PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Families:
What a fantastic year we have had so far! Our students have
won first place in the holiday parade for their student-made
float, taken part in garden lessons, met the Raiders, participated
in fitness activities during morning recess, performed in the
choir, and earned various incentives through ST Math, Lexia,
Accelerated Reader, and Attendance.
Thank you for sending your children to us each and every day!
We believe that every child is a leader and look forward to help-
ing each child realize their own individual potential. We love
our Taylor Tiger Leaders!
As we head into the second semester of this year, please feel
free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns so that we
may assist and join us in celebrating their many successes! We
would also like to invite you to stop in and tell us about a teach-
er that has made a difference for your child! See Kelli in the
front office to share your positive stories!
Happy New Year!

ARRIVING EARLY ON CAMPUS
APPLE CORE READING
Parents and guardians, just a
friendly reminder that our cam-
pus IS NOT opened until
7:25am for students. Please do
not have your child(ren) ar -
rive to campus prior to 7:25am,
as there is no adult supervision
and it is considered a liability.
Children MUST be supervised
at all times. We appreciate your
support in this matter.

Students returned 401 Apple Core bookmarks during the first semester. Our school goal is 1,200. We need 799 more bookmarks to reach our goal. If every student at Robert Taylor returned 2 bookmarks during the year we would surpass our goal. The class that returns the most bookmarks will earn a field trip to Morrell Park with an apple pie party! The current top two classes in the school are: Mrs. Barkhuff’s fourth grade class with 52 and Mrs. Floyd’s second grade class with 38.
On Friday January 18, two lucky readers will earn a brand new bike with helmets and locks included. The bikes will be awarded to the boy and girl in the school who returned the most bookmarks during the first se-mester. The bikes were donated by the Dhahran Day-light Masonic Lodge. We will be awarding two more bikes at the end of the year.
Return your completed Apple Core bookmarks on Fri-days to attend “Story and Snack” and earn a raffle ticket for our Mystery Prizes.
For as long as can be remembered, there has been a Christmas Parade on Wa-ter Street, yet Taylor was never apart of it. This year that was all changed thanks to the heart and vision of Mrs. M and her team. They lead a group of Tigers to design, con-struct, assemble, and decorate a float for the City of Henderson Winterfest parade. Stu-dents were dressed in costumes as Candy Girls, Reindeer, and Santa's elves. Although we tried our hardest and did our best, we could not have expected the outcome. Robert L. Taylor Elementary School came away with a FIRST PLACE WIN (in a 3-way tie)!
Engineering students help build the structure and create the facade of the buildings, craft club created the decorations, and numerous staff donated their time (and Christ-mas lights) to bring the vision to the final product. Sound blasted as the float was lead by Mrs. Basham and our Tiger, followed by Tiger Leaders holding our banner with Pen-guins flanking the ranks. Student Reindeers assisted our truck in pulling our float con-sisting of Santa's workshop and a reindeer barn. Flowing up was Buddy and Jovi the elf, Candy Girls, and Santa’s Elves to light the way.
Students and teachers alike had a wonderful time out at the parade, both from the float
and from the street watching. We cannot wait to see what next year will bring!

Parents or Guardians,
Make sure to ask your child about our online math
program- ST MATH! ST Math is a visual instructional
program that engages students in creative and rigorous problem solving, allowing
them to see the math and grow. With ST Math, students play computer games de-
signed to teach math. They can play the games at home on devices with internet
access. We encourage you to have your child play the games to review and prac-
tice the math skills learned in ST MATH at school. Please make sure only the child
with the ST MATH account plays the games. Your child will access the program
just as he or she does at school. Our school-wide goal is for each student to com-
plete 100% of their grade level curriculum by the end of the school year.
We are half way through the year so students should be at or near the 50% mark.
Ask your child what their ST MATH % is! Encourage them to set weekly goals for
growth and to do their personal best when working in ST MATH. If you have any
questions about your child’s progress in ST MATH, please check with your child’s
teacher.
FREE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
GRANT
Did you know that each week your child has the opportuni-
ty to taste different fruits and vegetables? Thanks to The
Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). The Fresh
Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assist-
ed program providing free fresh fruits and vegetables to
children at eligible elementary schools during the school
day. The goal of the FFVP is to introduce children to fresh
fruits and vegetables, to include new and different varie-
ties, and to increase overall acceptance and consumption
of fresh, unprocessed produce among children. The FFVP
also encourages healthier school environments by promot-
ing nutrition education. To learn more, visit the FFVP
webpage: https://www.fnsusda.gov/ffvp/fresh-friut-and-

Hello Tigers!
Looking for something creative to do? Keep checking the Art Contest board outside the Art room door for all the current contests. Right now, we have the US Kids Magazine Cover Contest available for con-test entry. Art work is to be completed outside of class and is due to me, Mrs. Love, by 2/8/19. Winners will receive prizes, and first-place winners will have their art featured on the May/June 2019 cover of the appropriate U.S. Kids maga-zine. To get a copy of the official contest rules or the U.S. Kids privacy policy, please vis-it uskidsmags.com to download a copy. Good Luck and keep creating!
This just in!!! Google's "Doodle for Google" con-test just opened and closes in March. Having the deadline almost 3 months away gives you lots of time to create an inspirational drawing for this contest. 53 students will be named winners. Five finalists will be flown to Google's Mountain View headquarters, and one winning student will receive a $30,000 college scholarship! Plus, the winning artwork will be placed on the Google homepage for a day. This year the theme is "When I grow up, I hope..." So, put your thinking caps on and see Mrs. Love before or after school to pick up an application. :)
