The State Theatre If you like "Whose Line is it Anyway?", try it with Band members who have never played together! Five band members are drawn from a hat and put on the stage and then they have 30 seconds to figure out the song that was just selected for them to play. Its called "Band Roulee" and has been a smash hit for the audience. We will welcome the "SPAZMATICS" from Chicago, playing hits of the 80s with these great performers. Dean Sams from LONESTAR will be bringing his solo show to the State, as well. For these and other shows visit www.statetheatrebaycity.com or call us at 989.892.2660 #2. Also, you can join our VIP Club and text state1908 to 22452 and get all updates before they go public. Friends of the Historic Masonic Temple This past summer The Friends of the Historic Masonic Temple launched “Discover Magic,” a two week summer day camp facilitated by professional magicians teaching campers the art of magic and performance skills. The camp wrapped up with a Magic Show for family and friends with the campers showing off their new skills. This program received great reviews from students and parents alike encouraging us to expand the program. This year we will offer “Discover Magic” twice. In March we will offer the program over four Saturday sessions. Then in June we will once again host the day camp and expand it to include a level two for returning students. Other popular programs starng in the first quarter of the year include our ‘Face the FX’ theatrical makeup program and the Midnight Monster Movies opening in January with 1980’s ‘The Shining.’ Bay County Library System The Friends of the Bay County Libraries are pleased to present an incredible evening with Dr. Howard Markel, author of "The Kellogg's: Baling Brothers of Bale Creek", at The State Theater on April 11 at 7:00 pm. Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center The Delta College Planetarium in downtown Bay City features an award-winning production about asteroids, comets, and the hard-hitting stories of our cosmic origins. Narrated by George Takei, “Incoming!” explores the past, present, and future of our Solar System and the landmark discoveries scientists have made sending spacecraft to visit tiny worlds. Along the way, audiences will discover what impacts from above can teach us—and how scientific advances may allow us to find and track cosmic threats before they reach planet Earth. Cutting-edge visualizations will bring real-time data from current NASA missions to life while taking audiences on an immersive journey into the hidden secrets of the smaller bodies of the solar system. Visit delta.edu/planet for show times!

Bay City Players EARLY NIGHTS. LOW TEMPS. ICE AND SNOW. Forget ‘em. Think of belly laughs, great music, and stories to touch the mind and heart. That’s the rest of Season 101 with Bay City Players. AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY puts three daughters back with their mother—where they don’t belong. Fascinating story with dramatic women. LEND ME A TENOR puts the wrong women in the wrong hotel rooms, the wrong man singing opera, and the right combo of people, situations, and dialogue to make you laugh all evening. MAN OF LA MANCHA puts us into one of America’s great musicals: soaring songs, great story within a story—truth, honor, glory and “The Impossible Dream.” There, take that winter!!

Bay Arts Council The Bay Arts Council is proud to support arts programming in our county through our small grants program ($500 or less). Our next grant application deadline is February 11, 2019. In 2018, grant recipients included Bay Chorale, The Friends of the Masonic Temple, The Bay City Players, Studio 23, Bay County Library System, and Hell’s Half Mile Film Festival. We are always looking for new partnerships with non-profit organizations and schools for their arts programming. Please contact Mike Bacigalupo at [email protected] for more information about submitting a grant proposal. Our grants are made possible by generous community arts enthusiasts – like you! We extend our thanks to all the donors who made contributions in 2018. Won’t you join them? Send your contribution to Bay Arts Council, 913 Washington Ave, Bay City MI 48708.

Bay County Historical Museum Happy New Year to you and Happy Birthday to us! May of 2019 marks the 100th birthday of the Bay County Historical Society. Watch Rob in action and you’ll agree he is one of the very best stand-up comedians in the country. A sketch comedy player on the Fox Sports Net Show, "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" and "Last Call with Carson Daly," Little uses his training from the world famous Second City Comedy Club to create routines that are inventive, funny, spontaneous, and completely unique. He headlines clubs and colleges all over the country, has appeared in national television commercials and on such shows as Comedy Central's “Distraction,” Fox News and SiTV's “Latino Laugh Festival.” He also earned a role on the CBS network summer hit series, “Fire me Please.” Rob’s recently released 3rd comedy DVD/CD is another testament to both his talent and status as a comedic force.

Newsletter January-April, 2019 Bay Cit y Ar ts & Culture Non-profit organizations promoting local arts & culture.

Studio 23 Transformation Studio 23/The Arts Center plans to improve its facility, image, and capacity in order to remain the high-quality organization our community has come to expect. Outcomes will include superior exhibit space for the community and artists, expanded and upgraded art education areas, and the availability of a gathering destination for the community. This project will take place from January 2019 until April 2019. We will be operating classes inside the Bay County Historical Society during the winter months. Renovations and resulting outcomes include: Reducing the administrative office space on the second level, which will double our clay classroom/kiln space. Our current clay classes are at capacity. More room will allow more students to learn and express their creativity through pottery. Reconfiguration of the main floor will result in a more desirable gallery floor plan and a main-floor classroom with built-in storage and supply area. Updated and energy-efficient lighting will allow more control over lighting of exhibits, allowing us to highlight the art attractively while saving utility costs. Installation of a noise absorption system will improve the experience for patrons, students, and artists by reducing the noise and echoes that come with open spaces. Replacing first-level flooring with polished concrete, which is long-lasting and low-maintenance. An improved sound system will make the gallery a more desirable event destination. Additional security cameras for the safety of students, teachers, patrons, and artwork. We look forward to seeing you when we reopen in April of 2019. Please stay up to date by visiting our website and social media accounts.

Bay Concert Band On Sunday, March 10, 2019 the Bay Concert Band will perform its seventh From Stage and Screen series concert at Bay City Central HS auditorium starting at 3 pm. This concert titled “Musical Americana” features popular American music from, Sousa to Dixieland and West Side Story to Louis Armstrong. Doors open at 2:30 and admission is $5 with students sixth grade and under admitted free.
