Theme!!

Always tell the truth because if you do not, your lies will come back to haunt you. Lies will only cause trouble while the truth has some good embedded in it. In the story, if the women would have admitted that she had lost the necklace, her friend would have been upset and wouldn’t have let her borrow jewelry again! However, because she lied, she spent her entire life paying off a necklace that wasn’t even worth 500 francs.

Plot Chart!!!

• Characters- Mrs. Loisel and Mr. Loisel, Madam Forestier.

• Setting- France• Theme- Always tell the truth because if you

don’t, your lies will come back to haunt you.• Basic Situation- Mrs. Loisel borrowed a necklace

from a friend but lost it and had to replace it.• Internal Conflict- Mrs. Loisel hated being poor

and not having nice things.

• 3rd person omniscient- narrator that knows everything about the characters and events and may reveal details that the characters themselves could not reveal. They are not a character in the story.

Digging Deeper…• This story is a lot like the movie “Shark Tale”. In Shark

Tale, Oscar wants to live the high life on top of the reef being “somebody”. He wants it so bad and he doesn’t notice until later when he had lost everything and he realizes that what he wanted and needed all along was right in front of him. (Angie) In “The Necklace”, the woman had a great husband, a reasonable home, and a good way of life. However, she blew it off just to be beautiful, desired. What she didn’t realize was that she was desired by her husband, beautiful among others in the street, and popular with all her friends. She was blinded by dreams of which she was already living!
