welcome to the Hotel Mioni Royal San****, a place of care and wellbeing for your mind and body.

The hotel is located in Montegrotto Terme in the Euganean Spa Basin, famous all over the world since ancient times for the beneficial properties of the thermal water that flows from its springs.

In our hotel, you will have the opportunity to see first-hand how the biothermal clay and thermal water are really beneficial: it is a completely natural treatment able to face and prevent inflammation for those who regularly stress their muscles and joints during sport activities and for those who want to have some relief from pathologies such as arthrosis, osteo-arthrosis and extra-articular rheumatisms.

Thermal salt-bromine-iodine water is suitable to treat colds, rhinitis, laryngitis and bronchitis.

Before each treatment, you will have to undergo a medical check-up carried out by our doctors specialized in thermal treatments who will also prepare your specific therapeutic plan.

The elements that make up the thermal therapies are water, air and biothermal clay.

Hyper-thermal salt bromine-iodine water flows out at 80° C from deep underground Abano and Montegrotto Terme and then it is mixed in proper tanks, called “fangaie”, together with the natural clay extracted from a small thermal lake in Arquà Petrarca.

That clay was geologically formed 30.000 years ago and it is made of spores of Cyanophyceae and Diatoms microalgae that interact with hyper thermal water and start a colonization process of the clay which is named “maturation”. The maturation process causes the formation of biological and natural active principles such as chlorophyll, phycocyanin, glycolipids, sulfolipids, unsaturated fatty acids and polysaccharides.

By analysing the results obtained in the research and development about the colonization of thermal clay by microalgae issued by prestigious scientific and international journals, scholars could define the production process of clay and consequently they could arrange a “quality certification” of mud. The Hotel Mioni Royal San, a member of the AQUAEHOTELS Consortium, got that quality certification.

The quality control is carried out by a public body, the “Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry of the National Council of Research (CNR) in Padua” that constantly monitors, by random and unscheduled collections the mud and then issues an analysis certificate.

This certified production process has led to the creation of a brand that identifies the Euganean Mud as Euthrophic, Eudermic Euganean Mud (i.e. “F.E.E.E.”) and guarantees the mud’s specified qualities and the therapeutic virtues, both of them scientifically tested and monitored, making it unique in the world. This is the mud we use in our Hotel.

The classic application of F.E.E.E Mud is a transdermal activation process able to convey the bioactive principles to Langerhans cells. The stimulation of this cellular complex affects the Psychoneuroendrocrine Immune System (i.e. PNEI) and has a direct action on the beta endorphins and serotonin that mediate the stress conditions and relieve them.

The F.E.E.E. mud with its liposome complex and essential oils of the thermophilic cyanobacteria is active in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and has a specific dermocosmetic effect on the oxidative stress caused by free radicals that are responsible for skin ageing.

water

Water from the Eugaean Thermal Basin is one-of-a-kind.

Water collects in the pristine basins of the Pre-Alps and, after a long journey in the sub-soil, where it reaches 3.000m of depth for about 30 years, gets to Euganean sources where it gushes out at 87° C. During the journey underground, water is enriched with mineral substances and gas (i.e. sodium, potassium, magnesium, iodine bromine, sili-con and nitrogen) which are fundamental for the production of the microflora that is later used to process the mud.

Water from the Euganean Thermal Basin is considered a salt-bromine-iodine hyper-thermal water because of the elements it is made of and its high temperature.

The latest generation of instruments allow thermal water particles to be nebulized and transformed into an efficient therapy to treat serious or chronic diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tracts.

Inhalation therapies (i.e. inhalations, aerosols, humages and micronized showers) with thermal water have several effects: they stimulate the ciliary apparatus, have an anti-inflammatory action and stimulate the immune system.

Inhalation therapies are suitable for adults and children (from 3 years old).

AEROSOL WITH THERMAL WATER Aerosol with thermal water uses a finer and more homogenous fractioning of thermal water. Water sucked by compressed air is then released under pressure. That way, the particles are broken into homogenous and tiny particles of 2-4 micron, at a temperature di 28-30° C. This is an INDIVIDUAL therapy and is carried out through the mouth or nose by using a mouthpiece or a nose fork. The aerosol is able to get to the deepest airways up to pulmonary alveoli.

Suitable for treating chronic diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract: nose, pharynges, larynges, trachea and bronchial tree.

HUMAGEHumage treatment consists of the inhalation of gas released by thermal water. Compressed air is pushed inside a tank containing thermal water, causing the formation of bubbles that release thermal particles and consequently their gas.

Gas is conveyed into a tube up to the patient’s mask. Humage is a dry inhalation

treatment and it is suitable for getting to the lowest parts of the respiratory tract and the smallest pulmonary alveoli. It is very efficient at treating recurring bronchitis, chronic bronchitis and the symptoms of bronchitis asthma.

MICRONIZED SHOWERS A special device, through its RINO-JET component, releases thermal water, reduced in large size particles (120 micron), at a temperature of about 36° C. Thermal water flows with a light and continuous flow inside the nose cavities and clears the airways (i.e. washing of nose fossae).

This abundant flow of thermal water particles fluidify secretions in the nasal fossae and in the rhinopharynx and pharynx regions. Micronized showers are very efficient at alleviating the symptoms of sinusitis and rhinitis and increase even the effects of traditional treatments such as antibiotics or nasal steroids.

This treatment is generally well tolerated by young children too and it is very useful in treating the pathologies of the middle ear.

the clay

Bio-thermal clay is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

It is commonly believed that mud efficiency is linked to temperature, but studies have demonstrated that another factor of organic origin is responsible for its effectiveness.

Mud is immersed in proper tanks and it is covered with thermal water at a constant temperature of 35-38° C for about 60 days. During that time, the sun irradiation also creates the perfect condition for the development of a special superficial biofilm comprised of unicellular microorganisms, mainly cyanobacteria and diatoms, able to produce active principles with high anti-inflammatory properties equal to those of pharmaceuticals but without their side effects. That is why thermal mud is suitable for treating inflammations and diseases such as arthrosis, osteo-arthrosis and extra articular rheumatisms. Thermal mud is recommended not only for treating these diseases, but also for their prevention and for all those active in sports.
