    Maximizing and Monetizing Facebook

PresenterPresentation NotesHi, my name is JJ Francais, I am the associate publisher of two newspapers here in Oklahoma and was formerly the community news editor of another newspaper where my focus was on online content. I want to strongly encourage questions and dialog throughout this webinar. Please understand you aren’t interrupting the webinar if you are asking questions, you are giving it purpose.

  • Friend or Foe? While the jury might be out, but let's look at pros and cons

    They have• More money

    • They have more eyes

    • They are real timeWe Have

    • The respect of the people

    • The ability to have the right eyes

    • The local story

  • You have to have the eyes!NEVER FORGET

You can have the eyes that matter. There are pages with thousands of followers, but they have no demographic

scheme thus there is no way to monetize them.

  • Do any of your advertisers have more fans than you?

PresenterPresentation NotesWe have more followers than the regional daily south of us. There are few businesses that have more fans that we do which gives us a position of value.

  • Best Practices

PresenterPresentation NotesThere are more “best practices” than any of us can count. You can Google ideal word counts and have enough reading material for the next 50 years. I am not going to focus on social media as a whole but rather on what is best for our industry. Visit thinkbonfire.com/blog/social-media-best-practices-infographic for best practices with social media. IMPORTANT NOTE: While I agree that we should be concise don’t cut a story so short it doesn’t make sense and if you tuck everything behind a paywall understand you are only reaching your readers.

  • • POST, POST and POST! Did I mention we have to post. If you aren’t posting at least twice a week you are wasting your potential and frankly your time. • Answer Questions! – if you are responding you might as well just delete your Facebook account

    • Share Photos!

    •Be personable!

    Absolute MUSTS

  • How can we utilize Facebook to increase our revenues?

PresenterPresentation NotesThere are more ways to Facebook then I could ever go over in an hour. But, DON’T do nothing or give up. Find what works for your staffing level.

  • Is anyone currently monetizing Facebook

  • Rack Copies• Use FB to

    drive rack sales

    • Also, if you have front page ads and post on FB use that to close the sale!

    • Boost the post with $1 in the town with the lead.

PresenterPresentation NotesSomeone shared at an NNA conference that a $1 boost in select small towns was making a difference and he was right. No, we aren’t getting rich off rack sales but let’s remember why we have racks.

  • Sponsored posts• Businesses• Events• Traffic Alerts• & More

    ONLY AVAILABLEto print

    advertisers

PresenterPresentation NotesWe are starting a new program - $100 for 10,000 views on our traffic advisories – only available to our print customers.

  • • Don’t feel obligated!• Sharing in groups can give you the same

number of views.• Only spend money if it is MISSION

DRIVEN. • Spend money to get results.• Understand even $1 can be worth it.

    Spending Money on FB

PresenterPresentation NotesBefore 2020, take the time to become a verified American on FB and PLEASE don’t hate the process. The fact that FB makes us verify we are Americans before we can buy political ads is a good thing for our industry.

  • Questions

PresenterPresentation NotesI am always happy to answer follow up questions via email.

  • Thank You

PresenterPresentation NotesI want to thank everyone for attending today and if you participated in the conversation you have my utmost thanks, I feel these webinars are far more productive when they evolve into a healthy dialog among a diverse group of industry leaders.
