IMPORTANT “STEPS”: Almost 50 years ago,

the beautiful Carnegie Library in Great Falls

was torn down to make way for the library

we have today.

Historic interior stone steps from that

Library, stored with the City for 48 years, are

being honored again in a new way - as

Learning Center and Orchard Benches in the

2.2 acre Westside Orchard Garden at 400

16th St. SW in Great Falls, MT.

At the Westside Orchard Garden, we grow

fresh produce for:

Head Start Program Boys & Girls Club Meals on Wheels Community Rec Center

The Garden is also a “growing place” for

kids and adults to learn about gardening,

healthy eating, composting, worms, and

playing in the dirt! The summer of 2014

kids grew in the Garden 5 days a week.

The steps from the Carnegie Library are

being “repurposed” as benches in the

Garden, raising funds to help support

expanded growing for these groups.

In their own words:

“Cherry tomatoes are my favorite snack now!” 7yr. old Boys & Girls Club 2nd grader

“Our Head Start families love all the fresh food you bring to us!”

Library Steps

to

Learning Benches

What a wonderful opportunity

to honor a special person,

family, business, or pet by

sponsoring a bench. The benches

will be placed throughout the

Westside Orchard Garden to be

used by everyone who visits -

whether it’s to volunteer, sit

under a tree, have a picnic, or

just enjoy a sunset.

Your purchase of a commemorative

plaque for one of the Carnegie

Benches in the Garden will support

this important local program.

Reserve your bench

and choose your spot

in the Garden!

The Westside Orchard Garden is

managed by Sunburst Unlimited, Inc.,

a local nonprofit (Gardens from

Garbage). Ownership remains with

the City of Great Falls. The Carnegie

Benches will be permanently

installed in the Garden, and remain

the property of the City.
