The Country scale - version one video lesson one © Stuart Ryan 2012 This first version of the country scale is basically a g major pentatonic scale with the addition of a minor third (in the key of g this is the b flat). The inclusion of both the major and minor third in the scale is one of the defining factors in the sound of country guitar soloing. You can think of this scale in several ways - firstly it is a g major pentatonic scale with a minor third added (g, a, b flat, b, d, e) or secondly as an e blues scale starting from the second note in the scale (in this case g). suggested fingerings are included but feel free to change them! fingering 1 fingering 2 fingering 3
