Grants Wanted

The AV Chess House is soliciting grants to bring chess clubs to Antelope Valley schools. The SAY YES TO CHESS program, as a non-profit via an MOU with Grace Resource Center, is working to provide the benefits of chess club participation to as many AV children and youth as possible. Chess clubs provide a positive, structured atmosphere which prevents kids from getting into trouble in an unsupervised environment. In addition, participation in a chess club has numerous academic and life skills benefits including those in the box at right. Scholastic Chess Clubs typically meet once a week for 22 weeks and each meeting is typically 90 minutes long. To run such a club successfully requires about $4000/school/year. Costs include the coach’s fee, chess sets for each family of chess club members, end-of-year Pizza Party/Awards Ceremony, etc. A more detailed list of expenses is available upon request. If you or your organization would care to sponsor one or more Scholastic Chess Clubs in the Antelope Valley, please contact [email protected] If you are a part of a Foundation or Organization, the SAY YES TO CHESS program will be happy to go through the application process.
