LUNA REYQUINN JACKSON
THE ARTIST NAMES
LUNA REY
Because our chosen song features two artists (a male and female, it means that two names needed to be
created therefore we featured out attention first on creating a female name as she has the majority of the
singing time in our video so it made more sense for us to give our female artist a name. We knew we
wanted a short name that consists of two words much like Dua Lipa and Ella Eyre have, who happened to
be some of our inspiration; we had several ideas on names we like-
India Lily- This name was unique and had the ability to suit the themes we had in mine as it matched the
intended image however as more ideas came about this one felt quite generic as a few other artists within
our genre had the same kind of name, this was similar to why we didn’t name her Indie/ Indy Rey.
Violet Reign- Violet suited our artist very well, and we thought it conformed to the mainstream audience
that would listen to our artist because of the pop flares that is heard in our song ‘lost in your light’. However
in the end we preferred Luna Rey over Violet Reign as it felt more ideal for what kind of image we were
creating.
This name Luna was brought up in conversation after we decided on the song ‘lost in your light’ as we wanted a name that
matched the songs sound and style and Luna has related to light and space which was ironic and after discussing what
names we liked Luna became a firm favourite and than became the ideal name. Having Rey as the second noun in the
name was linked to the idea that our artist is a ray of light in the mainstream music industry- and relates to the idea of light
being a key concept, but to add some uniqueness we changed the spelling to have an ‘E’ instead of a ‘A’ to add a signature
trademark.
QUINN JACKSON
For our male artist, we wanted a name that sounded indie and casual much like the males voice in the
song. The males name would be double barrelled just like out female artists would; we wanted a classic
sounding name that matched the intender persona of the male being a relaxed, care free person who has
the ability to creative musical talent naturally. We wanted the last name to be ‘Jackson’ therefore finding a
first name that would match the Jackson name was the main target; we like-
Jonah James Jackson- The name Jonah James sounded really cool and matched the criteria we like as it
sounded very well suited because of the alliteration when said out loud however as more names were
suggested, especially Quinn, we decided that it suited more a different artist than what we wanted therefore
didn’t chose it.
Jonas Jackson- Similarity to Jonah, the sound suited the last name and conformed to what kind of sound
we liked but other names sounded more effective with what we were creating in terms of the overall image
and as we began casting the male we have now decided to make our male singer, we felt the name didn’t
suit the face therefore wasn’t chosen.
Quinn became our chosen name as it suited the criteria, theme and person we wanted to play Quinn
therefore became the obvious option for us to name him.
