I am available: Katrina Kaif

Humshakals is third highest open-er, earns Rs. 25 crore in two days

Bollywood actors are the subject of specula-tion numerous times — from their personal affairs to their professional schedules, most aspects of their lives are under scrutiny. And while most of them come out to clarify these matters — many opt for press conferences, social media posts or issue statements — some remain media shy. Recently, this label has been attached to Ka-trina Kaif, who, it is being alleged, avoided the media at a scheduled interaction in Cape Town, South Africa. Katrina is shooting at the location with her alleged boyfriend, Ranbir Kapoor, for their upcoming detective film Jagga Jasoos. Re-portedly, Katrina had allotted time for a magazine shoot and was later supposed to interact with the media, but allegedly did not. However, a source close to the actor re-veals that there is no truth to these reports. “She was not supposed to go for any photo shoot and had not planned any media inter-actions in Cape Town. She was shooting in a jungle with her film’s team,” says the in-sider. When asked about her supposed media-shy personality, Katrina says that she shares a good relationship with the media and re-futes the reports of her inaccessibility. She says, “I have a wonderful relationship with the media and have been accessible to them at all times.”

Sajid Khan’s latest directorial venture Humshakals has made the third highest opening day collection at the box office on Friday, earning Rs. 12.5 crore. Despite critics panning the film, Hum-

shakals seems to be raining cash at the ticket windows. Humshakals stars Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu, Tamannah Bhatia, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor and Esha Gupta in lead roles. Humshakals collections picked slightly on Saturday to Rs. 12.59 crore, totalling Rs. 25.09 crore in two days. Considering the fact that there are no other Bollywood releases this week, Humshakals is likely to make a decent earning at the box office.Salman Khan-starrer Jai Ho is the biggest opener with Rs. 17 crore, while Alia Bhatt-Arjun Kapoor-starrer Two States earned Rs. 38.06 crore on day one.

I hope there will be better roles: Rani Mukerji

Actor Rani Mukherji would love to be a part of women-oriented movies but feels actors are like beggars as they can’t choose much. Rani, who is known for portraying strong roles in her films, is now playing a police officer in Mardaani. “It is great that female-oriented films are doing well. I wish more such films come up and work at the box office so more producers are inspired to make such movies,” Rani told reporters at the trailer launch of Mardaani. “We actors are like beggars. We never choose, but are chosen by creative people, including directors and producers. I will take up the subjects that are interesting and powerful, which is women-centric I will do it. I hope there will be better roles,” she said. Recently, Vidya Balan had said heroines usually don’t have much to do in films that centre around the Khan trio (Aamir, Salman & Shah Rukh). However, Rani does not agree with this. “I love all the Khans. Since the time I did my first films with them like Ghulam (with Aamir), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (with Shah Rukh Khan) and others, my role in those films was good. I don’t have any complaint. They are amaz-ing,” she said.

Rani is quite excited about her next release Mardaani and says the movie is close to her heart. “This film is extremely close to us. It is the way of awakening the spirit of ‘Mardaani’. At young age I got to know about Rani of Jhansi and how strong she was. And strong doesn’t mean in terms of physicality, but in spirit. We women are descendants of Shakti. Through this film we are talking about the inner strength of women so that no one takes undue advan-tage of them,” she said. “I am inspired by my mother. She is a tigress. From her I have learnt how to be in hold of my actions. She is a very strong personality in the house. We women from Kolkata are known to be strong. My inspi-ration has been all the strong ladies from my family and lady police officers in real life. I hope this film works,” Rani Mukerji added.

Sunny Leone asked to lose

5 kgs

Bollywood wishes Messi on Twitter

Sunny ‘Baby Doll’ Leone has already lost a quite a lot of not-needed kilos to fit into the Bollywood mould but it seems that is not enough. The makers of her next film, Leela, which marks the directorial debut of cho-reographer Ahmed Khan’s brother Bobby, wants her to shed another five kgs. Revealed a source, “A trainer has already been assigned to Sunny and she has started working on a new regime. She is been do-ing a lot of stretching exercises as the role requires her to be extremely agile.” Confirming the same, Ahmed told Mir-ror, “We will go on the floors on July 10. Besides the weight, a lot of which she has already lost, we are also training Sunny in basic folk and traditional Bollywood dance

High on the nail-biting quotient, this match left FIFA fans all over the world hero-wor-shipping Lionel Messi. Messi’s 90th minute goal in the match between Argentina and Iran gave the Argentines a 1-0 win over Iran, and left the Twitterati pretty overwhelmed, even by FIFA standards. While the match was scoreless till the 89th minute, and fans had given up hopes of see-ing a goal in the actual duration of the game, it was the Atomic Flea’s kick that secured the position of Argentina in the second round of the World Cup.While Messi scored high on all praise-o-meters, Iran’s defence, too, received much applause on Twitter. And in between relish-ing the match, Bollywood and Hollywood celebs took to Twitter to pour their feelings out about Messi’s goal. Rihanna’s series of tweets on how she was ‘looking at’ the Argentine forward upped the temperature on the microblogging site, and took the cake, undoubtedly.

- a craft which she hasn’t practiced before.” The actress plays a princess in the musical, which is produced by Ahmed Khan and Bhushan Kumar. The film, which is set in London and Jaisalmer, is yet to find a male lead. “We are in talks with a few actors. We should finalise a guy within a week’s time. Since the role is quite pivotal to the film’s script, so we are ensuring we find the right match opposite Sunny,” Ahmed said.

Scripts penned by filmmaker Imtiaz Ali have featured strong female leads in the past — cases in point, Deepika Padukone’s turn as a spunky girl in Cocktail (2012) and Alia Bhatt’s recent gritty portrayal in Highway. And the director minces no words in prais-ing his favourite leading ladies.Ask Imtiaz about this and he says, “Deepika is a very coming-of-age heroine. And Alia, considering her age, is extremely talented.”Recently, the fimmaker was quoted saying that since day one, he had Alia on his mind for the film. And as far as Deepika is con-cerned, the duo will be working together once again in an upcoming film, for which she will begin shooting in Europe soon.

Asky any Indian woman the real reason be-hind sexual vi-olence against them, and almost all of them will sim-ply blame it on the “mind-set”. Men’s mindset, more precisely! Ac-tor Freida Pinto, who grew up in Mumbai, made a startling revelation recently that she too has been groped in the past. In an interview to German magazine, Brigitte, she said: “Every woman I know has been

groped. I don’t know any woman who uses public transport and has never experienced it. And of course it’s happened to me too.”We asked other Bollywood actors if they’ve had similar experiences, and what they feel can be done to avoid such instances.Dia Mirza - actor-producer- I am not surprised when such things are talked about, because every Indian girl must have experienced or felt paranoid about it — especially in crowded places or while using public transport. The basic problem is to do with the inequality between men and women, and basic social etiquette. As a kid, I was paranoid about visiting exhibi-tion centres with my mother, because I knew there will be sick men around. I was taught how to deal with it, but I’m not sure about millions of other girls.Aditi Rao HydariactorWomen’s security is a big issue because people think they have the right to ‘own’ women and so they feel they can do any-thing without having to worry about conse-quences. I was groped for the first time by an elderly man on my way to my boarding school. I was travelling in the train with oth-er kids from Delhi and two teachers. I was in Class 8 then. I felt sick and disgusted. For men who be-lieve that women are their entertainment figurines, please know that we’re capable of making you feel far worse than what your acts make us feel like, simply because we’re not going to take this lying down.Nargis FakhriactorI feel extremely unsafe when I hear of such things. I do what I can to protect myself when I’m outside. No one has the right to take away my freedom to feel safe and be myself. It is the attacker who should feel ashamed. Unfortunately, I’m aware of a few young ladies who have experienced this.It makes me angry to know that this is hap-pening and people are getting away with it. There should be some sort of punishment, and more importantly, women need to be aware of how to handle situations like these.Prachi DesaiactorYes, I do feel insecure when such things are spoken about. But we cannot blame only our security system. It is the mindsets of the people that has to change. When we speak of our culture, we only speak highly of our women but don’t treat them in the same manner. And yes, like most of the Indian girls I have been through it as well. I feel respect must be shown, and not just spoken about. This will happen only when citizens of our country realise that unless we treat women with respect, there will be no harmony in society.Zareen KhanactorThough we call our country Bharat ‘Mata’, there is actually no respect for females here. It’s high time we stop talking and start tak-ing action to protect our women.

Holiday in Rs. 100 crore club, may emerge as year’s

biggest hit

Humshakals after-math: why Censor

Board must ban film-making for Sajid

After being tortured for 159 minutes with Sajid Khan’s Humshakals, we appeal to the Censor Board of Film Certification to ban the director from making films. Dear CBFC, After watching Himmatwala and now Hum-shakals, in the larger interest of the Indian audience, I request you to ban Sajid Khan from trying his hands at making more films. In case you have thankfully missed his latest film starring Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Esha Gupta, Bi-pasha Basu and Tamannah Bhatia, I rest my case with these five points: 1: You cannot be ignorant of the term ‘com-edy’ when you claim to have paid tributes to comedy kings Kishore Kumar and Jim Car-rey in your film. Sajid Khan commited the grave crime in Humshakals. 2: An overdose of stars (Bipasha, Saif) may ensure great opening, but it does not neces-sarily guarantee that you will be accepted as a filmmaker. The audience has triple dose of these stars but to only add to the sad heap of lame jokes being thrown at the audience. Sajid Khan’s films are injurious to the men-tal health of the audience. 3: Sajid Khan tries to be intelligent and targets jokes at himself. He shows his own disaster - Himmatwala - as a weapon of tor-ture. Unless he grows up enough as a film-maker to get past that stage, that’s never go-ing to be funny. 5: Tamanna: Aap bahut witty hainSaif: Aur aap Churchgate. And adds, “Witty, VT, Churchgate,” in case you did not get it.

Salman Khan-starrer Jai Ho (Rs 116 crore) and Alia-Arjun-starrer 2 States (Rs 102 crore) are the other films which entered Rs. 100 crore club in 2014. Holiday will soon overtake 2 States’ collections. This is Akshay’s third film in the hallowed club after Rowdy Rathore and Housefull 2. Holiday is the 29th movie to join the club. Dhoom 3, Chennai Express, and Krrish 3 are on top of the list. With Humshakals -- the big Hindi release of the week -- getting negative reviews, will we see Holiday becoming the biggest grosser of the year? We will be watching!

Will try not to work with Bipasha Basu again: Vashu Bhagnani

Producer Vashu Bhagnani is so upset with actor Bipasha Basu, one of the female leads in his just released multi-starrer Hum-shakals, that he has decided not to work with her again. Directed by Sajid Khan, the film, which also features actors Riteish Deshmukh, Saif Ali Khan, Ram Kapoor, Esha Gupta and Tam-mannaah Bhatia, hit theatres on Friday. “I will not work with Bipasha in future. I should not give such a statement, but I would try not to work with her,” said Bhag-nani. Bipasha, who has been missing from all the promotional events of the film, stated that she was dissatisfied with the end result of her role in the film.

But Bhagnani says that he never misled her about her role. “I myself asked Sajid to cast Bipasha. She is a lovely lady. But I don’t know what her problem is. After watching the film, she can’t say that her role is smaller. At the time of signing the film, I only gave her the remuneration. It’s not like we told her something else and have done other-

Since his Bollywood debut in 2012, Sid-harth Malhotra has managed to attract quite a fan following. And although he has played a romantic hero in his previous two films opposite Alia Bhatt and Parineeti Chopra, in his upcoming project, he will be seen in an action role.Nervous about how the audience will react to his new on-screen avatar, the actor has apparently been having sleepless nights.“Since the trailer launch, Sidharth has been very anxious about the response he will get. And even though he is physically tired after the long promotion schedules, he has been unable to get sound sleep at night,” adds the source.Ask Sidharth about this and he says, “I have received positive reactions from everyone who has seen the film till now, but I am still nervous. It was a different scenario at that time but today they are big stars of the industry.” However, he is ready to rope in Salman and Aamir if they will produce the film.“Although they both (Salman and Aamir) keep saying that they will love to do the film, so once I am ready with the script, I will discuss with them. I will be able to cast them in the sequel if they both will produce the film as it would not be possible to sign the two big stars to do the film,” he said.“They want the script should be good and

full of comedy so the ball is in my court now and I have to get the script ready for them,” he added while speaking at the first-look launch of “Chaarfutiya Chhokare”.However, he is working on the script with Salman-Aamir as well as young actors in mind.“I am working on the script considering the two point of views. I am working on the characters keeping the age factor of Salman and Aamir and also youngsters. Let’s see what comes as the end product,” Santoshi said.

Hope I get to play Sanjay Dutt in Hirani’s film: Ranbir Kapoor

I am not doing the film: Kareena Kapoor Khan on Sujoy Ghosh’s

Hema Malini, Ramesh Sippy to reunite

There have been speculations about a biopic on Sanjay Dutt, and that Ranbir Kapoor might be the actor to star in it. However, speaking to the media about it for the first time, Ranbir says he and director Rajku-mar Hirani are indeed discussing it. Talk-ing about his proximity to Sanjay, he also recounts how the senior actor, too, would have wanted him for the role.Is it true that you’re set to play Sanjay Dutt?To portray Sanju sir on screen is a big task. And it comes with huge responsibility. He’s had a very entertaining, engaging, and a roller-coaster kind of life. We (him and Hi-rani) have had an informal meeting. But I think Raju sir himself hasn’t decided if he wants to do it or not. It will be exciting to work with Raju sir, and to portray Sanjay Dutt on the big screen.Have you spoken to Sanjay about it?No. Unfortunately, when we started talking about it, Sanju sir was in jail. So we haven’t had a chance to talk. But when I was grow-ing up, Sanju sir would tell me, “If anybody makes a film on my life, I would like you to play [me].” That’s always been a big com-pliment. I love him dearly. So it will be very exciting.

Filmmaker Ramesh Sippy is set to direct dream girl Hema Malini once again after the duo delivered Bollywood’s cult classic Sholay 39 years ago.The film will be titled Shimla Mirchi and will go on floors in August. The romantic saga will also feature City-lights star Rajkummar Rao. Heroine oppo-site him is yet to be finalised.“Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay was released 39 years back in 1975, when he created the

Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has denied re-ports that she is working in Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming thriller Durga Rani Singh. The director had initially approached his Kahaani star Vidya Balan for the lead but she declined the offer due to health reasons.Kareena KapoorThere was a buzz that Kangana was consid-ered for the part but the actor could not ac-commodate her dates.Kareena’s name has been doing the rounds and the actor accepted that she was ap-proached for the part.“I am not doing that film. I said no,” Ka-reena said without giving details. There were reports that Ashutosh Gowari-kar had cast Kareena opposite Hrithik Ro-shan in his next but the actor denied it.The 33-year-old actor, who married Saif Ali Khan in 2012, says her priorities are differ-ent now and she wants to do only those films that suit her schedule.“Now I am at a stage where my priorities are different. I want to do films according to my time. I am married and I want to give time (for it). I can’t go on outdoor (shooting) for three months and that is the reason I rejected Zoya Akhtar’s film which required me to be on a cruise for three months,” Kareena said.

Does it make it special since the Kapoors and Dutts have known each other well? It’s true. I am — and have always been — very close to Sanju sir and [his] family. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get this opportunity to bring Sanjay Dutt’s life to the silver screen. Are you excited at the prospect of working with Hirani?I’ve always been unlucky when it comes to Raju sir. We’ve spoken about two-three films in the past, ever since Saawariya (2007) released, but they never worked out. He is the one director with whom every ac-tor in the industry wants to work.

Zoya initially wanted real life cousins Ran-bir and Kareena for her upcoming film Dil Dhadakne Do.Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra play siblings in the film about a Punjabi family. Kareena, who is shooting at Ramoji Film city for Rohit Shetty’s next Singham Re-turns, will be in Mumbai for her sister Ka-risma’s birthday.“Rohit is kind enough to send me back for a day. It is an important day for me... it’s my sister’s birthday,” she said. The actor apparently is in Bejoy Nambiar’s next alongside megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar.

character of Basanti with his favourite ac-tor Hema Malini. Ramesh Sippy is going to work with Hema Malini after Sholay in Shimla Mirchi and like his other films, the first letter of his next film is also with the letter S,” a release said.Sippy’s last release as a director was Za-maana Deewana in 1995. The film starred Raveena Tandon and Shah Rukh Khan in the lead.

Uday Chopra backs out of Hollywood production

Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma:

the young bridage of B’wood producers

In 2012, an announcement that the Abhishek Bachchan-Rani Mukerji-starrer Bunty Aur Babli (2005) would have an English remake produced by Uday Chopra, made headlines.Aishwarya’s item song Kajra Re in Bunty Aur Bubly was a huge hit. She has also done another item track Ishq Kamina with SRK.Michael Cera and Taylor Swift were touted to star in the film. However, we’ve learnt that budget constraints have prevented the project from taking off.“I thought it would be a cool film to make in

Salman Khan grooves to Mika’s voice in the first song of Sajid Khan’s Kick that was re-leased Friday afternoon. The video shows Salman and Jacqueline Fernandes dancing to the tunes of Himesh Reshammiya. Palak Mucchal has also lent her voice to Jumme Ki Raat, the first song of Kick. Earlier, a source from the movie production had said, “Jumma means Friday in Urdu, which is why Salman and Sajid decided to host the launch on this particular day.” Choreographed by Ahmed Kumar, the song is a peppy number you could dance to. Watch the video and tel us if you like it.

Senior stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan have long changed the perception of a producer usually being a senior, haggard-looking man, running from pillar to post to meet the demands of his cast. Now, even younger names are joining the fray. Ranbir Kapoor (Jagga Jasoos), Anush-ka Sharma (NH10) and Dia Mirza (Bobby Jasoos) are all under 35 years of age, and are making their debuts as producers. Rit-eish Deshmukh has already produced a few Marathi films.Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor also look set to join the bandwagon. While Pri-yanka is reportedly co-producing Madhur Bhandarkar’s Madamji, Shahid is an equal partner in his next, Haider. However, he won’t be taking credit as a producer. At 26, Anushka is touted as the youngest producer.“I’m thrilled to get this chance so early in my career, and I couldn’t have found a bet-ter project to kick-start this phase,” she says.Recently, Ranbir told a film portal that the trend is a great sign. “I want to collaborate with directors as a producer, and hence, I’m producing a movie with Anurag Basu. We are equal partners in it,” he said.

the US, but there, the idea of making a rom-com is a very expensive proposition. Such films are the studios’ domain. If I tried to make it, I wouldn’t be able to sell it unless it was in a quirky space — like Juno (2007) for example,” admits producer Uday Cho-pra, who has extended his family banner to make films in the US.Uday admits that making an out-and-out rom-com is something I can’t presently do on my own, because it takes a bigger bud-get.He adds, “I can co-produce it with a studio, but no one knows me in the US. They will wonder, ‘Who is this upstart from India who is coming and giving me a script? Why would I make it?’”

H o w e v e r , Uday has the English script, set in the US and with local characters. “Maybe I can make it when I have more mon-ey, or when my compa-ny becomes bigger,” he says.

film. But later, Salman got busy with his life and I, with mine, so we lost touch.

Would you be willing to be part of a sequel to Maine Pyaar Kiya?It would be wonderful. I’d be so happy (to do it), but whoever makes it will have to deal with the pressure to live up to the stan-dard of the cult love story. What do you think of Salman’s current su-perstardom? It’s amazing, and I’m very happy for him. Salman is looking so good… he hasn’t looked this good in a while. He’s definitely looking much hotter now.

Tusshar Kapoor seems to have struck gold. We’ve been told that, while the actor was on holiday in the US recently, he got offered a part in an international project. A source close to the actor reveals, “He was approached by a producer who discussed the script of an Indo-British movie with him which is to be directed by Sean Brosnan, son of former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan.”Tusshar Kapoor has reportedly received an offer to star opposite Pierce Brosnan.Apparently, the film will feature Brosnan Sr and Kate Hudson. Tusshar’s role is believed to be an important one. The source adds, “The script has been sent to him. The movie is a kind of a musical, and the makers plan to take it to various fes-tivals too.”

When Salman Khan and Bhagyashree starred in the cult film Maine Pyar Kiya (MPK; 1989) they set a million hearts aflut-ter. However, the hit pair didn’t team up on the big screen again, and Bhagyashree quit acting at the peak of her career, putting her family first. Now, as she returns to acting with a television show, the actor talks about her good friend, Salman, and her acting ca-reer. Have you remained in touch with Salman? We meet on-and-off at social functions, but we haven’t really kept in touch. We were close friends during the making of Maine Pyaar Kiya. He was very protective towards me as I came from a conservative family. I have fond memories from the making of the
