“The Knitted Bible is the loveltest thing I
have ever seen”

In 2012 we borrowed ‘the Knitted Bible’ from St
George’s URC in Hartlepool.
We organised local primary schools to see the
exhibition, then invited everyone else in the evenings and at the
weekend.

unique and fascinating exhibition

CHEESE AND WINE EVENINGon
Thursday 12th and Friday 13th March, 6-8pm
EVERYONE WELCOME
In 2013 we knitted some more stories of our own
and in the next two years a craft group developed
who created our own ‘Knitted Bible’.
They are njoyed…
…by all ages
“I’m amazed at what I see, it touches me and
helps me larn”
The stories are written on ‘paddles’ in simple,
straightforward language
“I just love the Knitted Bible – I wish I could
stay all day”
“I loved the part when Jesus died then came
back”
“I found some of the Jewish stories!”
Look – Moses!
In 2014 we added:
The crossing of the Red Sea, with Egyptians,
horses and chariots….
and ‘rabble”
“I like Escape from Egypt because its cool”
In 2015 we made the Sermon on the Mount, with the lost coin, lost
sheep and lost son stories.
“I knew that god didn’t give up even tho it was only one
sheep”.
“A very interesting exhibiton that had us all asking lots of questions and wanting to find out

Next year we are planning the overturning
of the tables in the Temple, with 100 flying
pigeons,
and the Pool of Bethesda, with water feature.
What the Knitted Bible has done for us
• The local community know us
• Children (and parents) been introduced to Bible stories and pondered their meaning
• We have a new relationship with local schools
• A new craft group’s been created
• It’s a resource for other churches
• You’re never short of visual aids for a childrens’ talk!
• It’s got the local church engaged in mission
