LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Th e month of July is upon us, and I can’t help but think about how lucky we all are to live in this great country---a country that has aff orded all of us opportunities that people from other countries can only dream of. So as we celebrate our independence on July 4th, I encourage everyone to refl ect on the words of the “Pledge of Allegiance” to our great fl ag:
“I pledge allegiance to the fl ag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands---One nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
For me, aft er refl ecting on these words, I pray for our great country that we all are able to come together and celebrate our Independence Day in peace!
Ephesians 4:3: “Make every eff ort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.”
Until I see you all again, may God bless you, keep you safe and healthy.

HELLO FROM THE FRONT DESK....
02
Well, Covid has raised its ugly head here in Seguin again… and this time at a higher rate than before. As most of you know, we usually close the center for a week every July to do a deep cleaning so we can continue to have excellent survey inspections. Th is month we are going to remain open for ‘Catered events’ (like Th e Rotary Club of Seguin & Th e Noon Lions Club) but we will not be open for dine-in lunches through the month of July. Th is is a conscientious eff ort on our part to keep our community safe.
Any of you who know us well, know that we are NOT quit-ters. We will continue to fi ght this dog-gone virus with you to the best of our ability. We will, however, need to make some changes in July.
We will be OPEN for catered events. We will use every method available to assure that our building is clean and sanitized for everyone who attends our functions here, and we will space tables out so social distancing is safe for everyone involved.
We will be OPEN for DELIVERY meals… going out to homes or offi ces. Our dining room will NOT BE OPEN for DINE-IN pub-lic lunches in July. We will NOT be having any dances in July. No dancehall can guarantee that someone will not bump into you on the dancefl oor, so until the virus subsides, we are trying to remain safe.
Th e majority of you told us that you are not ready to come back yet…. so NO dances. I want to thank the bands who courageously stepped up and were ready to play, but it does not seem to be the right time yet for our senior citizens.
While we will be closed to in-and-out daily foot traffi c, we will be working on some exciting new projects to share with you at our Grand re-opening in August! God bless you. Stay safe, and we hope to see you when de-livering lunches or at one of our catering events soon!
With Love,
-Glenda

LIFE BEFORE THE COMPUTER
Memory was something you lost with age.An application was for employment.A program was a TV show.A cursor used profanity.A keyboard was a piano!A web was a spider’s home.A virus was the fl u.A CD was a bank account.A hard drive was a long road trip.A mouse pad was where a mouse lived. And, if you had a 3 1/2 inch fl oppy…you just hoped nobody found out!
MISSIONARY
Th e missionary realized he hadn’t taught the natives about the forest and how to speak English. He takes the chief on a fi eld trip into the forest. He points to a tree and says, “Th is is a tree.” Th e native grunts, “Tree.” Th ey walk a little farther and he points to a huge rock and says, “Rock.” Th e native runts, “Rock.” Th e missionary was getting very enthusiastic when he suddenly heard a rustling sound. He looks over and sees a couple heavily engaged in sexual activity. He quickly responds, “Riding Bike,” and moves on as fast as possible. Th e native looks over at the couple and pulls out his blow gun and kills them both. Th e missionary goes nuts and yells at the chief, “I’ve spent years teaching the tribe to be civilized and be kind to each other! How could you kill those people in cold blood?” He replied, “He riding my bike!”
SIX LITTLE STORIES WITH LOTS OF MEANING
1. Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of the prayer, all the people gathered, but only one little boy came with an umbrella. Th at is FAITH!2. When you throw babies up in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them. Th at is TRUST!3. Every night we go to bed without assurance of being alive the next morning, but we still set the alarm to wake us up. Th at is HOPE!4. We plan big things for tomorrow, in spite of zero knowledge of the future. Th at is CONFIDENCE!5. We see the world suff ering, but still we get married and have children. Th at is LOVE!6. On an old man’s shirt was a sentence , “I am not 80 years old. I am sweet 16 with 64 years of experience.” Th at is ATTITUDE!
Have a HAPPY day and live your life like these 6 stories. Remember---”Good friends are the rare JEWELS OF LIFE, diffi cult to fi nd and impossible to replace!”

Crunch Crunch Five year old Billy was sitting at the dinner table watching his dad eat a bowl of soup. He asked, “Dad is it ok for humans to eat bugs?” His dad replied, “We don’t discuss those kind of things at our dinner table, but just as soon as I’m fi nished eating, we’ll talk about it.” A little later, Dad asked, “OK son, what was your question?” Billie replied, “Well it’s ok now, but there was a bug in your soup, but it is gone now!”

DON’T ARGUE WITH CHILDRENA little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. Th e teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because, even though it was a very large mammal, its throat was very small. Th e little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human, it was physically impossible.
Th e little girl replied, “When I get to Heaven, I’ll ask Jonah.” “What if Jonah went to hell?” asked the teacher. Th e girl replied, “Th en you ask him!” SMART KID!

occasionally walk around to see each child’s work. As she got to one little girl who was very diligently working, she asked what the drawing represented. Th e girl replied, “I am drawing God.” Th e teacher paused for a moment and then commented, “But no one knows what God looks like.” Without missing a beat or looking up from her wok, she replied, “Th ey will in a minute.” VERY SMART KID

BACK HOME
If I had the power to turn back the clock,Go back to the house at the end of the block--Th e house that was HOME when I was a kid,
I know that I’d love it more than I did.
If I could be back there on my Mother’s knee,And hear once again all the things she told me,
I’d listen as I never listened before,For she knew so well, just what life had in store.
And all the advice my dad used to give,His voice I’ll remember as long as I live; But it didn’t seem really important then; What I’d give just to live it all over again.
And what I’d give for the chance I once had,To do so much more for my mother and dad;To give them more joy and a little less pain;A little more sunshine and a little less rain.
But the years roll on and we cannot go back,Whether we were born in a mansion or in a shack; But we can start right now--in the hour that’s here;To do something more for the ones we hold dear.
And since time in its fl ight is traveling so fast;Let’s not spend it regretting that which is past;
But let’s make tomorrow a happier day;By doing our “good to others” --TODAY.

FreedomBy: James Grengs
Th ey tell me “Freedom is never free.” I know that -More than most realize.Freedom cost us more
Th an we should have to give.Freedom cost us blood.
It cost us the livesOf our fathers,
Our sons,Our brothers.
But while freedom is never free,Remember - It has been bought at great price,
And so is a thing of great value. We must defend it,
From those who would take it away.Th e defense of our freedoms
Will cost us -More than we wish to pay.But we must pay to defend
For if we try to make freedom free,We will forget -
True freedom is never free.

FINANCIAL FOCUS
Protect Yourself Against Financial Scammers It’s unfortunate, but true: During this period of eco-nomic uncertainty, one of the busiest “industries” has been fi nancial scamming. But it goes on even during normal times, too, so you’ll want to know what to look for, and how to defend yourself. For starters, just how widespread is fi nancial fraud? Consider this: In 2019, more than 3.2 million fraud cases were reported to the Federal Trade Commission, with identity theft being the most common type of fraud, accounting for about one-fi ft h of the overall cases. And fraudulent new accounts (mortgages, student loans, car loans and credit cards) amounted to about $3.4 billion in 2018, according to a study by Javelin Strategy & Research.
To help yourself from being victimized, consider the following suggestions. Th ey are certainly not an ex-haustive list, but they should prove useful. • Watch out for unsecure websites. Make sure a website is secure before entering any payment or personal information. Look for sites that start with HTTPS, rather than those with just HTTP, which are not secure and can be hacked. But even a site with HTTPS can still be used by scammers, so, if you don’t recognize the name of the company or group that’s requesting your information, do some research to make sure it’s legitimate.
• Review your credit reports. As mentioned above, the fraudulent opening of new accounts is a big source of fi nancial scams. To be sure nobody has opened new accounts under your name, try to review your credit reports at least once a year. You can get them for free at AnnualCreditReport.com.
• Follow up on fraud. If you’ve already been victimized by having new accounts opened in your name, con-tact one of the three major credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax or TransUnion) and place a 90-day fraud alert on your credit fi le. You might also want to fi le a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, print it out and fi le it with your local law enforcement agency. And it’s also a good idea to contact the fraud department of the fi nancial companies where the thief has opened a fraudulent account in your name.
• Be alert for suspicious links. “Phishers” have gotten quite good at sending out messages that look like they’re from reputable businesses. But if you examine these messages carefully, you can usually determine if there’s something off about them. For example, no legitimate business will tell you, via this type of mes-sage, that you have to “correct your account” by providing additional information. And if you do hit the link provided, and it takes you to a third-party site, you can be pretty sure it’s bogus.
• Resist “act now” off ers. If you get an off er, via phone or online, urging you to “act immediately” on an in-vestment opportunity, discontinue the communication. No reputable fi nancial advisor will ever try to force you to take such swift action, and if an investment is legitimate, it will be available tomorrow, next week and next year.
• Use your shredder. You probably have the option to “go paperless” with all your banks and fi nancial ser-vices providers, but, if you still do receive paper documents, be sure to shred them when they’re no longer needed. You save and invest for years to help achieve your long-term goals. Don’t let any of your eff orts be undone by fi nancial fraudsters.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE 13 FOLDS OF THE UNITED STATES FLAG:
lf you have ever attended a military funeral perhaps you noticed that the honor guards pay meticulous attention to the folding of the U.S. fl ag that once draped the casket.
Crisp precise folds, a total of 13 times to complete the ceremony.
Much like every other aspect of our nation’s greatest symbol, each of the thirteen folds holds a special signifi cance.Th is thirteen-fold procedure was common long before the more modern assigned meanings.
Th e source and data of origin of the meaning is unknown but for those who participate or witness a formal fl ag folding ceremony, whether it be on Flag Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Veterans Day or at a military funeral, the thirteen meanings can create an uplift ing experience.
Flag etiquette dictates that every time an American fl ag is to be stored or presented during a ceremony, its handlers should fold it in half twice lengthwise then starting with the end opposite the blue fi eld make a taut triangular fold.Handlers continue to fold the fl ag in triangles until the fl ag has formed a triangle ``pillow” with the blue fi eld show-ing on the outside.
It is a dignifi ed way to treat the fl ag and gives a powerful touch to ``patriotic” ceremonies.
Th is is what the 13 folds mean:
1. Th e fi rst fold of our fl ag is a symbol of life.2. Th e second fold signifi es our belief in eternal life.3. Th e third fold is made in honor and tribute of the veteran departing our ranks, and who gave a portion of his or her life for the defense of our country to attain peace.4. Th e fourth fold exemplifi es our weaker nature as citizens trusting in God. It is to Him we turn for His divine guidance.5. Th e fi ft h fold is an acknowledgement to our country for the words of Stephen Decatur “Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country right or wrong.”6. Th e sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we Pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all.7. Th e seventh fold is a tribute to our armed forces, for it is through the armed forces that we protect our country and our fl ag against all enemies.8. Th e eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day and to honor our mothers, for whom it fl ies on Mother’s Day.9. Th e ninth fold is in honor to womanhood, for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty, and devotion that the character of men, and who have made this country great, have been molded.10. Th e tenth fold is a tribute to our fathers, for he too has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since he or she was fi rst born.11. Th e eleventh fold in the eyes of Hebrew citizens represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifi es in their eyes the God Of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.12. Th e twelft h fold in the eyes of a Christian citizen represents an emblem of eternity and glorifi es in their eyes God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.13. Th e last fold, when the fl ag is completely folded, shows the stars are uppermost reminding us of our nation’s motto, “In God We Trust.”
