' Joe DiMaggio", by
Ben Homer and Alan Courtney.
The AYankee Clipper@ (another of Joe=s nicknames) is one of
the best baseball players of all times and has pride of place also
in the moving lyrics of a famous Simon & Garfunkel song:
AWhere have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?/Our nation turns its
lonely eyes to you/Woo, woo, woo.@
Let=s hope the future career of this promising young colt
resembles the luminous one of his legendary namesake.

May 16. She led the way in her first try on turf over course and
distance July 17, but was overtaken late and forced to settle for
second. Hammered down to 3-2 favoritism to go one better
here, the dark bay seized the early advantage, zipping through a
:21.71 first quarter. Clocking a :45.19 half-mile, she held off a
pair of late-surging rivals to win by a head. Ship=s Creek
(Midshipman) was second. Amber Isle has an unnamed juvenile
filly by Quality Road and a yearling filly by Violence. She did not
produce a foal in 2020, but was bred to Gun Runner this season.

BARRISTER TOM (g, 2, Artie Schiller--Taylor Lane, by Parading)
failed to fire in his Indiana unveiling July 8, finishing ninth in a
main track sprint. Given a 7-1 chance for this extension in trip
and switch to the lawn, the bay was hustled to the front and
appeared to be out for an afternoon stroll as he loped along
through soft early splits. Joined by heavily favored The Right
Stuff (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) on the backstretch run, the
gelding shook free of that rival in the lane and kicked clear to
graduate by four lengths. Dewy=s Hit (Hit It a Bomb) overtook
the favorite to be second. The winner=s dam had a Jimmy Creed
filly this year and was bred back to Algorithms. Lifetime Record:

DEAUVILLE CLASH THEFEATURE ON SATURDAY
Saturday=s action is relatively quiet in terms of recent activity
and the main action takes place in the heat of Normandy=s coast
with Deauville staging the G2 Prix Hocquart Longines.
Godolphin=s progressive Volkan Star (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire})
looks to build on his latest win in the 12-furlong G3 Prix du Lys at
ParisLongchamp on July 14, having taken the Listed Fairway S. at
Newmarket on June 27. Charlie Appleby has a creditable record
at this August-long festival and said, AVolkan Star brought a very
progressive profile into the Prix du Lys and duly obliged. This is
another step up in class, but he has done well since his last run.
We are feeling our way through the grades and hope he can run
another good race.@
He meets Claudio Marzocco=s Port Guillaume (Fr) (Le Havre
{Ire}), who lost his unbeaten record but nothing in defeat when
fifth in the 10 1/2-furlong G1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly on
July 5. Undone by the steady early pace in that Classic, the
Jean-Claude Rouget trainee has another two furlongs to run
here which is certain to suit on that evidence.
Sixth and more of a disappointment in the Jockey Club, the
Wertheimers= May 14 G3 Prix la Force winner Pao Alto (Fr)
(Intello {Ger}) needs to bounce back in a fascinating contest
which also features the July 12 G2 Derby Italiano hero Tuscan
Gaze (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Cont. p2
UPCOMING GOFFS, TATTS IRELAND SALES
TO STAY IN IRELAND Goffs has announced that its forthcoming Land Rover Sale of
National Hunt store horses will take place in Ireland as planned
despite a failed bid to have certain overseas buyers made
exempt from the country=s 14-day quarantine requirement for
visitors. Tattersalls Ireland=s Derby and May Store Sales will also
go ahead as planned at Fairyhouse on Aug. 18 and 19 and Aug.
20, respectively. The sale is set to take place next week on Aug.
12 and 13 and only incoming visitors from >Green List= countries=
will not have had to quarantine for 14 days prior to the sale.
That list extends to 15 countries and includes Italy, Norway and
Greece, but travellers arriving in Ireland from Britain, France,
Spain and America among others would have to undergo the
stipulated period of isolation. A joint submission which Asought
to respect the quarantine requirements@ was made by Goffs,
Tattersalls Ireland, Horse Racing Ireland and Irish Thoroughbred
Marketing to urge the Irish government to allow a limited
number of key overseas buyers to be present at both the Land
Rover Sale at Goffs and the Derby Sale at Tattersalls Ireland on
Aug. 18 and 19. Cont. p2

Deauville Clash The Feature On Saturday cont. from p1
Newmarket=s card features the G3 Betway Sweet Solera S., in
which another Godolphin representative is in evidence in
Danilova (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), who scored over the course and
seven-furlong distance last Saturday. Charlie Appleby said of
her, AWe are turning out Danilova quite quickly, but she has
come out of her last run in good order and has two good runs
over this course and distance under her belt. She will need to
improve again with the step up to this grade, but the signs have
all been good and we felt that this was a nice opportunity for
her.@
One of Danilova=s most notable rivals is Robert Tyrrell=s
impressive July 18 six-furlong Newbury maiden scorer Fly Miss
Helen (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}), who bids to provide Richard Hannon
with a third success in the last five renewals. AShe=s done very
well since her first run. Sean [Levey] has been riding her in a lot
of her work and he=s been impressed,@ her trainer said. AShe=s a
big filly who was slow to come to hand, but she showed plenty
of ability from day one. She=s not flashy in her work as such, but
she does it well and we=re looking forward to running her. This
race has been a good stepping-stone for a lot of good fillies over
the years.@
At Haydock, the G3 BetVictor Rose of Lancaster S. sees Isa
Salman Al Khalifa=s Global Giant (GB) (Shamardal) look to build
on his success in the July 19 Listed Steventon S. at Newbury.
John Gosden=s son Thady said, AHe=s in good form and Haydock
should suit him, I think. Hopefully they don=t get too much rain.@
Also in action is Cheveley Park Stud=s G1 Falmouth S. winner and
>TDN Rising Star= Veracious (GB) (Frankel {GB}), who is back after
a wind operation in the Listed BetVictor British EBF Dick Hern S.
Cork=s G3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Give Thanks S. is a race to
savour, with last year=s winner Tarnawa (Ire) (Shamardal)
returning for the first time in 2020 having also garnered the
G2 Blandford S. at The Curragh in September. The Aga Khan=s
4-year-old has a stiff task on this reintroduction, having to give
10 pounds to the July 18 G1 Irish Oaks second and third
Cayenne Pepper (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and Passion (Ire) (Galileo
{Ire}). Tarnawa represents the Dermot Weld stable and Passion
the Ballydoyle operation, which between them have accounted
for all of the last eight editions of this 12-furlong contest.

This was denied following consultation with Ireland=s National
Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
ANaturally we are disappointed that our submission cannot be
implemented at this time as we had worked with HRI on a
proposal that was workable but respected current government
policy,@ said Goffs Group chief executive Henry Beeby.
AHowever we recognise the increasing challenge facing the
country and appreciate the difficult decisions facing the
government as the country battles this pandemic. On behalf of
Goffs, I apologise to all our clients who are affected, first and
foremost those UK buyers who had accepted the invitation, and
our vendors who have supported us with such an outstanding
group of horses. As we have stated, the sale will proceed with
detailed social distancing protocols in place. The Goffs team is
continuing to proactively promote the sale and will provide as
much assistance as possible to any buyer unable to attend by
linking them with Irish agents, highlighting those entries that can

be viewed online and encouraging the use of Goffs Online to
bid. We will publish a list of agents who confirm their
attendance and are available to act as an inspector whilst we are
also available to take phone bids from any potential purchaser.@
He added, AAs to future sales, we will continue to monitor the
situation and look at any and all options as matters evolve but
we would reiterate that the modern-day Goffs was set up to
provide a world-class sales facility in Ireland and to serve the
Irish breeder. At the same time we have a superb sales complex
in the UK so we have options to serve the industry on both sides
of the Irish Sea. However, we feel it would be imprudent to rush
in to any finite decisions beyond next week at this stage and we
would ask for calm heads and the continued support of our loyal
clients as by working together we can deliver the best results for
the world-class Irish horses so sought after around the world.
AFor now we look forward to next week as we have a superb
group of horses to offer and we should remember that recent
editions of the Land Rover Sale have welcomed over 350 Irish
buyers whilst modern technology can allow others to
participate. It=s not ideal but nothing is at the moment and the
health of the nation must be the priority.@
Tattersalls Ireland Chief Executive Officer Matt Mitchell said,
ANaturally we are disappointed that our joint submission to
government has not been approved, but we fully respect the
decision and will continue to do everything in our power to
ensure that the Derby and May Store Sales run as smoothly as
possible. While the sales will take place under strict protocols,
we will be working tirelessly to assist purchasers in any way we
can, in particular those who cannot be present due to the travel
constraints.

Horse Racing Ireland=s chief executive Brian Kavanagh

international travel consequences are becoming ever more

DUAL GROUP 1 WINNER WATCH ME
RETIRED Alexander Tamagni and Regula Vannod=s Watch Me (Fr)
(Olympic Glory {Ire}), who last weekend added a victory in the
G1 Prix Rothschild to her G1 Coronation S. score last year, has
been retired. The news was first reported by Jour de Galop.
AI wasn=t completely happy with how she came out of the
[Rothschild],@ said trainer Francis Graffard. AWe spoke to the
owners and we decided together that we should respect the filly
[by retiring her]. It was a good way for her to finish--she proved
she=s a very good filly. Now we have to try to find another one.@
Bred by Antoinette Tamagni and Cocheese Bloodstock, Watch
Me was offered at Arqana August but was taken home when led
out unsold at i30,000. Sent to the yard of Francis Graffard, she
won at second asking at two. She won the G3 Prix Imprudence
on seasonal debut at three before besting the dual Guineas
winner Hermosa (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) at Royal Ascot and was third
in the G1 Prix de l=Opera before season=s end. The chestnut had
won both her starts this season, taking the Listed Prix de la
Calonne three weeks prior to the Rothschild.

CURRAGH GIVEN GO-AHEAD AMIDST
LOCKDOWN Sunday=s G1 Keeneland Phoenix S. card at The Curragh has
been given the green light to proceed despite lockdown
measures being tightened in Kildare after a spike in coronavirus
cases. Brian Kavanagh, chief executive of Horse Racing Ireland,
said, AWe have had confirmation racing can continue behind
closed doors, that was part of the government announcement.
We have detailed safety procedures in place. The protocols are
strong and they have been well-adhered to since racing
resumed and it=s important everyone keeps following them.@
For the next two weeks, restrictions in Kildare as well as Laois

MEGALLAN (GB) (Kingman {GB}) is the second foal out of the
Listed Lord Weinstock Memorial S. winner Eastern Belle (GB)
(Champs Elysees {GB}) who was placed three times at graded-
stakes level in the States including when second in the 2015 GII
New York S. As a half-sister to Golden Horn (GB), Eastern Belle is
a vital broodmare going forward for Anthony Oppenheimer and
her April-foaled colt is unsurprisingly in training with John
Gosden. Another with esteemed connections is Jeff Smith=s
homebred colt Spirit Mixer (GB) (Frankel {GB}), an Andrew
Balding-trained first foal out of Arabian Queen (Ire) (Dubawi
{Ire}) who famously beat Golden Horn in the 2015 G1
Juddmonte International.

LOOKTOTHERAINBOW (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is a half-sister to the
four-times Group 1-winning miler Ribchester (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB})
who is introduced in the race Charlie Appleby also chose for his
past Dubawi luminary Wuheida (GB). The March-foaled bay is
one of two Godolphin runners alongside the Saeed bin Suroor-

LIGHT OF MY EYES (IRE) (Frankel {GB}) is the latest progeny out
of the Niarchos Family=s five-times Group 1-winning dual Classic
heroine Divine Proportions (Kingmambo) and therefore a half-
sister to a trio of black-type winners. Jessie Harrington saddles
the late May foal, who like Ballydoyle=s fellow newcomer La
Joconde (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) may need more time. That half-
sister to this year=s G1 Irish Derby hero Santiago (Ire)
(Authorized {Ire}) was purchased for Coolmore by the
Broadhurst Agency for 850,000gns at last year=s Tattersalls
October Yearling Sale Book 1 Sale.

thereafter. Scrubbed along inside the quarter-mile marker, the
11-10 favourite was ridden out in the closing stages to assert by
an ultimately comfortable 2 1/4 lengths from Dark Illusion (GB)

immediate lead in this turf bow. Nudged along approaching the
final quarter-mile, the 13-8 joint-favourite came under sterner
urging thereafter and was driven out up the hill to hold the late
surge of Lone Eagle (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) by a head. Godolphin=s
Symbolic Power (GB) (Kingman {GB}), a 2.3-million guineas

Unbridled=s Song), who was largely unconsidered at 20-1 on this
racecourse bow, was held up early worse than mid-division and
allowed to creep into the contest by the home bend. Shaken up
to take over passing the furlong pole, the homebred asserted to
score by 1 3/4 lengths from Skilled Warrior (Ire) (Holy Roman
Emperor {Ire}). Eternal Flame (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), the full-brother
to Winter (Ire), made steady progress late to be fourth. Jockey
Rory Cleary said, AHe=s a lovely horse, he travelled really well
and strongly into the straight and brought me there nice and
easy and picked up smartly. I think there=s a lot of improvement
in him and hopefully he could be a good horse in the making. He
has been working nicely at home and the boss man was very
