Of course, it’s paranoid to think that. What they are really doing is cashing in on the troubling but true fact that people, as much as they complain about it, tune in for bad news more than for good. And the news outlets are glad to deliver! When it comes to Christmas, they dish up a lot of disturbing stories about clerks who can’t say “Merry Christmas,” schools who are picked on by the ACLU for having something remotely religious in their “holiday” programs, and Christmas shoppers who cause fatal stampedes just to save some money on a flat-screen TV. So, sometimes we buy into this, as many people say that they will be glad when it’s all over. But I’m here to say that it’s still possible to feel joy at Christmas! Sure, it isn’t like it was when you were a kid, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t do something about that in your own home. You don’t have to have everything perfect like some picture from Good Housekeeping. And, you don’t have to spend much money to make it meaningful. In fact, the less money you spend, probably the better. Here are some helpful tips: 1. Decide right now that you will look for beauty this season instead of ugliness. Beauty is all around you, in people and in things. You just have to allow yourself to see it. 2. Make reading the Christmas story a part of your family’s time together. Just screech everything to a halt and take time to hear once again the reason all this started in the first place. 3. Think of gifts as tokens to reflect the love that God has for us, not as ways of going broke over things you can’t afford. In other words, own some things – don’t let them own you. It’s just stuff. 4. Think of what you can do for someone else. If you consciously do this throughout the season, you won’t have time to think dark thoughts. You’ll be having too much fun. 5. Go to Christmas Eve worship at Trinity (3:30 and 5:30), or somewhere else if you are traveling. It just feels good to get your mind out of your world and into the greater world of your faith. So, with these tips in mind, and anything else you can think of, I wish you a very blessed Christmas. And may you experience the grace of God more than ever before in the new year. “Happy Birthday to You” Can you imagine being invited to a birthday party and they guest of honor is not there? Who would you sing to? Who would you celebrate? I think that all to often people forget to invite Jesus to his own birthday party! “You can’t have a birthday

party without the guest of honor.” And he certainly is a guest of honor! I think people get so wrapped up in the commercialization of Christmas they lose sight of the real reason for the celebration. Think about it….How many of us literally spend way over our budgets at Christmas? And shopping...oh my goodness. People will risk life and limb to get a great deal on a t.v. I think many of us have such an abundance of food and goodies in our home this time of year that they would last us until summer! We are blessed with such abundance in our lives. John 10: 10 says...I have come that you may have life, and have it abundantly! We are given SO much already. And yet we want more, don’t we? May your Christmas celebration be full of love and abundance that the Lord provides us. And remember to make Him the guest of honor! Happy Birthday to you...Happy

Birthday to you...Happy Birthday dear…..Jesus, Happy Birthday to you!

Movie Night!!!

Kari Werth; one of our confirmation mentors, recently went to Uganda with the New Horizon’s Adoption agency. While there, Kari got to spend time in an orphanage taking care of the children. I invited her to come to 7up and to talk to the kids about her trip. She did a fantastic job of sharing about her unforgettable experiences and how she

came home having fallen in love with the children. I can’t imagine how hard it would have been to leave them! She told us that the kids in the orphanage don’t get Christmas gifts and she would love to send them something. So, we started thinking about how we could help. First, we thought about mailing them each a coloring book and colors. Then she informed us how much shipping is. So, we have decided to take an offering during coffee hour on Dec. 9th that Kari will wire directly to the orphanage so that they can buy the children something for Christmas.

Please meet at Trinity at 2 p.m.

Families are invited and encouraged to come with !

Acts 20:35 35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
