Summer is truly here! We are currently in the middle of our first heat
wave, and the golf course is responding well to the conditions. The
aeration and fertility practice of the spring have set up our turfgrass
to weather the upcoming stress of summer. during the heat we will
be implementing practices to reduce water usage and unnecessary
stressors on the playing surfaces. For example the greens will be
mowing less frequently, but rotating rolling to maintain proper
speed and smoothness. This reduction in the mechanical mowing
stress will reduce the inputs needed to manage the greens while
keeping them healthy during the extreme heat.
The heat of the summer is also a huge safety concern for you and our
staff. i would like to take a moment to remind everyone that during
the heat you need to hydrate to dominate. Please remember to take
care of yourself and enjoy this amazing summer on the golf course.

One of the new tools that we have to
manage the moisture and chemical
conditions of the golf course is our
POGO. The POGO is a moisture,
salinity, and temperature meter that
maps conditions using GPS and cre-
ates real time shareable data to help
our agronomy team manage the golf
course. Using this tool we are able to
fine tune our watering, fertilizing, and
chemical practices to optimize the
playing surfaces.
The goal of this new blog is to keep riverCrest golfers in
the know about all of our projects at hand as well as course
practices & conditions. in addition, the Ce mobile app will
use push notifications so members can quickly check these
posts out on their phones.
one of the new features of this blog will be the occasional
Q&A post. i encourage members to email me any questions
they might have about the course or any of our practices.
We will feature the best questions on upcoming posts.

GOLF ACADEMY NEWS WITH BRIAN MOOSE
DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION ARE YOU THINKING OR PLAYING GOLF?
SWITCHING ON AND SWITCHING OFFThe human brain can’t concentrate for 4-5 hours, it performs
best in short periods of high concentration followed by complete
relaxation. The best golfers in the world have learned the ability
to switch their focus on and off and make each shot its own
separate game. The only “thinking” they do about their game is
done in the 30 seconds or so before a shot. That is, the “analy-
sis” part of the pre-shot routine. The rest of the time they’re just
following the sequence of their shot routine and then completely
switching off, until the routine starts again.
The quality of one shot does not affect the next, they are com-
pletely independent. So however well the last shot was played,
you have to completely detach yourself from it and be ready to
start over on the next one, and do this repeatedly 60-70 or 80
times a round. Get into the mindset that each shot is the most
important shot of your life (in practice and play) and you’ll start
to understand what I’m talking about.
GOOD THINKING VS THINKING THAT WILL HURT YOUR SCOREThe only thinking you need to do during a round of golf is “What
is my strategy?” and “Where is my target?” The rest is to follow
the steps of your shot routine, which if you’ve practiced it well
enough should be on autopilot. It’s that simple.
WHAT SHOULD YOU THINK ABOUT IN BETWEEN SHOTS?ANYTHING BUT YOUR PERFORMANCE OR THE PERFORM-
ANCE OF OTHER PLAYERS. Any thoughts about how you are
playing or your swing are counter-productive to a good score. It
creates tension and pressure to play well. Between each shot
it’s time to relax and just enjoy where you are and what you’re
doing – which is playing a sport you love. Other examples are:
Look at the natural beauty – notice the trees and the sky.
Be grateful that you’re fortunate enough to be playing the game.
Think about something completely unrelated to golf such as the
Women’s World Cup or other sport. Try this next time you play
and be sure to enjoy it no matter how you play. If you do, you
should find “the zone” a lot more often.
WOMEN'S SUMMER CLINIC SERIES—FEW SPOTS REMAIN!!We are excited to offer our Women's Clinic Series again this coming season. This
clinic series is designed for all skill level of golfer. The series will start on the putting
green and work up to hitting longer clubs at the end of the clinic series.
Cost $25 for each clinic/ $100 for the clinic package of 5.
Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm
Have you ever noticed that when you’re playing your best you’re not really “thinking”? You’re not judging your
performance or your score, you’re just focused on hitting quality golf shots? This is called “the zone” and with
the following techniques I’m going to show you how to replicate this mental state more often.
July 11th--Pre-Swing
July 18th--Irons and wedges
July 25th--Hybrids, Fairway woods, and Driver
