Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord

Easter flower donation envelopes are

available in back of both churches. You

can make your offering in honor or in

memory of a deceased member of your

family or a friend. We will remember each

person and YOU in a special way in all our

masses during the whole Easter season.

Your Easter contribution to St. Paul and St.

Ann should be something which truly reflects

your love of God and our beautiful parish. We

respectfully ask that, this Easter, you challenge

yourself to give as generously as your financial

means allow. Special envelopes are available

in the rear of the church. Thank you, and may

God bless you and your loved ones with a truly

Blessed Easter.

What a beautiful life You have given us, Lord Jesus. Let us sing the glorious hope that comes

from Your Resurrection. With each day, but especially today, make our joy a gift

to You, a grateful acknowledgement of the love You have given us. Amen.

HAPPY EASTER! Today is a day like no other. Let’s join with all of creation, with all the holy

men and women who have gone before us, and the angels of the heavenly choir, in the song of exultation and praise the Risen Lord.

We exult in the Lord for we have received forgiveness through His name. This day He has broken the power of sin through His Resurrection. On this Easter we need to say thank you, Jesus, for we have been raised up with Him. He shares His glory with us, welcomes us as brothers and sisters in His name.

On behalf of the priests and staff of Saint Paul and St. Ann’s, I want to wish all of you a blessed Easter. Please know that our prayers are with you and your loved ones.

THANK YOU, VICKIE

St. Paul and St. Ann’s Parish would like to say thank you to Vickie Gill for her 8 years of directing the Children's Choir at St. Paul’s. She was given an opportunity to be a member of the Parish Council, and she would like to focus more on that aspect of parish service as well as other church events such as our Annual Easter Egg Hunt.

The Children's Choir, including their families, gave her a farewell party last Dec. 16.

Vickie will surely be missed in the Children's Choir. But we’re very glad that she’ll be using her many talents to benefit our parish in other ways in the future.

The St. Paul’s Children’s Choir honored their

director, Vickie Gill, at a farewell party. Shown

are Fr. Roman Palecko, Vickie, her husband,

Michael, and daughter, Michelle, and Pastor

Vladimir Chripko.

THE FEAST OF THE MADONNA

DELL’AGNENA

The Madonna dell’Agnena, is the patron saint of Vitulazio, a small town less than one hour north of Naples, Italy. Every year, the Sunday after Easter, a magnifi-cent feast is celebrated there in her honor. Records show this began in 1280!

A relic with the image of the Madonna was found on the hill of Agnena, and that’s where a

church was built for her. The church was rebuilt in 1774 and completed in 1803 and still stands in the original location.

The devotion for this Madonna is a true marvel. As some residents chose to emigrate over the years to find a better life, they carried their devotion for the Madonna with them. Our family arrived in America in the early 1950s and started a new life in Yonkers. The feast was being organized by another family at the time, and it brought great comfort to all the immigrants to be able to continue celebrating this beautiful tradition in their new homeland. Our parents, Antonio and Maria Cioppa, took over the organization of the feast in the mid 1960s when the other family moved away. For many years they continued this devotion until their death.

Today, we honor our parents’ memory, our family, and all those who continue to celebrate this beautiful faith of our beloved Madonna dell’Agnena. We invite everyone to our celebration on the Sunday after Easter, April 8, at 6 pm at St. Paul’s Church.

Dear Friends,

Each year, the many compliments I receive about our Easter Triduum liturgies show how much people appreciate them: the prayerful-

ness, the care taken by our Lectors proclaiming the Word and by the Eucharistic Ministers, the beauty of our churches decorated for

Easter, the fine quality of the music, the hospitality of the ushers, and the reverence of our well-trained altar servers. What underlies

everyone’s efforts is their love of God and the understanding that people draw closer to Him and to each other through these liturgies.

My heart is filled with gratitude for all they do.

And I am also overwhelmed with gratitude as I watch all that goes on behind the scenes of the Great Easter Triduum: those who work

quietly, ahead of time, preparing the liturgy; cleaning the worship space; scheduling liturgical ministers; preparing worship aids, the bulletin;

arranging flowers and the environment for worship; counting palm branches and tapers; ironing, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping and

dusting; hanging decorations; cleaning out pews as you leave for the people coming in for the next liturgy; and, in general, worrying about

things you'd never dream need to be worried about — but that you'd notice right away if someone hadn't worried about them!

RCIA teams meet weekly to prepare the elect and candidates for the Easter sacraments; good lectors spend time preparing to proclaim

the Word; presiders devote themselves to becoming familiar with the ritual of these days so that they might lead the congregation and

other ministers in the grace-filled rites; preachers spend hours preparing homilies; and deacons, pastoral associates, and parish staff

assist in a host of ways, not the least of which include answering phone calls, replying to emails, making lists, running copies, answering

questions, and making sure that the little things that can easily fall through the cracks, don't!

As I’ve said before, when things go well, it's often the pastor who gets the kind words and compliments but, in hundreds of ways, the

thanks should go to scores of others who work so hard to provide the time, the place, the Word, the song, and the stuff of sacraments

and rites for these holy days. Without them, there would be no Triduum at all! You know these folks in our parish. Seek them

out, speak to them after mass, call them, e-mail them, and let them know that you appreciate all they've done — because

through their work, the Lord saves His people! God bless you, and a joyous Easter to all!
