    Abdul Razak NACOULMA The incident

It was so long before I took the metro again, today,to go to the train station for a small trip to a

neighboring town.To my surprise everybody I saw inside the metro looked like an imminent threat,a

potential attacker to me,hiding a knife I dont know where ,and awaiting the opportune moment to

strike.Oh yes, seriously, that was the feeling that filled my mind,at least for some time before I left the

    vehicle.

Well,of course I was extremely watchful to the guy who was standing closest to me!And my

heart was at no occasion calm.Driving through my wandering thoughts,I recalled the fatal, fateful

incident which kept me prisoner of such a scary behavior:the incident.Indeed a few daysago, dozens of MRT(Metro) passengers in Taipei were running for their lives,of which 4 were lost and

some 25 seriously endangered for no other reason than the knife attack by ,a college teenagerwho, prior to his act,was reportedly said to dream of doing something big.May God rid us of such big

dreams as those like this one, which can mean killing innocent people.Fate,is something

irreversible. When it has come,no one can return it.And thank God that Ive never experienced the terror

of being in situations where my life is threatened.Attacks of the kind presented here can lay out and

show a real picture of what terrorist attacks worldwide can bring about.Fear and suspicion are butunavoidable consequences of them ,among others. And I can only think how it feels like living under

situations of such daily terror as what we see in countries where terrorism is a day by day threat.I am

    thinking of Irak,Libya,Afghanistan,Yemen,the U.S. ,Nigeria,Mali,Congo,Liberia,Ukraine and elsewhere,

where innocent lives are cowardly shutdown whether by helpless religious fanatics or any terrorist

group. How does it feel like living in Syria, when the car you rode with pride years ago can no longer

guarantee you anything but the fear that it could be used as the next bomb car ? How does it feel like

walking in the street of Bagdad knowing that the car which is approaching you from the distance could

be the carrier of the sorry destiny of yours ? How would you stand the idea that the building you used to

work at can possibly be host to the unforgiving bombs of your dreadful fate ? How does it feel, when you

lose,God knows, how many of your beloved ones under such circomstances. What is it like being born in a

country amidst the wreckage of these terrors ?

As concerning as these questions are to you, there are just a handful of the reality which lies in

the ruins of some countries where smile is an insult, struggle a useless pain, hope a chimera and

life a mere chance. This could render the incident to be thought of as insignificant. But it is thissomewhat little scaled terror that drives the people in Taiwan out of their usual sensation of safety, this

having required the governments efforts to convince the people of the return of safety and

security. However, calm is not synonymous with serenity:how many are they in Taiwan, who are left

frightened by the mere idea that terrorism may not only reside elsewhere but at home too.And the

government is bound to reassure tourists that the country is back to its peaceage.Peace is likeHealth:there is no price to it.Meanwhile, did I ever thank God for the peace he has provided me with?

I left the MRT thinking and seriously thinking about this question.
