Some words are tricky to learn to spell. Sometimes using mnemonics can help you. A

mnemonic is a pattern of letters, ideas or association which helps you to remember

something. Have a look at ones below. Could you make up your own for any words that

you find really tricky?

Page 19: The Magic Paintbrush Maths Term 6 Week 4 White Rose Maths ... · The Magic Paintbrush Term 6 Week 4 English This week we are going to be doing some descriptive writing. The main focus

Another useful trick is to look at the word shape. Look at this week’s spellings and also use

the common exception words list from Week 2 (p14 of Week 2 pack). Find some words you

are finding it tricky to remember. Then write them out and draw the word shapes around

them. Have a go at filling in the missing letters. Remember ot use the spelling strategies in

your spelling journal to help you too.

Science: Forces

Here are some ideas to this week.

• Drop balls from different heights and measure how high they bounce.

• Catapult plastic tubs across the room using elastic bands. What is the effect of pulling the band back different amounts or using thicker elastic bands? (Check this activity with an adult first and make sure you do it safely!)

If you have a balloon, a toy car and a straw you could try this experiment:

Some questions to think about:

What happens when you let go of the straw?

How far did the car go? Can you count the footsteps it takes to reach it?

How could you make your car go further?

How could you make your car go less far?

How does the vehicle travel differently if the balloon is blown up different amounts?
