VOCATIONS—Jesus came to earth to save us from our sins; to “serve, not be served.” In today’s Gospel, the Lord invites His followers to do the same; to deny themselves, take up their cross and follow Him so that they

can save their own souls and work for the salva-tion of others. Isn’t that what priesthood and reli-gious life is all about? For more information, con-tact Fr. Joe O’Connor at 315-470-1468.

St. Thomas Indoor Garage Sale will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 9am to 1pm in the St. Thomas Aquinas School Gym. Multiple families will have items for sale, including furni-ture, books, children’s clothing, toys, and so much more!

SEPTEMBER 3 - ORDINARY TIME

Pondering Stewardship

“Above all, let your love for one another be con-

stant, for love covers a multitude of sins. Be mutu-

ally hospitable without complaining. As generous

distributors of God’s manifold grace, put your gifts

at the service of one another, each in the measure

you have received.” (I Peter 4:8-10)

A Family Perspective from the office of Family Life Education—Relationships live in a careful bal-ance. If a person changes, the balance is altered requiring a shift in the relationship. In today’s Gos-pel, Jesus announced a change and Peter resist-ed. Sometimes, those we count on for support may actually get in the way. Jesus told Peter: “You are an obstacle to me.”

Showers of Hope

Outreach Ministries of the Southern Tier is looking for volun-

teers to work behind the scene as well as on site locations for the “Shower of Hope Project”. The “Showers of Hope Project” is a mobile unit that will provide a safe showering facility for those in need. Volunteers needed to help sort and organ-ize donations and work at local parishes where mobile unit will be stationed. The shower unit is in place behind St. Patrick’s Rectory. We are pres-ently offering showers on Thursdays from 1-3 pm at St. Patrick’s. For more information or to vol-unteer, please call Mary at: 723-9208.

The Binghamton Catholic Central Class of 1967 has planned a 50th reunion for Sept. 29 and 30, 2017. For more information, email Monica Foley at [email protected], or [email protected].

The Pastoral Care Area of St. Francis, St Mary of the Assumption and St. Paul are sponsoring a PCA mission. This is from the Faith on Fire people. Father Ken Beale will be in Binghamton on Sept. 23 & 24th preaching to the folks at St. Mary's & St. Paul's. This is the warm-up prior to the acutal Mission. There will be a Ministry Appre-ciation Day on Sept 30 at St. Paul's from 9AM until Noon with lunch to follow. On Sunday Oct 1st there will be a Parish Family Concert at St. Mary's at 7PM until 8:30. The Mission itself runs from Monday Oct 2nd through Weds Oct 4th at St. Francis. The mission starts each evening at 7PM ending at 8:30.

A Labor Day Prayer Lord, on this Labor Day, we thank You for the blessing of work, We ask you for strength to complete each day. We ask for rest when we are weary. We ask Your guidance for everyone seeking employment, and we ask that You be with those whose faces we might never see, but who work tirelessly each day for the good of us all. Amen.

Attention Youth and Young Adults - Pope Francis has dedicated the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops to be focused on the theme of “Young People, the Faith, and Vo-cational Discernment.” It will be held in Rome in October 2018.

In preparation for this Synod, the Vatican has launched an online, anonymous survey for youth and young adults ages 16-29. The Church wants to hear from you! Visit www.usccb.org and click on “Survey on the website.” Please note—you’ll need to change to English before starting the survey.

Pope Francis noted: “The theme is an expression of the pastoral care of the Church for the young. Its aim is to accompany the young on their exis-tential journey to maturity so that, through a pro-cess of discernment, they discover their plan for life and realize it with joy, opening up to the en-counter with God and with human beings, and ac-tively participating in the edification of the Church and of society.
