PREPARING FOR PROM

The dress, the date, the dance--they’re all one hears about the

month before prom. Yet, more than just a month goes into the preparation: the process actually began a year ago. Student Council members met countless times with moderator Mrs. Virginia Burd, assistant principal Mr. Jerry Kerrigan, and ultimately, the people at Francesco’s. As Student Council Offi cer Kate Barelli said, “[We] went to visit locations, taste test food, meet with fl orists, and ran it all by Mr. Kerrigan, down to the last detail to make sure the night would be perfect.” The night was defi nitely perfect. Between the dinner with the slide show, the dance with the band, the DJ, and Mr. Paul Vogrinc performing-- this year’s seniors got it all. Katherine Foster said, “I liked the slide show that was put together and that the dinner and dance was all in one. It made it more fun to get to see everyone and say hi before the dancing started.” Ben Black added, “I loved Men of Our Times. I thought they were great. They played music we knew and we could dance and sing too.” Others went above and beyond to make the night special. Senior Amber Sallis rode to the dance in a horse and carriage: “I felt like a celebrity. People were running outside of their homes taking pictures and waving. We rode a long way and everyone was smiling and taking videos of us. It was an amazing experience.” Horse and carriage or not, the seniors collectively had a wonderful experience. Barelli said, “Based on the empty seats when the music played, the full room until the end of the night, and all the sweating faces, I think [the night] was an absolute success!

STUDENTS SHOW CASETALENT AT FINE ARTS FAIR

Boylan’s Fine Arts Fair is a tradition that has gone on for years. Every

spring our school showcases the talent of its students in the fi elds of music, art, home economics, poetry and industrial technology. While many students received awards for their outstanding aptitude, all those whose work was featured deserved to be recognized. The art displays in the main gym garnered the most attention, with the senior art portfolios taking center stage. Each portfolio was a presentation of each artist’s best works, set against a background with the artist’s name elaborately designed at the top. Liz Woolf, a Boylan alumnus, judged both the setup and body of each stand and then named the top four artists out of twenty-four: Mallery Myers in fourth place, Illiana Durbin in third, Megan Schneider in second, and Claire Strominger in fi rst. When asked if she had at all expected to win, Claire said she hadn’t really: “Part of me was hoping I would win, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if someone else got fi rst because there’s so much talent in this class.” The seniors all stayed with their exhibits while spectators observed and offered their opinions on their work. Illiana Durbin said all the attention “made me feel really good about my artwork.” Of course, the seniors were not the only ones whose artistic promise was shown off; all levels of Boylan’s artistic education were displayed. The western side of the gym was full of Art 1 projects, featuring techniques such as the endless line drawing and the oil pastel still life, and on the other side were creations by Art 2 and 3 students, such as self-portraits. Meanwhile in the auditorium, the music program was putting on its own show. Four bands and two choirs, under the direction of Miss Mecadon and Mr. Myers, all performed remarkably well as usual. Each group performed

music it had already performed at some point in the school year,

though some prepared new songs specifi cally for the fair. The four bands were Guitar Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band and Jazz Lab; and the two choirs were Treble Choir and Vocce – Concert Choir and Octaves would perform later that night. In the auxiliary gym, the industrial technology department was presenting architectural and other building projects. Up in the balconies of the main gym above the art displays were clothing displays, created by students of Boylan’s home economics classes of all levels. Another demonstration of artistry was taking place in the library. Of the roughly 270 entries in the 15th annual Fine Arts Fair Poetry contest, twenty students –fi ve from each grade – were chosen as fi nalists. The freshmen chosen were Alexis Montoya, Jenna Vathakos, Ashley Volkert, Tess Vrbin, and Abby Wedoff; the sophomores were Christian Antonacci, Jennifer Bauer, Lizzy Chiodini, Anna Girgenti, and Andrew Hazen; the juniors were Ben Belford, Colleen Crooks, Grace Heim, Christine White, and Jeremi Zuba; and the seniors were Katie Day, Austin Laue, Megan Schneider, Gabriel Smith, and Emily Way. The contest was judged by Sarah May, who is not only a Boylan alum and the daughter of Boylan teachers Mr. and Mrs. May but also a two-time winner of the fair’s poetry contest. Her choice as fi rst-prize winner would receive fi fty dollars, and the honorable mention winner would receive twenty-fi ve. After each fi nalist

performed his or her poem out loud in front the judge and audience, Miss May chose Emily Way’s “Industrious Rains” as the number one poem and Anna Girgenti’s “The Art Museum” as an honorable mention. The awards did not end there: Advancement Director, Mrs. Lynn McConville, awarded Ben Belford’s poem “Ode to the Truck” the Robert Collins Award, a $500 tuition grant. The rest of the fi nalists received a prize of ten dollars for being selected to read their poems. The Fine Arts Fair was hugely successful in both attendance and recognition. The displays of the exceptional talent of Boylan’s students in multiple artistic fi elds magnifi ed not only the excellence of our school’s artistic education programs, but also the incredible potential of those students featured. What they will create in the future is a mystery and a story waiting to happen.

Boylan’s fourth annual Book Fair at Barnes and Noble took place on May 12th, the day before Mother’s Day, at

a time when Barnes and Noble was busier than ever. Boylan students were in and out of the store throughout the day, both supporting the school with their purchases and providing entertainment. Boylan’s Jazz Band began them musical entertainment at 10am, Octaves performed at noon, and Vocce concluded with their 7pm performance. Junior Book Club members Emily Jelinek and Jada Hauser also contributed to the entertainment, having story time and doing crafts with children in the afternoon. Other students manned the gift-wrapping table, and a number of teachers took shifts throughout the day supervising and handing out chocolates and homework passes. A percentage of all the purchases made by those who wished to support the school went to the Boylan library, and even the café joined in the fun, concocting a special Boylanicious Titan Chocolate Frappuchino for the fair. The fair was a great opportunity to purchase last minute mother’s day gifts and support the school while enjoying performances by Boylan students.

TITAN SUMMER 2012

BOYLAN BOOK FAIR: A DAY OF SHOPPING,

MUSIC AND FUNThe sun is out, which

means the Boylan Titans are ready for school to be out. Everyone is eager to have another amazing summer together. There are many plans made and students are ready to have fun. A few of our fellow Titans were happy to share their feelings towards summer coming so fast and upcoming summer plans: “I cannot wait to get out of school. The idea of being able to do basically whatever you want whenever you want is probably one of the most appealing things to me about summer. Not being tied down every night by homework or tests the next day or week, and also not having to go to bed at a decent time in order to be able to focus the next day. My summer plans consist of hanging out by the pool, with lots of bonfi res, cook outs, and quality time with family and friends.” Lindsay Herra, a junior says, “I’m defi nitely looking forward to summer & especially ready for a nice long break. I plan on spending my long summer days playing volleyball and throwing, participating in Iron Titans, volunteering at the animal shelter, and of course soaking up the hot summer sun... with lovely summer assignments as well.” The class of 2012’s time has come to fi nally say goodbye to Boylan. They are all about to come face to face with a new chapter

in their lives. Senior Joe Bradel said, “I plan on playing shows with my band and selling our CD. I am looking forward to college. I will be going to Wisconsin and Canada for the summer. I feel both sad and excited that I am offi cially leaving Boylan. I will miss my friends and teachers but I will be excited to move on to the next stage of my life. Mallery Myers, also a senior says, “I plan to spend a lot of time with friends and have a great time before everyone goes off to college. I know that I probably won’t see the majority of my friends much next year so I want to make lots of memories to always look back on this summer. I am very excited to go to college and start over. Being completely done with Boylan is bittersweet but I’m ready for a change.” Most students at Boylan will be back after the summer ends, but for the seniors it is a bittersweet goodbye to the Boylan we all came to love. Summer 2012 is going to be amazing and I’m sure everyone is just so excited to let it begin!

Another regular season is in the books for the girls soccer team and what a stellar season it was for the Lady Titans. Boylan fi nished at top of the NIC-.10 standings this spring by going undefeated( 9-0) in confer-ence play and fi nished with a record of 19-1-2. Last year they tied for fi rst with Hononegah, and this year they had the top spot all to themselves. It was the third season in fi ve years that the Lady Titans were able to go undefeated. Led

by a group of talented seniors alongside contributing juniors

and under classman, the lady titans improved as the season went on. With a healthy Shelby Sonnefeldt in goal and solid defense, the girls were able to win some games with ease by shut-ting out their opponent. Shelby and freshman goalkeeper, Sarah Dobro-wolski, only allowed a total of 11 goals all year long. With that stat in mind and some of the top leading scorers in the conference such as junior Abby Reed, sophomore Sydney Wright, and Senior Sutton Wester, one can see why the lady titans accomplished so much this season.

The team started conference play strong with a shut out 7-0 vic-tory against Guilford and ended it with similar fashion with a 8-0 victory against Belvidere. The Lady Titans look to continue their success as Boy-lan hosts the regional and sectional playoff games this playoff season. With a loss against rival Hononegah last year, the girls look to avenge that loss and take every game one at a time with the hope of moving on.

For the fourth year in a row the Boylan boys’ tennis team has

risen above all expectations and captured the NIC-10 conference title. The Titans seized a narrow victory in the tournament, held at Guilford on May 11th and 12th, over the rival Guilford Vikings. Guilford’s team had unprecedented depth, with talented players in all spots, but Guilford’s best was not enough to overcome Boylan’s best. While Guilford took fi rst in the number two singles and number two doubles spots, the Vikings did not make it to the fi nals in number one singles and doubles. Instead Auburn faced off against Boylan in the fi nals for these top positions, and Boylan emerged victorious. Boylan’s juniors Adam Dahlberg and Nate Muldowney won a decisive victory against Auburn’s one doubles team. While Boylan’s one doubles player Max Samstag lost in the fi nals to Auburn’s Branden Metzler, Max put up a formidable fi ght. No other team, however, could touch Boylan’s

achievement of making it to the fi nal round in every spot. Throughout the season the Titan tennis team met with similar success, fi nishing with an 8-1 record for dual meets. Boylan’s only loss was to Guilford by a narrow margin, but the Titans made up for this defeat with their performance in the conference tournament. Both the number one singles and number one doubles teams went undefeated for the entire season in conference, and one doubles experienced only one loss outside of conference. Boylan’s squad was bolstered by the unexpected addition of juniors Nate Muldowney and Max Samstag to the team this year, both of whom have proved invaluable assets to the team. Muldowney came out for tennis for the fi rst time this year and has occupied a top spot all season. Samstag, a German foreign exchange student, has proven himself as one of the best singles players in all northern Illinois. The tennis team now looks

forward to the sectional and state tournaments in the weeks to come. The lineup will likely change for sectionals in such a way as to qualify the most possible players for state. The top two doubles teams and singles players in the sectional tournament advance to the IHSA state tournament. Last year Boylan sent several players to state, and this year it seems likely that at least one doubles team will qualify. Only two seniors made the tennis team this season, Austin Laue and Kevin Beckett. Both have been valuable players, but the majority of the team is juniors. The two seniors, along with junior Samstag, who will return to Germany, will be greatly missed next year. However, the Titans have remarkable depth that stretches across class boundaries, and with only three players leaving another conference victory next year seems within reach.

The boys’ track team broke many records during this season, and according to Jonah Niedermeier, “a

defi nite highlight was when we got 4th in conference.” Niedermeier, Ben Black, Kyle Beckett, and Mark Miller were part of the Boylan record setting “4 by mile” team. Also, the distance team broke the “Distance Medley Relay” record. Those members included Ben Black, Mark Miller, Kyle Beckett, and Jim Warren. There many other records and PRs (personal records) broken as well. Nathan Kimbrell ran a 2:01 in the 800 meter and Kyle Beckett ran the 2 mile in 10 minutes. Another big accomplishment was when Ryan Moore broke the state qualifying time for the 100 meter dash. According to Coach Pat Keehnen, “The season as a whole was fun. Watching the joy of a person after they achieve a goal they had set was probably the most gratifying for me. Many of these guys worked months to get there and didn’t shy away from any challenges. We all hope to see more athletes participating next year. We have a great bunch of guys returning and look to build on that.”

The varsity baseball coaches, Mr. Chris Rozanski, Mr. Derek Barrone, and Mr. Dennis Garvin, and team

members have put in hours of training in order to win as many games as they have. The varsity baseball team has just one loss in conference and is in fi rst place on route to a conference title. The team practices every day of the week from the beginning of seventh hour until about 4:30. Danny Kagan suggests that anyone hoping to make the team should “work hard on the fundamentals in the offseason. The freshman coaches want a kid who can do the simple things such as run and fi eld.” Aside from the hard work the team puts in, they also manage to have fun. Every day, the team usually comes up with something comedic. “With guys like Joe Kubera and Zach Stoner, one would be hard pressed to fi nd a practice/game when we weren’t laughing at some point,” Kagan said. Seniors on the team include Zach Stoner, Bryan Engelsen, Joe Kubera, Danny Kagan, Jake Nunez, Matt Nunez, Ben Eckburg, Adonis Brown, and Conor Jansen. Stoner will play baseball for Southern Illinois University, Kubera will play at Winona State, and Engelsen will play for Judson University.

Starting in early March, Boylan’s varsity softball team started practicing for the 2012 season.

Now, two months of hard work later, the season is coming to an end. Team captains Katelyn Maragi and Claire Custer joined with coaches Mr. Brad Frisch and Mrs. Mary Ellen Hazen to lead the team to a successful season, despite facing tough competition from Hononegah and Belvidere North. “We lost to Belvidere North the fi rst time we played them, but we beat them the second time. Now we play them in the fi rst game of regionals so it should a good game,” said catcher Darby Marinelli.

A lthough the Boylan girls’ track team was fairly young this year, inexperience did not prevent them from a

successful season. Head coach Mrs. Linda Schmitt was satisfi ed with the season, commenting that the team did “very well for being so young.” Led by all-conference junior Lindsay Herra and honorable mentions senior Leah Manns, sophomore Dierdra Coyle, and freshman Erica Lowry, the team took fourth place in conference. Individually, Manns excelled in the 100 while Coyle specialized in the 2 mile and Lowry was best in distance running. Hera, however, was the most successful, being ranked second in the entire state for shot and discuss, as well as being the only member of the team to make it to state. Even though the girls will be without Manns next year, the team has much potential that may well translate into success in the coming years. The team will also be without assistant coach Mrs. Trish Arnold next year. Although the girls will miss her, they will take the lessons she taught them with them in the coming years. Junior Ally Moir recounted “Mrs. Arnold contributed so much positive energy to the team… she knew how to make practices fun, yet productive and, more than anything, she believed in us and inspired us to fi ght even harder.” As The Titan Tribune went to press, Boylan received word that Lindsay Herra earned the school’s fi rst state track title with her outstanding performance with the discus. Congratulations, Lindsay!

KOCHI JAPAN:ROCKFORD’S NEWEST HIBACHI RESTAURANT

Ask any Rockfordian what his or her favorite restaurant

is and one of the most likely responses is JMK Nippon. The upscale Japanese grill has established itself as a Rockford icon over the past forty years, and it seems almost everyone in town has dined at JMK on at least one occasion. Shogun, a similar hibachi-style restaurant, also has a following among Rockford residents. Yet overall Rockford’s restaurant scene is decidedly limited in variety and cultural diversity. Is there room for another Japanese hibachi restaurant in our area? The founders of Kochi Japan, a Japanese grill in the style of JMK, think so. Hoping to capture a portion of the market share from JMK, a group of northern Illinois restaurateurs opened Kochi four months ago near East State and Perryville. Thus far Kochi does not seem to have established a base of patrons as faithful as those of its local competitors: it is almost impossible to get into JMK without a reservation, while Kochi seems to always have open tables. This lack of popularity seems undeserved given that Kochi’s food is, in my opinion, easily as good as JMK’s. Upon entering Kochi one is struck with the impression that it is simply a JMK clone: dark, formal ambiance, Japanese decor, and a large, open dining area filled with hibachi tables. Indeed, the dining experience is very similar. Kochi offers a full selection of sushi, and while I am no sushi connoisseur, the California roll with cucumber, avocado, and crab meat was delicious. The vegetable tempura appetizer was deliciously light and

flaky. Chefs prepare meals of rice,

vegetables, and meat in front of patrons seated at the hibachi tables. The chefs are friendly and talented, performing stunning feats of cutlery juggling and culinary pyrotechnics. My chef began by expertly preparing well-seasoned fried rice and a colorful mix of grilled vegetables, all of which were as good or better than JMK’s. I ordered chicken and shrimp for my entree. Both were tender and well-done but not as flavorful as those of similar restaurants. The meal was served with two sauces for dipping, a soy ginger and hot mustard. For dessert, Kochi, like many Japanese restaurants, offers a treat called mochi. Mochi consists of a ball of ice cream coated in a traditional Japanese rice cake dough. Kochi’s mochis were the best of all those I have tried. Overall Kochi Japan offers a pleasant dining experience much like that of JMK or Shogun. Prices are a bit high but expected for a restaurant of such caliber. If you are burnt out on Rockford’s existing Japanese establishments I highly recommend you give Kochi a try-- it may just be your new favorite restaurant.

THE LUCKY ONE MOVIE REVIEW

The Lucky One appears at first to be another sappy, romantic

drama in the tradition of The Notebook; at least that’s what I thought before I saw the film. I cannot believe I’m going to say this, as it will result in yet another suspension of my man-card, The Lucky One was a good film. There, I said it; feel free to tease me mercilessly. But before I go any further I must make it clear that I’m not going to say anything corny like “chick flicks are for guys too” or “it’s ok to see this alone if you’re a guy.” It’s not. Do not see this film without a member of the female sex, as it is very embarrassing and ended up taking away my last shred of self-respect.

The Lucky One is the newest film adaptation of the ever-popular Nicholas Sparks’ title of the same name. Its opening is creative, but ends up falling into the familiar Sparks’ pattern of chance love and romantic settings. The movie stars Zac Efron’s biceps as the Marine Logan who is paired with a dog kennel-owner named Beth played by Taylor Schilling. Logan’s life is saved by a picture of Beth in Iraq and he embarks on a journey to find the woman in his “good luck charm.” Beth has troubles of her own. She’s a single mother with an alcoholic for an ex-husband (Jay Ferguson) and a wisecracking nana (Blythe Danner). Her life takes a turn when she meets a stranger who has been walking around with a photograph of her for years and she finds love.

Zac Efron has come a long way since High School Musical. His acting is (‘gulp’) powerful and he does an excellent job of avoiding the normally cocky male leads of other romances. Efron

comes across as a strong, quiet, and deeply loyal multifaceted character. I felt he went so far as to dwarf Schilling’s performance, which was substantially weaker. I understand that being a single mom and dealing with an alcoholic ex is difficult to say the least, but Schilling’s character Beth was on an emotional roller-coaster. I find it hard to believe that a guy with Zac Efron’s good looks would fall for a troubled woman like Beth, but Sparks has made crazier things happen, like finding a love letter in a bottle on a beach. Thankfully, Schilling is supported, both in acting and in the story, by her son, Ben (Riley Stewart) and the nanny. The two function as the comic relief for Spark’s steamy romance. Danner is flat out hilarious and her humor appeals to a mature audience while Ben satisfies the “cute” humor that will make everyone laugh. Both were stellar and helped alleviate the self-degradation of seeing this film alone.

I could go on praising this film. The directing, by Scott

Hicks, was spot on. Nicholas Sparks’ writing was, amazing and his dialogue, though sometimes cliché, was fresh for a romance. The acting, with the exception of Schilling, was enthralling. Though The Lucky One fails to compare to other romances like The Artist and Titanic, it truly stands a cut above the rest with respect to other romantic dramas. I do recommend seeing this movie, but if you are a male, make certain that you view in the presence of a female- even if you take your sister or your mom. None of you will be disappointed.

For years, Marvel fans have been awaiting a fi lm that would bring

all their favorite superheroes togeth-er. With subtle hints throughout pre-vious fi lms like Iron Man and Thor, all fans could do was to wait and see if their hopes would come true; and on May 4, 2012, director Joss Whe-don delivered what I would call one of the best movies of the year. With a spectacular performance from an all-star cast, The Avengers went above and beyond my expectations. The story begins with Loki, the Norse god of mischief and decep-tion, (played by Tom Hiddleston), breaking into a secure S.H.I.E.L.D. facility to steal the Tesseract, a myste-rious artifact of unimaginable power, which fans may remember from Cap-tain America in 2011. S.H.I.E.L.D. is a secret organization designed to preserve and protect human life on earth, by any means necessary. Its director, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) must then call together the world’s mightiest heroes to stop Loki and his army from conquering the world. Familiar faces from past Marvel fi lms return as well. Rob-ert Downey Jr. returns as the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark, otherwise known as Iron Man. Chris Hemsworth comes back as the mighty Thor, the Norse god of thunder. Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers, better known as Captain

America. Although Edward Norton, who played Bruce Banner in the previous Incredible Hulk fi lms didn’t return to the big screen, his replace-ment, Mark Ruffalo, did an excel-lent job as the big green monster. In addition to the returning stars, new heroes from the Marvel universe rose to join the fi ght. Scarlet Johans-son stars as the beautiful but deadly Natasha Romanoff, or Black Widow, and Jeremy Renner plays the sharp-shooting Clint Barton, or Hawkeye. After seeing this movie twice already, I have to say it blew me away completely. From the Hulk’s trans-formation and the monsters of Loki’s army, to the high tech Iron Man suit and Thor’s magic, the special ef-fects were magnifi cent. I was on the edge of my seat the entire length of the two and a half hour fi lm. Even though the fi lm was highly action packed, the story was conveyed very well, and there were even moments of comic relief. As always, in every other Marvel fi lm, Stan Lee, creator of Marvel, has a cameo. I saw the fi lm in 3D and that made it all the better. The Avengers raked in over $80 mil-lion on opening night. It made more money on its opening weekend than the Harry Potter fi nale and The Dark Knight. Even if you aren’t big into comic books, The Avengers makes for a perfect way to enjoy a Friday night.

Jason Mraz is famous for his song “I’m Yours” and his soulful music. Last April Jason Mraz came out with his new album “Love Is A Four Letter Word” and it has been very successful. His sound continues to be a mix of alternative pop and classic rock. Before Jason Mraz’s latest album came out, he put out a single called “I Won’t Give Up”. This particular song graced the top ten charts for a good amount of time and is my personal favorite. This album in my opinion is a very sooth-ing and relaxing group of Jason Mraz’s newest songs. I would say this album is a great one to listen to while studying. It has mellow songs that can help you focus on your fun school work! A senior, Austin Laue says, “Jason’s music really soothes my soul. I think his new album re-ally epitomizes his spirit and pas-sion.” I highly recommend you all to check out Jason Mraz’s newest album, Love Is A Four Letter Word!

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR:Ben Belford

I recently stumbled upon Shel Silverstein’s poem titled “The Search”

After reading this poem, I thought that it fi t our school in a variety of ways. For seniors, the transition into college becomes their next adventure. With the recent

completion of their exams and graduation, many of them probably feel like they have been searching for four years to get to their pot of gold, also known as a diploma. Some of our teachers are leaving this school year. Whether it is due to retirement, job transfers, or new challenges, all of these individuals will now be on a new search. But what about those that return to Boylan? “What do I search for now?” Besides the fact that underclassmen are one year closer to their pot of gold, are there other motivations for next school year? Another state title in athletics? Trying out for one of the

musicals? Asking a classmate to homecoming? Improving grades? Improving attitudes? This list goes on and on, personalized to fi t any student or teacher. Congratulations on completing another school year. You should be proud of ALL of your accomplishments this school year (you too teachers!). Like Mark Scharenbroich (the Boom-Bah Hey guy) eluded to earlier this year: Juniors-You’re now seniors; Sophomores-Now you are upperclassmen; Freshmen-You’re out of the balcony. “What do I search for now?” Go Titans! LETTER FROM THE MODERATOR:MRS. TRICIA ROZANSKI

This is it. The seniors are gone, the hallways are emptier, there are only a few days of school left, and this is the last issue of the Titan Tribune for the 2011-2012 school year. Another chapter of all of our high school careers has come to an end, but with it comes new beginnings.

It is a time of both sadness and joy. No doubt all are upset to see the Class of 2012 leave Boylan forever. Those seniors were friends and guides to everyone in the school. Now the junior class rises up to take their place. It is hard to believe that we juniors are already so close to fi nishing high school; just days ago senior year

seemed an unreachable point in the distant future. Now we are faced with new responsibilities, but I am confi dent that theClass of 2013 has the dedication and talent to successfully lead Boylan through another year.

With the end of another school year comes the joy of summer. In just a few short days the bell will ring for the last time and we will have three months of freedom. Summer will no doubt be busy for most students, with sports, work, and college visits, but hopefully everyone has a chance to relax as well. High school can be a very stressful time, I know.

This issue, our last of the year, is my fi rst as editor-in-chief of the Titan Tribune. I am honored to have been selected for this position and hope that I may fulfi ll my responsibilities with the same dedication as my predecessor, Jill Deutsch. I believe the newspaper, though it may not always seem so, plays an important role in our school: it brings attention to people and events which are often overlooked and underappreciated. We all work hard and we all deserve recognition.

For now, however, we have all earned a break from school. And so I wish all a safe, happy, and relaxing summer vacation. God bless.
