On Wednesday 23 March, 2016 students are asked to try and wear something orange as a symbol of peace and harmony. If any student wishes to wear their traditional national dress we encourage them to do so. We are planning to hold a multicultural food tasting event for the students in each classroom at 1pm, and would appreciate it if families could send along a labelled dish of food in the morning to share at lunch. If you do wish to make a hot dish, please assist by bringing it up to your child’s classroom by 12:30pm as we have limited heating facilities. Children are asked to bring a plastic /paper dish or plate and spoon to use on the day. Parent helpers to assist with sharing lunch on the day would be appreciated. If you can help, please indicate below. After lunch the students will be doing a variety of language activities relating to Harmony Day and its importance. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT—WEEK 7 Congratulations to our school teams who took part in the

Literacy Quiz challenge held last Friday. One of our school

teams was successful in winning this regional event and will

now be moving onto the National final in Sydney later this

term. Well done to all students on being outstanding

representatives of Armidale City Public School, you should

be very proud of your efforts. Thank you to parents and

teachers for supporting the participation of our students in

this event.

We have had students representing Armidale City Public

School at North West swimming and tennis during the last

week. Well done to students on their efforts – again you

are all wonderful representatives of our school and

congratulations on your achievements.

We had a very productive P&C meeting last Wednesday.

Thank you to all members for coming along and contributing

to the discussions. The P&C has a number of events coming

up and are always looking for new members to become

involved. The next P&C meeting will be the Annual General

Meeting and will be held on Wednesday, 6 April in the

library from 6.30pm. Our School Council will meet next

Monday, 14 March from 7pm. All council members are

encouraged to attend.

Parents and family members are reminded that if they

volunteer in any capacity at the school they should complete

the volunteer working with children check which can be done

online and then completed at the RTA. This includes if you

assist with transport for an excursion. The working with

children check is a NSW legislative requirement and copy of

each check must be kept on file at school. If you have any

questions regarding the process please contact the School

Office.

Thank you to parents for their positive support of our

school and for the assistance you provide in ensuring our

students have great educational opportunities. It is vital we

work together and the staff at Armidale City Public School

is committed to working with parents in a constructive

manner. If you would like to have a conversation at any time

with your child’s teacher, please contact the School Office

to arrange a mutually convenient time. Following this

procedure helps staff plan their week and teaching time can

have the first priority. We thank parents and families for

their support with this.

Please feel free to send me an email at any time on the

address below. Have a great week everyone. Mr Matt Hobbs

KINDER RED NEWS Wow, we cannot believe how quickly this term has gone

already! Kinder Red have settled into their class and school

routines with gusto and made lots of new friends along the

way.

It has been a very busy term and it amazes me how well

Kinder Red are following our school routines and enjoying

extra activities such as Crazy Hair Day and the Life

Education Van visit. We learnt lots of new things about

healthy living from our visit to Healthy Harold on Monday

and had lots of fun too!

We are learning about our You Can Do It keys and how we

use them both in the classroom and the playground. We are

focusing on using our ‘Getting Along’ key and learning how to

get along nicely in work and play activities.

In the classroom Kinder Red are focusing on learning the

letter names and sounds of the alphabet and how to write

each letter correctly, as this helps us become better

writers. In guided writing we had lots of fun writing about

‘Octopuppy’ by Martin McKenna. We also got to make our

own Octopuppy. If you

haven’t seen them yet, come

into Kinder Red and have a

look!

I am so proud of KR’s effort

and can’t wait to see the

amazing work they do next! Kinder Red and Mrs Kelsall

CLASS NEWS 5/6J We are super busy in 5/6J with students learning and

reflecting on a number of KLA’s. Students worked on a small

research task on Charities during our computer sessions and

presented their chosen charity to the class. Many of the

presentations were full of important information like what

their charity does and how we can help support the specific

charity. Some charities included RSPCA and Camp Quality.

In maths we have been working on 3D shapes with the

students working in small groups to create a variety of 3D

shapes. Students have built, drawn and labelled hexagonal,

triangular and octagonal prisms as well as comparing prisms

and pyramids.

We have also been walking to the Gymnastics Centre every

second Friday for sport. We are learning lots of great skills

and having a great time on the equipment. Each visit we

complete a number of skills and rotate around the centre.

Last week we got to use the climbing wall and the

trampolines along with the foam pit which is a favourite!!
