Meeting Notice
It is also refreshing to see the new hams that are com-
ing into the hobby. Kudos to those that help to teach
and prepare these new hams. A special thanks to Adri-
enne and Dan Sherwood for their countless hours as
VE‟s (Volunteer Examiners) to administer the ham
tests and prepare the results for final submission so the
new hams can get their callsigns.
I have seen some of the new hams take off and learn
beyond just “pushing the button” on their handhelds.
As I have said, there is so much to learn and so many
different directions that are open to hams, and it is ex-
citing to take a step away and talk “outside the box”.

If April showers bring May flowers? What do May flowers bring?
There are 2 answers. The first answer is “Pilgrims‟ and the other is „Field
Day”!
Indeed, it is that time of year where Field Day takes center stage. It
seems that the first part of our „Ham‟ year is in preparation for FD. A lot
goes into the planning and since I have been involved with FD, I have
learned quite a bit about ham radio as well as emergency communica-
tions.
Over the past couple of years, there have been hams that have stepped up
and volunteered to help. Last year, we had many that helped with FD
setup (which will be on Friday June 24th starting at 12 noon) and many
that helped to tear down (Sunday June 26th starting at 11am). I would
like to commend and thank those that pitched in! Without them, FD
would have been a pain in the .. (pick a place!).
This year, I would love to see that same level of support and already we
have had hams volunteer that for the first time. Let‟s keep the ball roll-
ing.
The next club meeting (May 26th) will be a Field Day discussion, plan-
ning and preparation meeting. There will be a lot discussed, ideas to be
presented and final preps made.

meeting.
Members present tonight: KG6TBR,
KG1B,WA6PZK, WA6TWT, WA6YEO,
K6GXO, KI6BKP, WA6WFC
New Business:
**Margie‟s Request:
1) Request that the club release the car-
cass of the club trailer that is standing in
the weeds at Rich Stocking's house to
Dan Rowlan KG6PQA.
It has no paper trail and if we as the club
try to re-license the trailer, it would
probably cost the club about $500-$600 in
penalty's. Therefore, I believe the club
can request that Dan donate a token $5-10
and take it off our hands. He is just going
to use it for scrap and rebuild whatever he
wishes. Dan R. also said he would contact
Rich and set up a time to go retrieve the
item himself. All the club will need to do
is notify Rich that we have made this
transaction with Dan Rowlan.
Discussion:
It was decided that the trailer be given to
Dan Rowlan for a nominal fee of
$1.00. He will be responsible for contact-
ing Rich Stocking to arrange pickup, and
he will be responsible for moving the
disabled and unregistered trailer to his
home.
Moved: Larry Mock, Seconded: Gary
Barr. Motion carried 6-0.
2) I have purchased some Field Day items
on behalf of the club that may not need a
vote. The total is $30 which includes
shipping ($5).
With that package, I have some 300 bro-
chures and ham info and some Lucite
stands ($15) and and a package of Radio
Band charts ($5)
I got these from the ARRL website. I also
have a $5 Field Day 2011 pin for the June
raffle coming in the package.
Discussion:
It was determined this was an exempt pur-
chase, and no motion was necessary.

From the VEEP...
We are ever in danger of losing
some of our HF (High Fre-
quency) allocations as there is so
much competition for the air-
waves. Most of the attacks are
along the non VHF, UHF bands,
but there is a thrust to limit even
those.
The best ways to help preserve
our bands is to use them. The
ARRL is also working from the
legislative side to keep the bands
open to hams.
While we are talking airwaves ..
a quick update on the Palmdale
Antenna ordinance. We had a
meeting back in April to revise
the existing proposed ordinance
(which can be read on our web-
site www.avarc.av.org). We are
anticipating a copy from the city
of what will be presented at the
June Palmdale City Council
meeting.
As soon as we have a copy, we
will put it on our website and
email an announcement to you.
When that happens, we encour-
age all to read it and make com-
(Continued from page 1) ments about it before it goes before
the City. As always, I can be
reached via email
([email protected]) or you can call
me at 818 237-0706 if you desire
to share your thoughts or ideas.
As a closing item, on Saturday,
May 21st, we are meeting at Keith
Hoyt‟s QTH at 8:00 am to go over
the club trailer in preparation for
FD. It will be a good learning ex-
perience and anyone who would
like to come and help is definitely
invited.
Well that about does it for this
month!
73 and Happy Hamming!
