Beyond Timeshare

We like to know that no matter which one of our resorts youchoose to visit, you will have an experience that is unique anda cut above any other. Which is why it is a priority for us atMagicBreakaways to keep our fingers on the pulse of what ishappening in our industry.

Of late, we have seen a shift in the public’s perception of thetimeshare industry at large. While negative perceptions viewtimeshare as a dying industry, the American ResortDevelopment Association’s (ARDA) State of the VacationTimeshare Industry United States Study 2013 said: “Travel andtourism is one of the world’s largest industries, supporting260 million jobs and generating 9 percent of the world’s GDP.And there are about 1,540 timeshare resorts in the UnitedStates, representing about 192,420 units.”

In short this highlights that reports of the death of timeshareare highly exaggerated. But the timeshare industry is andalways has been a mercurial one, where one of the onlyconstants is change and although change is sometimes slowto come, when it does it really shakes up the industry as weknow it.

2 3

We need to make sure we reach you!Are you really you?Are we speaking to you?Do you get your MagicBreakaways news from us?If you aren’t sure we need to get some details from you.

Lets take a step back in time. In the 80s you bought yourtimeshare as an investment for your children and to enjoy afamiliar family holiday. We liked the familiarity and preferredthe personal touch associated with knowing the people wespent our holidays with. In the 90s the points system crept in,providing something else we were craving: flexibility. However,it was more a figurative flexibility than a literal one.We then saw the cycle swing back to a part ownership wherecomfort in familiarity was once again a key factor. Customersfor the most part treated their “timeshare” home much liketheir own homes.

But as things moved on, the points system slowly but surelystarted falling out of public favour with questions being raisedabout how these schemes are being managed, what theytranslate to and whether they are meeting the expectationsof customers.

So where are we now? We are seeing a growing desire fromcustomers to rekindle the notion of flexibility when it comesto their timeshare investment. Perhaps it is a sign of the timesbut customers want to mix things up, enjoy differentexperiences and for the most part experience new destinations. This is great for us as we are able to offer customers access toa host of properties, across multiple regions encapsulatingeverything from a bush to a sea holiday.

How can you make this a reality? By taking advantage of theMBExchange programme which once again gives you themuch-needed flexibility demanded from timeshare businessesin the modern era, while still providing all the certainty andcomforts of home.

Last but certainly not least, I hope you enjoy this our 37th issueof Chit Chat and I would also like to take this time to wish allour owners a very happy and safe holiday season. Wishing youall well into 2015!

RegardsPeter

Elements Update!

A new road, improved communication withowners and visitors and an end to the watercrisis key to the new found success at Elements

Situated just 90 minutes north of Pretoria, nestled in theWaterberg bushveld region of Limpopo is Elements PrivateGolf Reserve. This malaria-free haven provides the perfectrespite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Elements providesthe delicate balance of a Peter Matkovich Championship GolfCourse Estate with the exquisite backdrop of a wildlife reserveand is in the process of improving the already breath taking reserve.

Watch this space“Elements is focused on the future and is getting into gearwhen it comes to creating publicity around the stunning estate. The reserve is implementing ‘meet and greets’ that allowcommunication with guests prior to their arrival to ensure thatevery guest’s unique needs are met,” says Ian Watson from Elements.

According to Watson, the objective is to generate more feeton site and it is with this in mind that the estate has placed astrong focus on creating exciting events on and offsite for itspatrons to enjoy. It is all about creating the perfect experiencewhether guests just come to play golf or stay the night.

Ideas that are in play, but not set in stone, at the momentinclude having offsite events and shows to open people’s eyesto the beauty and benefits of Elements. The reserve is alsolooking at hosting or co-sponsoring golf days for charity.“Onsite, the focus lies in creating a space where people

passionate about golf can enjoy their sport with the entirefamily. Golf clinics over weekends, for children and adults alikeand perhaps even mountain bike races are on the cards.Elements understands that it is imperative to care for thewhole family and is striving toward creating not only a familyfriendly environment but an environment that caters to eachindividual’s needs. It is something we are really looking forwardto,” he adds.

For owners and the future“At a point Elements did have its challenges, challenges webelieve have now been addressed and will be addressed by anumber of us being on site permanently. We are engagingwith owners and visitors and trying to ascertain what we cando to help and how we can better communicate with everyoneon a regular basis”.

Watson says that the upgrading of the road at Elements PrivateGolf Reserve will be getting underway soon and the previouswater woes are a thing of the past.

“The Estate is hoping for a very wet rainy season that willbenefit the area tremendously as it has experienced a dry spellfor the last four years. But irrespective of this, the allocationof water pumps and pipes has been dramatically increasedand strategically placed in order to ensure lush greens and anaesthetically pleasing golfing experience for all visitors - notto mention our owners,” ends Watson.

Don’t forget to diarise a visit to Elements to see all of thesechanges at play!

Along with the repositioning ofthe Kruger boundary fence, therehave been several exciting developments at Elephant Point recently, including the completion of management offices, and of coursethe comings and goings of some spectacular wildlife.

Phase one of the development comprises 25 stands, 18 of which have already been sold with a number of pending prospects beingworked on. As of November this year, lodges 13, 22 and 23 are complete, with lodges 18 and 19 nearing completion.

The owners who have occupied Lodge 13 are extremely satisfied with their investment. There has been a tremendously positive responseto the property and as a result off-plan sales of the next fractional lodge (lodge 14) were launched recently. The first four fractionswere sold within seven days of the launch. Management at Elephant Point sincerely hopes that the positive trend continues.

A wild experienceElephant Point has been living up to its name and has had numerous visits from large groups of elephants that have come to check

out the progress on the new lodges. There has been a visit from a pride offour lions that made Elephant Pointtheir home for a while which caused abit of a problem as labourers were onsite at the time. Most of these lionshave returned to the Kruger NationalPark but one has remained and his roarat night resounds around the property.

The zebra have flocked to the propertyand meander around enjoying thefoliage. Camcorders have been set uparound the property and we havephotos of bushbuck, leopard, honeybadgers and kudu.

New management coupleElephant Point has welcomed Georgevan Deventer as estate manager alongwith his partner Marlene Janse vanRensburg. He joins Elephant Point fromhis previous position at Centurion LakeHotel and comes highly recommended.

George is well suited to fill his role at Elephant Point with his strongtechnical background that will enable him to ensure that all thebasic services such as water, electricity and sewage are dealt withefficiently and effectively.

George is all this as well as a qualified paramedic with hands-onexperience from working in Iran. Marlene joined MagicBreakawayson the 1 October 2014.
