BALLET ExAmSBallet exams are quickly approaching. Candidates have been notified and are expected to pay for their associated fees before Friday May 27th. Exams will take place June 7th, and 8th, 2016 at PURE Academy. They will occur during the day and possibly into the evening. There is a strong possibility that students will be required to take time off of school. June 6th will be our mandatory rehearsal day for all ballet exam candidates.

Please note PURE will not send any child into an exam that is not ful-ly prepared. Students can spend several years in one grade readying themselves for examination. Ballet is the foundation of dance and PURE does not believe in pushing our students through their grades. If a stu-dent is not ready for exam in terms of memorization of exercises, or some other circumstance, they may still move up to the next level the following year depending on the artistic director’s discretion.

TAP ExAmSPURE’s 2016/2017 Tap exams were a success. Each candidate has re-ceived their medal and certificate for successfully passing their grade of tap. If you have not picked up your medal and certificate as well as your mark sheet, please see the front desk. Congratulations PURE tap dancers!

NExT STEP FORmSNext Step forms have been handed out, and if they have not, they will be very soon. PURE instructors and directors want to make sure they place each individual child in the correct class for our 2016/2017 sea-son. Please refer to your child’s next step when choosing classes for Fall registration.

2016/2017 SChEDULINg ChANgESWhen you look at the Fall schedule, you may realize a couple of changes in terms of class titles:

-Ballet Classes have been changed to the title of their actual BATD level. This creates less confusion for our families and will help dancers to iden-tify which level they are in. -All Hip Hop classes and Lyrical Classes are labeled as Mini, Junior, Inter-mediate, Teen and Senior levels (not all of these levels are available in each subject).

*Please note that the age listed beside each class is merely a guideline. Dancers train at all different levels at all different age ranges. Your child will be placed in the classroom that is best suited to their specific needs.

NEW!! PURE CLUB TEAmSPURE Club Team is a competitive team for dancers who are interested in experiencing the world of competitive dance without committing to the intensive schedules and associated costs that our Company and Crew teams abide by. Our Club Teams will compete one dance at 2 local com-petitions during the 2016/2017 Season.

Choose Your Club Team It’s up to you! What’s your favorite style of dance? Choose your Club Team based on what you want to commit to during the dance season. So, for example, if you want to be a part of PURE’s Hip Hop Club Team, you must take one recreational Hip Hop class during the week, and at-tend your 1 hour Hip Hop Club Team practice during the week. It’s that simple!

What is Required for our Club Teams?PURE Hip Hop Club Dancer1 recreational dance class in Hip Hop + 1 hour Hip Hop Club Practice

PURE Jazz Club Dancer1 recreational dance class in Jazz + 1 hour Jazz Club Practice

PURE Lyrical Club Dancer1 recreational dance class in Lyrical + 1 hour Lyrical Club Practice PURE Tap Club Dancer1 recreational dance class in Tap + 1 hour Tap Club Practice You can combine any of these options together and be a part of all 4 Club Teams should you choose that option. Each Club Team learns a competi-tion dance based on the associated genre. If you decide to be part of all 4 Club Teams, you will compete 4 dances at competitions in 2017!

Club teams will be created contingent on minimum enrolment of 6 danc-ers per team. It is our goal to have a Junior, Intermediate and Teen/Senior Club Team for each genre of dance.

ImPORTANT: ACCOUNTS Please note that all accounts must be paid in full on or before June 1st. Accounts must be paid in full prior to participating in the year end recitals.

BLENhEIm STUDIO ANNOUNCEmENTIt is with a very heavy heart and much sadness that I announce

that after 33 years I will be closing DMSDance Blenheim location. After our exams on June 8th. the studio will be closed.

This was a very difficult decision for me to make but enrollment has declined over the past several years and has now reached a point where I can no longer afford to remain open.

I want to thank all my Blenheim students and their families for your years of loyalty, support and dedication. I have enjoyed the many years of working with the children of Blenheim and watch-ing them grow into amazing adults. My dream of being a dance teacher since I was five years old was fulfilled once I opened in Blenheim. Thank you for allowing me to do that. You have all sto-len my heart. It has been an amazing and memorable 33 years. I will miss you more than you know.

NEW ThINgS hAPPENINg FOR WALLACEBURgWe will be doing some major renovations this summer to our DMSDance Wallaceburg location. Our studio will have two dance rooms, so we can offer more classes. This month’s PURE Dancer is Tori Pickering! Tori is an extremely hard worker and is always ready to give her full attention in class. Tori works to master the steps giv-en to her and is always ready for a challenge - no matter how hard it is you know she will do her very best to get it perfect. You can re-ally tell Tori loves dancing by the way she performs everyday in class. She has a real passion for it! She’s grown so much this year and we know she will keep up the good work. Tori also brightens up the classroom with her positive at-titude! She’s a joy to teach - Keep it up Tori :)

The Actor of the Month goes to

Libby Klompstra. She has really come out of her shell this year and has worked really hard to be-come an actor that listens to the other people on stage and has also worked on reacting to what is hap-pening in the scene. Libby has a great attitude in class and always offers up suggestions and ideas. Her creativity is awesome! Thanks for being such a great student!

Emilie Iwanchun has been chosen for our PURE’s Florence Dancer this month! Emilie always comes to class with a smile and is eager to learn her hip hop moves. She is the person with her hand up in the air to volunteer in class and wants to help others including her teach-ers. This award goes to Emilie for

love of dance and classroom be-haviour, she is a joy to teach and a great friend to all her classmates. Congratulations Emilie, we can’t wait to see you shine on stage!

The Wallaceburg dancer of the month goes to Colin VanWaes. Colin is hard working, fun and easy to get along with. He joined our teen jazz class in the fall and just fit right in. He is always willing to challenge himself, with a smile on his face. Colin is a joy to have in class. Keep up the great work! DMSDance is proud of you!

Blenheim dancer of the month goes to Kelsey Dodman. Kelsey has

grown tremendously as a dancer. She is focused, hard working and passionate. Her attendance is ex-cellent and she is always on time and ready for her classes. Kelsey’s joy for dance is contagious, which spreads throughout the classroom. We have loved watching you grow Kelsey. DMSDance is proud of you! Keep on dancing!

This month the PURE Heart is Brenda Borland. Brenda is very generous of her time helping out around the studio with many year end jobs that come with prepar-ing for recital. Her kind heart and helpful hands have lightened the work load for us and we can’t Thank her enough for all her help. It’s very much appreciated. :)

The PURE Month ly Awards are a way for the PURE Staf f to recogn ize deserving students . Through-out each month instructors nominate students in their respective d iscip l ines who have been demonstrating a l l of the behaviours out l ined in the Code of Conduct found at pureacademy.ca .
