My Fellow Members

Allow me to thank you for returning me unopposed as your President for another year. I am grateful for your trust and confidence.

As you know, Sadiq Zoeb our Hon Treasurer and Nan Sandford did not stand for re-election to the GC. Sadiq told me that he has undertaken new commitments which will make it difficult for him to continue as Treasurer. On behalf of the Club, I wish to thank Sadiq for the professional, conscientious and courteous manner in which he discharged the duties of his office. Thank you, Sadiq. I hope that in the not too distant future, circumstances permitting, you will again offer to serve the Club.

Instead of being a member of the GC, Nan would prefer to spend her time looking after our many overseas visitors and helping new Members adjust to Club life. On behalf of Members, I wish to thank Nan for a lifetime of service, dedication and loyalty to the Club. Thank you, Nan. I am pleased to inform Members that the GC has appointed Nan to the honorary position of Adviser, Club Relations. In that new role, Nan will continue the good work in taking care of our overseas visitors and new Members, something she has been doing for the last 50 or 60 years. Nan has agreed to the appointment, and she has promised not to give Roy a hard time!

I congratulate the GC members who were returned to office, Judy Ip Harris, Patrick Kwek, Lim Kian Kok, David Palmer and Richard Tan. They will provide, together with Robert Wiener, who was returned unopposed as Vice President, continuity in the GC. I am very pleased to welcome three new members to the GC, Sam Bonifant, Henry Ling and Shirley Low. The GC will now have three new people who will bring a fresh perspective to issues and seven others, who have between them some twenty seven years of service to the Club.

To Frank Newman and Peter Koh, who were not re-elected, I wish to thank them for their support and counsel the past year in GC, and for their many contributions to the Club. Peter served as Library Convenor (including the DVD section) and he introduced several initiatives to improve the operations of the Library. Frank served four terms in the GC, as Convenor or deputy for Library, Tenders and Purchasing, Magazine and Website, Food and Beverage and Development and Property. We will miss Frank, a gentleman of the old school. In GC, he had a common sense approach to issues and we could always depend on his wicked and salacious sense of humour to liven proceedings. For Ashoke, I thank him for his offer to serve, and look forward to continuing our stimulating spiritual discourses at the Wet Bar.

The AGM was attended by more than 640 Members, a record turnout. It shows that Members are concerned about their Club. They want a say in the future of their Club.

The GC proposal to amend Rule 11(v) was defeated and its converse, the amendment to Rule 2(iii) was passed. I believe the resulting vote outcome may be attributed to the nationalistic bias of my appeal for much needed amendments to the PTM; this bias was interpreted as discriminatory and divisive to both our non- Singaporean Members as well as our Singaporean membership. I wish to categorically state that my letter proposing the Rule amendment was well intended and I personally regret its un-intended consequences. I trust my nationalism will not polarize our membership.

I wish to repeat the apology I made at the AGM for the distress and embarrassment caused to Members by my reference to “foreign guest members” in my letter. No offence was intended and I regret the inelegant and unfortunate language used.

In reality, the amendment to Rule 2(iii) has, to all intents and purposes, locked the Club into the PTM of 4,000. We now have a formidable barrier for future GCs to redress the present membership imbalance (of 56/44), without realizing its financial implications and the difficulties in bringing about much needed changes for the Club to stay relevant. In good time, I pray the divisions will coalesce to develop a comprehensive solution that all may support.

We have to put the AGM behind us. A new GC is in place. We will have to work hard to restore harmony and unity in the Club.

The task ahead is clear. The GC will debate the RSC Report and engage and consult Members before putting a package of proposals (“Proposals”) for the membership to consider. The Proposals will have to balance the many interlocking relationships, among them, facilities capacity v membership size v usage demand, waiting list of Members’ children v the 49/51 ratio v the PTM, ageing membership v absent membership list, Members’ spending patterns v operating deficits and future funding.

In the process, we must never forget that the object of the Club is to provide “social and recreational amenities for its members.”

I shall be grateful for your continuing support.

Dear Members,

The Club Party on 4 May was a great success, with about 500 Members and their guests attending the event, donning a myriad of colourful and ingenious hats fit for the Party’s theme. The revelry continued well into the night. For a montage of pictures from the Party, please turn to page 16 of this issue.

Mother’s Day Brunch on 12 May was also well-attended, with delightful performances by children of Members and a delicious spread of food and drink. Not to be outdone, the upcoming Father’s Day Brunch on June 16 in the Churchill Room promises to be just as enjoyable an experience.

On 26 June, the Churchill Room will host the Tanglin Conversations, which

is the first in a series of dinner-talks with distinguished personalities. Our very first guest speaker is none other than Professor Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. For more information on registration, please turn to page 11.

With the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting on 13 May, I would like, on behalf of the staff, to welcome the new General Committee for 2013/2014, and look forward to working with them in the year ahead to meet Members’ needs and aspirations.

EDiTOR’S NOTE

ThE TaNgliN Club7

Dear Members,

Being a Club Member for half a century, having served on many Sub-Committees, and being a General Committee Member for more than a decade, I had decided not to contest for a seat on the General Committee in the last Annual General Meeting on 13 May.

My late husband joined the Club on 29 June 1953, and I’ve been involved in Club activities ever since. I started teaching swimming and tennis lessons for children of Members, and in 1969, then-President Joe Elias suggested that I manage all children’s and sports activities. My proudest moment was in February 1996, when other ladies and myself became full Members of our own right, which was quite an accomplishment. I continued to offer lessons free-of-charge, which extended to bridge lessons and tennis classes for the staff on their lunch breaks. I was honoured when ex-President Graham Bell suggested Life Membership for me, but I thanked him and turned him down, as I preferred to carry on with my activities for the Club. In 2001, I ran for election to the General Committee, and since then been on the Sub-Committees of Children’s Activities, Club Relations, Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Library, Magazine, Sports (Tennis and Bridge), and Staff. Bridge is a point of pride for me, as I have been teaching bridge for 40 years, every Friday morning at no cost.

I am very proud to have served with so many Members, friends and new acquaintances, and I treasure my time with them, in serving this Club that I so dearly love, and a huge cornerstone in my life. Thank you to all of them!

But I continue to serve this Club. The outgoing General Committee of 2012/2013 has graciously appointed me Adviser, Club Relations, and my new role will be that of a liaison to new Members, Absent Members returning from overseas, and visitors to the Club, and I will introduce to them the Club’s storied history, its many traditions, and its numerous facilities.

I congratulate the new General Committee for the coming year, and I wish them all the best in their work to safeguard this Club and to look after our Members’ interests.

My tenure as the Editor will end with this issue of the Club magazine, and I would like to thank the outgoing members of the Magazine & Website Sub-Committee, and all the Club staff, especially the Library staff Agnes, Nancy, Devi and Shamima, and the staff of the Marketing & Communications Department for their hard work, dedication, and support all these years.

See you around in the Club!

MEET ThE auThOR EVENiNg ChEONg YiP SENg

auThOR Of Ob MaRKERS: MY STRaiTS TiMES STORY26 aPRil

Hot potato, yes, burnt lips, no.

The Meet the Author evening on 26 April featured former Singapore Press Holdings Editor-in-Chief (English and Malay Newspapers) Cheong Yip Seng and his hot-potato book OB Markers: My Straits Times Story. Mr Cheong’s audience wanted to know whether Mr Lee Kuan Yew gave approval for the contents of the book (no), whether it ruffled feathers in Government and the Civil Service (yes, some) and whether it told everything there was to tell about Government’s relationship with and restrictions on media and journalists (no).

The hottest potato of the evening, sliced up, were questions why even government TV reported that the Prime Minister during a general election rally had said that constituencies would be fixed if they voted in opposition MPs, but The Straits Times used an euphemism for “fix”. The Prime Minister apologised for using that word. No apology for the euphemism? No action taken, like dismissal of the journalist(s) responsible? It was a spirited exchange with moments of good humour.

Mr Cheong’s book has received mixed reviews in both new and old media. The Straits Times and other Singaporean newspapers continue to get mixed receptions daily. But those who do read the newspapers, like those who filled almost every seat in the Raffles Room, do get information and answers.

Mr Cheong was forthcoming and forthright. He must have held back some, as even the most active questioners must have held back somewhat. It was like a good game of squash, which Mr Cheong played a lot of at the Club years back. The rules of squash allow lets. So did Mr Cheong and his friendly audience.

It was a worthwhile evening with the author, just as his book has been judged by even its severe critics as a worthwhile read. No burnt lips that evening. Instead we had tasty food for thought.

So, what is forgiveness and what it is not?

Forgiveness is not something you do for others. It’s something you do for yourself. You are the one who suffers when you are unwilling to forgive. Refusing to forgive is like stabbing yourself with a knife and expecting the other person to feel the pain. If you continue to hold on to past hurts and grudges, you clog your positive energy channels and continue to block the flow of your desires to you. So think of forgiveness as a way to clear out the clutter. Forgiveness will allow you to make room for all of the good to pour into your life.

Forgiveness does not mean you erase the past, or forget what has happened. It doesn’t even mean the other person will change his/her behavior — you cannot control that. All it means is that you are letting go of the anger and pain, and moving on to a better place. It’s important to note that forgiveness isn’t about the other person or about making someone else apologize or change — it’s about setting yourself free. “It’s about releasing the impact of a loss or

a disappointment or an upset, releasing it from ourselves so we can go forward and not be continually reminded or triggered about this upsetting thing.

Yes, forgiving others can be difficult. And it can be even more difficult to forgive yourself. But it must be done if you want to live the life you desire. Learning to forgive takes practice. So be patient and gentle with yourself as you learn to practice this new habit. It’s okay if you feel resistance sometimes, or if you find yourself holding on to those negative emotions again. Just keep practicing because forgiveness will change your life.

I invite you to say — and most importantly, feel — the following affirmations each night before bed: I now choose to forgive myself and others for every mistake we have made, knowing that we all did the best we could at the time. I choose to let go of any and all anger, guilt, shame, blame, judgment, and hurt. I allow myself to feel forgiveness, and I open myself up to receive all the good I desire.

ThE TaNgliN Club28

ForgivenessWe’ve all had moments in life when someone has hurt us at some time or another - treated us badly, trust was broken, hearts were hurt. And while the pain caused by this hurt is normal, sometimes it lingers far too long. We relive the pain over and over, and have a hard time letting go.

This pain not only causes us to be unhappy but can also strain or ruin relationships, distract us from work, family and other important things. This lingering pain makes us reluctant to open up to new things and people. We get trapped in a cycle of anger hurt, blame, resentment and miss out on the beauty of life as it happens.

Research reveals that when we have resentment, grievance and feelings of hostility towards anyone or if we have any of the

other toxic emotions like guilt, shame, depression or fear, these emotions release hormones such as adrenaline

and cortisol. These hormones have effects on the cardiovascular and the immune systems. We become

immune compromised, even your platelets get jittery with the high levels of adrenaline and

they start the clotting cascade leading to cardiovascular illnesses, heart attacks and

stroke. Interestingly, research has also proven that when we forgive and let go

the burden of judgment, everything settles down and our body starts to

return to homeostasis, which is self-regulation and self-healing.

ThE TaNgliN Club29

If you’re holding onto pain, reliving it, and can’t let go and forgive, read on for some things I’ve learned from thought leaders in the field.

1. Commit to letting go. You aren’t going to do it in a second or maybe not even in a day. It can take time to get over something. So commit to changing, because you recognize that the pain is hurting you.

2. Think about the pros and cons. What problems does this pain cause you? Does it affect your relationship with this person? With others? Does it affect work or family? Does it stop you from pursuing your dreams, or becoming a better person? Does it cause you unhappiness? Think of all these problems, and realize you need to change. Then think of the benefits of forgiveness — how it will make you happier, free you from the past and the pain, improve things with your relationships and life in general.

3. Realize you have a choice. You cannot control the actions of others, and shouldn’t try. But you can control not only your actions, but also your thoughts. You can stop reliving the hurt, and can choose to move on. You have this power. You just need to learn how to exercise it.

4. empathize. Try this: put yourself in that person’s shoes. Try to understand why the person did what he/she did. Start from the assumption that the person isn’t a bad person, but just did something wrong. What could he/she have been thinking, what could have happened to him in the past to make him/her do what he/she did? What could he/she have felt as he/she did it, and what did he/she feel afterward? How does he/she feel now? You aren’t saying what he/she did is right, but are instead trying to understand and empathize.

5. understand your responsibility. Try to figure out how you could have been partially responsible for what happened. What could you have done to prevent it, and how can you prevent it from happening next time? This isn’t to say you’re taking all the blame, or taking responsibility away

from the other person, but to realize that we are not victims but participants in life.

6. focus on the present. Now that you’ve reflected on the past, realize that the past is over. It isn’t happening anymore, except in your mind. And that causes problems — unhappiness and stress. Instead, bring your focus back to the present moment. What are you doing now? What joy can you find in what is happening right now? Find the joy in life now, as it happens, and stop reliving the past. By the way, you will inevitably start thinking about the past, but just acknowledge that, and gently bring yourself back to the present moment.

7. Allow peace to enter your life. As you focus on the present, try focusing on your breathing. Imagine each breath going out is the pain and the past, being released from your body and mind. And imagine each breath coming in is peace, entering you and filling you up. Release the pain and the past. Let peace enter your life. And go forward, thinking no longer of the past, but of peace and the present.

8. feel compassion. Finally, forgive the person and realize that in forgiveness, you are allowing yourself to be happy and move on. Feel empathy for the person and wish happiness for them, let love for them, and life in general, grow in your heart. It may take time, but if you’re stuck on this point, repeat some of the ones above until you can get here.

Yes, forgiveness can change your life! It’s not easy. But you can learn to do it. In fact, if everyone in the world were to practice forgiveness on a daily basis, life on this planet would be transformed. And that transformation can start today, with you and me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article. This is the second of the two part series of Gratitude and Forgiveness.

with gratitude,Sarita Jadhav

Balut is a funny game - players who keep asking for a Balut never get one, and then there are the quiet ones who casually throw three, as in Nina, or four, Deepa being the case in point. Plus, we had a visitor who did creditably well and the entire gathering said he got his good looks from his mother.

In between these random observations on genetics, gene pool and genealogy, 17 Balut Section members made it to the monthly game and turned the Wine Bar into a much more lively place. Padmini Panikar topped the charts with both highest total and game score of 631 and 141 respectively. However, in the interest of fair play, the highest game score went to Convenor Sethuraman with his throw down of 140. Avid readers will note that the Occasional Kelong Acapella Choir, silent so far this year, were ready to burst into song, but refrained on this occasion.

The month of May saw us play the first of the Inter-Club games at the SRC, and together with the monthly game provided a good wrist work-out. We will be back with more!

OuT Of ThE haTTwenty-four members turned up at the Tavern on the evening of Tuesday, 23 April for a hearty meal before their fun bridge games. Everyone was relaxed and with wine and chatter, all were happy. After the meal, we then adjourned to the Raffles Room for our games. Players had to draw from a hat matching capitals with countries for partnerships. Thanks again to Shyamala for her creativity in this department.

Three boards were played each round and the results were:

Thumbs-up for The Tanglin Club!

Nearest to the Pin Winner – David Healy (on left)

The golf segment of the TANS game for 2013 was held at Warren Golf Club in great weather which was a change since the afternoons have been rather prone to showers recently. Each team submitted 16 players who were then grouped in 16 flights to do battle using System 36 scoring. The results, which took the top ten scores of each team, were very close and saw The Tanglin Club piped into second place by NUSS by two miserly points. The hosts for the event, the American Club, did a great job by getting all our players off in good style and the dinner at the culmination was washed down with lots of sudsy brew.

Thanks to our players who turned out in full force and put up a good fight and congratulations to David Healy who nabbed the Nearest to the Pin prize for the 16th hole.

To scuba divers, Raja Ampat conjures up visions of remote islands, pristine waters and great bio-diversity of marine life. When I first dived there in 2005, the area was relatively quiet with few dive operators. At most dive sites, ours was the only dive boat. The vessel then was MV Shakti, and we explored the southern parts of Raja Ampat. Seven years on, in December 2012, I was eager to explore the northern parts of the island group.

We flew from Singapore to Makassar for the night and caught an early morning flight to Sorong, where we transferred to the MV Puteri Papua. Mike and Doris Oxborrow and I were the only Tanglin Club Scuba Section members among the seven divers and one snorkeler. Also on board was a Swiss couple who had been diving in Indonesia the prior three weeks and would continue diving for two weeks more before returning to Switzerland!

The immediate difference from 2005 was the large number of dive operators now in Raja Ampat. To avoid over-crowding in the more popular sites, operators co-ordinate diving intervals. One of them is Manta Sandy which has a manta ray cleaning station and, predictably, a sandy bottom. We were lucky to be allotted the first dive. Descending to the

bottom, we didn’t have to wait long for the resident black and white mantas to arrive, expecting their regular clean-ups. It was spectacular, with some rays swimming so close that we could almost touch them. Fortunately, no one did. These were large mantas, with estimated wing spans of two to three meters, and were truly a sight to behold! This particular dive site was so good that we requested an encore on our return leg, and the second visit did not disappoint.

Another memorable dive site was Citrus Ridge in Pulau Yanggelo. The site sits between two mangrove ridges and we could see the mangrove roots in clear water. This phenomenon is unique to Raja Ampat as mangrove roots are usually found in murky swamps. Among the roots along the mangrove fringe, we saw healthy coral life and an excellent diversity of marine fish. Diving deeper, we also saw a large variety of fish like barracuda, fusiliers, batfish, sweetlips, and even wobbegong shark.

At Pulau Kerupiar, at Mike’s Point, was an abundance of Oriental Sweetlips, schools of yellow fusiliers, scorpion fish and a rare white cowrie. The site had an large spread of different coloured soft corals patrolled by a gang of resident black-tipped reef shark.

Diving can be a dangerous business. While star-gazing on the deck one evening, one of our divers missed a step and sprained his ankle, which swelled up so much that he could not wear his fin the next day. Still, he insisted on diving. He was my buddy, and we were at West Gam Island diving at a site called Mbraimuk. It was hilarious to see a one-finned diver struggling in the water, while maintaining a constant depth of 12-15 meters. I kept him in sight, in case he developed difficulties, but there were none, and he did well to complete the dive. It was a great dive too, with sightings of pygmy seahorses, stonefish, wobbegong shark, schools of batfish, moray eels and a banded sea snake.

Raja Ampat is known for wobbegong sharks. We saw these on almost every one of our 21 dives, including three night dives. During the day, these odd-looking creatures would remain still under table corals or in caverns with their tails sticking out. At night they emerge, and can be found in the open. The species most commonly found in Raja Ampat is the tasselled wobbegong (Eucrossorhinus dasypogon), and the adults we sighted were about 1.5 – 2.0 meters long.

I recall from my earlier visit, a more diverse variety of soft coral in southern Raja Ampat compared with the north. I also noticed signs of human settlement along the coast of some of the islands we sailed around, which were absent in 2005. I hope these settlers respect the pristine, wild beauty of their environment and can live in harmony with their surroundings. Raja Ampat is one dive destination that I would definitely re-visit.

After months of waiting, the dive season on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia has begun. And in keeping with tradition, the occasion was marked by a rowdy, lip-smacking feast at the Scuba Section’s Start-of-Season Party.

This year was also a special treat as the party was held in Mrs Tan “Cookie” Lee Leng’s lovely home, with a fabulous spread by her! Sixteen divers and family members talked shop – or rather diving – over quiches and salads; rich patés on bread; lamb shanks and couscous smothered in wine sauce, carefully paired with Côtes du Rhône; and sweet endings of her famous “upside-down” cake.

Food comes second only to diving among Section members, a practice to which participants on dive expeditions would readily testify. And this party will be hard to beat!

Dynasties. This year’s Club Championships were all about that. Mooraj, Ng, Fung, Friend, Cho. Different backgrounds, ages, nationalities. They entered with one purpose: to add to their growing legacy.

In the men’s singles, another from the Mooraj stable emerged victorious, and from what the large crowd saw, the early signs of a bright tennis future. Young Ali, barely in his teens, bested former champion Taco Portengen while former WTA player Hiroko Friend was victorious in the women’s singles, beating Leong Shieh Yen. Ali’s elder brother, Imran, won last year. Ah, the joys of dynastic succession.

In one semi, former champions Taco and Mark Fernandes battled it out, with Dutchman Taco winning 6-0, 6-1, while Ali downed another teenager in Ryan Ng 6-1, 6-4 in the other. The final was indeed a fitting finale to a wonderful club championship year. The final swung one way, then the other as Taco and Ali went back and forth for 2 ½ hours before Ali, the youngest ever champion in our storied Championships at 13, won 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

In the women’s singles, Hiroko and Maxine Ng were in one semi while the other was between Cho Yu Mei, already a winner in 2013, and Shieh Yen. Hiroko added another to a growing list of titles at Tanglin by beating Shieh Yen 6-1, 6-1

in building her own dynasty at the championships. A week earlier, she partnered Shigeko Ueno to win the women’s doubles.

The singles plate winners were Chris Forbes in the men’s and Jennifer Hughes in the women’s.

The mixed doubles final was a battle between the top-seeded pairing of Dave Ng-Maddie Noda and Cho Yu Mei-Bernard Fung. All four are former champions. Dave was going for his second 2013 title after the men’s doubles). A win would also bring his number of Tanglin trophies to 10.

But it was big-serving Bernard, half of the victorious men’s doubles team the previous year, who took control at the net to lead the pair to straight sets 6-4, 6-1 win.

The mixed plate was won by the father-daughter pairing of Roland and Patricia Tan over the husband-wife pairing of Cathy and CK Leow

The French Open men’s singles final will be screened on 9 June at Tangles. Please look out for more information on the notice boards, email or at tanglin.tennisbookings.com.

Jeffrey Archer’s mesmerizing saga of the Clifton and Barrington families continues in his new novel, Best Kept Secret. It is 1945, London. The vote in the House of Lords as to who should inherit the Barrington family fortune has ended in a tie. The Lord Chancellor’s deciding vote will cast a long shadow on the lives of Harry Clifton and Giles Barrington. Harry returns to America to promote his latest novel, while his beloved Emma goes in search of the little girl who was found abandoned in her father’s office on the night he was killed. When the general election is called, Giles Barrington has to defend his seat in the House of Commons and is horrified to discover who the Conservatives select to stand against him. But it is Sebastian Clifton, Harry and Emma’s son, who ultimately influences his uncle’s fate.

In 1957, Sebastian wins a scholarship to Cambridge, and a new generation of the Clifton family marches onto the page. But after Sebastian is expelled from school, he unwittingly becomes caught up in an international art fraud involving a Rodin statue that is worth far more than the sum it raises at auction. Does he become a millionaire? Does he go to Cambridge? Is his life in danger? Best Kept Secret, the third volume in Jeffrey Archer’s bestselling series, will answer all these questions but, once again, pose so many more.

HeALiNg THe boDYCoLDS & fLuSince there is no cure for the common cold, assisting the body in fighting the infection is the best course of action.

Essential oils like eucalyptus and tea tree can help fight colds and flu in two ways. First, they can ward off illness or hasten recovery by boosting immunity. Second, they can ease many of the discomforts when used in baths, chest rubs, compresses, inhalants, as well as in the diffuser.

At the first sign of a cold or the flu, take a Cold and Flu-Fighting Bath. Then prepare an Inhalant for Cold and Flu and use it in a steam inhalation or inhale it directly from the bottle. Massage Cold and Flu Chest Rub onto your chest, throat and back. Then get in bed!

Cold and Flu-Fighting BathUse a combination of all or some of these essential oils:• 3 drops lemon oil• 3 drops tea tree or eucalyptus oil• 1 drop marjoram oil• 1 drop myrrh oil

Disperse the essential oils in a bathtub filled with warm water. Soak in the bath for 20 to 30 minutes, taking care not to become chilled. Repeat as necessary.

Cold and Flu Chest RubUse a combination of all or some of these essential oils:• 10ml rice bran oil• 4 drops cypress oil• 3 drops eucalyptus oil• 2 drops frankincense oil• 2 drops rosemary oil• 2 drops thyme oil• 1 drop ginger oil

Place the rice bran oil in a clean container, add the essential oils, and blend. Massage the oil over your chest and back several times daily until your symptoms subside.

guM pRobLeMGood oral hygiene is the best way to prevent gum problems. If you already have gum problems, good oral hygiene may reverse some of the damage and prevent the problem from progressing further. You should also see your dentist for proper treatment.

Gum Therapy OilUse a combination of all or some of these essential oils to 10ml of rice bran oil:• 10 drops tea tree oil• 6 drops myrrh oil• 3 drops lemon oil• 1 drop peppermint oil

Our sense of smell is captured in the limbic area of our brain. When we breathe in an essential oil blend or when it is applied on the skin, the molecules from them sent a chain of reactions, triggering messages to the brain which affect our responses to healing. In this final contribution from Spa Botanica, I would like to share a few more discoveries that Mother Nature has provided in healing our body and mind.
