    New arrivals “When we bought it, the place was just a shell,” remembers the owner. “It was half a barn and a few walls.” Having grown up in the area, the owner was already sure about the glorious location and fell in love with the property. “It had a nice feel to it,” she says. “We’d moved from a terrace house in town and this was so lovely and light and spacious. The builders even left a bunch of flowers in the kitchen ready for our arrival.” Originally part of an old dairy, the property originates from around 1880. “There’s a wall at the back of the garden that was part of the original dairy farm,” says the owner.

    Brand new Having been newly converted for the owners, the property was immaculate and finished to a high standard. “We haven’t done much to the place since we moved in, except added a wall in the sitting room to stop the warmth from the wood burner escaping up the stairs,” she says. Decorated with neutral shades, the downstairs section of the property is enhanced with oak flooring for a beautiful finish. A versatile space,

    perfect for any family, The Stables has lots of open plan space and four sets of French doors. “There are two sets in the sitting room, which let in a lovely breeze in the summer,” explains the owner. “There’s also a set in the playroom and leading off from the kitchen.”

    Suited to all Spending most of their time in the kitchen, the family are grateful for the vast space. “We spend oodles of time in here – around 90 percent of it,” says the owner. “Every time someone comes over they instantly park themselves at the kitchen table – it’s just such a lovely room for eating and having a good old chat.” The kitchen units give plenty of space, while the French doors flood the room with light. Described as “ a good family home”, the owners of The Stable use one of the property’s rooms as a playroom. “It was intended to be a dining room and could easily be used for that, but for us it’s much better to have a space for the children.”

    Fond memories Exquisitely finished, the property is stylish yet homely and lends itself to entertaining. “We celebrated my husband’s 40th birthday here not

    so long ago, inviting around 50 friends to join us,” says the delighted owner. “We set up a gazebo on the lawn and it was lovely.” The garden has a large patio as well as a lawned area and a small vegetable patch, creating the perfect haven for child or adult. “The stepping stones that lead to the playhouse have little animals on them and the children love them,” she says. Situated just a mile from he village of Methwold, the property is set in miles of undulating countryside, with necessities a short distance away. “You can get milk and bread in Methwold and there’s a lovely butchers that has been there for years – it even does cheese and olives too,” says the owner.
