The Universal disposable pneumatic tourniquet cuff systems are suitable for use in all procedures and designed to minimise cross infection risks by being true single-use products. They are applied to the patient using a strong adhesive single-use fastener, which must be cut off for removal from the patient following completion of the procedure. The single-use adhesive band completely eliminates the possibility of re-use of the tourniquet. The cuffs should always be applied correctly using cuff padding and ensuring that prep solutions do not migrate under the cuff.
AUNIPREP TOURNIQUET DRAPE
The UniPrep drape is an integral precaution designed to prevent prep solutions migrating under the tourniquet cuff and potentially causing burns and/or an infection risk to the patient.
Designed with reference to NHS safety notice SAN(SC)99/33 Medical Devices - Surgical cuffs - risk of burns: it is manufactured from a latex free material that enables it to stretch, without applying additional pressure to the limb when fitted correctly.

UNISLEEVE TOURNIQUET & COVER
Once removed from the patient, the disposable sleeve is simply slid off the bladder and discarded. The bladder is then cleaned with a hard surface cleaner ready for insertion into the next UniSleeve. Each bladder has been designed for cleaning and re-use up to 50 times.
It is a simple system to adopt - each UniSleeve pack contains one bladder and 50 sleeves, making it easy to keep track of bladder re-usage. Bladders are colour coded to match the sleeves of the correct size and use white plastic quick release connectors.

CLEAR VIEW STERILISATION POUCHES
Self-sealing sterilisaton pouches feature a double adhesive strip seal for added safety and security of the contents. They provide three major benefits to the sterilisation process;
• Sterility, a white indicator strip on each pouch clearly confirms the sterility on the instrument inside by changing to brown.
• They are simple to use, place the item in the pouch and seal by hand. The see through front panel enables easy identification of the products inside.
• They are economical, there is no need for costly sealing equipment or time consuming wrapping and packing techniques.
The clear pouch front is backed with medical grade paper providing good wet strength properties for steam sterilisation. These are suitable for use with ethylene oxide gas or steam sterilisation.

SHARPS DISPOSAL SYSTEMS
A simple and safe way for the collection and disposal of used blades and other sharps. The adhesive pads hold needles and/or blades to minimise accidental contact. Choose from the Universal DisGard Pad, the Safety Box System or the Universal Protecta Pad. All are recommended for use in operating theatres, general medical wards, A&E and ICU. In addition, the use of anti-stick needle systems enhances audit and control procedures in operating theatres, general medical wards, A&E and critical care areas.

DISGARD SHARPS PAD
An anti-needle stick system, designed for the safe disposal of blades and needles after use. Universal DisGard is a robust clear plastic hinged wallet, with an adhesive pad inside to store and hold needles and/or blades. Once correctly closed, the adhesive coating around the perimeter permanently closes the pad preventing injury from the sharps instruments and retaining all fluids inside.
SHARPS SAFETY BOX
Sharps safety box enables the safe collection and disposal of used blades, suture needles and other sharps. The strong adhesive pad inside retains sharps and giving clear visual control to users at all times. Fluids are retained on closure.

PARTICULATE FILTER RESPIRATORS USER GUIDE
UniProtect™
particulate
respirators are
recommended
for use where
protection of
the respiratory
system is
essential.
Selecting the Right Respirator
UniProtect™ respirators feature;
• A large breathing chamber to create a cooler air exchange and help hold the mask away from
the face for wearer comfort and ease of speech
• A natural anti-fog seal and the soft inner facing layer that minimises discomfort.
• All respirators are individually CE marked and BS EN 149:2001 compliant.
P2 Respirators;
• Are recommended by the WHO for SARS and Avian Flu related outbreaks.
P3 Respirators;
• Meet the requirements specified in the NICE guidance for protection against tuberculosis.
• Comply with HPA guidance on Avian Flu and HSE recommendations for biological agents in
healthcare laboratories.
• Are suitable for use to filter out particulates found in surgical smoke or laser plume.
In addition, P3 Valved Respirators help to reduce the build up of heat which makes breathing
easier. This is useful when worn for longer periods of time or when used in warm environments or
those with elevated humidity.
The EN149: 2001 testing regime for respirators involves challenging the respirators with 0.6
micron particles of sodium chloride to determine their classification (FFP1, P2 or P3).
Respirators with PFEs exceeding 98% are FFP3. The testing measures the % of sodium chloride
particulates filtered by the respirator and uses significantly higher volumes of air compared to that
used for face mask testing.
Fit is very important. Respirators
must seal tightly to the face or air
will enter from the sides.
The ACoPS (Approved Code of Practice)
supporting the COSHH, CLAW and CAR
recommend that tight fitting respiratory
protective equipment (RPE) must be fit tested
as part of the selection process. This is to
ensure the selected RPE has the potential to
provide adequate protection for the wearer
(L5 paragraph 150, L143 paragraph 196 and
L132 paragraph 133). The ACoPS has legal
meaning: if you follow the advice, you will be
doing enough to comply with the law.
Shermond can provide a fit testing service
and/or training.
