Wednesday 26th July Philippines:- Pastor Buddy Espante and Pastor Wennie Manila report that the miners children have received Christmas boxes through Operation Christmas Child. These children were able to attend classes at Joyful Church Assembly Calagasan Argao where they learned lessons from the Bible for three days, and received certificates and Bibles. Please pray for them as they continue on their journeys to maturity – physical and especially spiritually that the Word will take root and grow in their lives. Thursday 27th July Philippines:- Pastor Buddy Espante and Pastor Wennie Manila thank all supporters for their continued financial support and really appreciate prayers for safe travelling to the remote mine sites and for the protection and blessings on their families. Friday 28th July The Migori County Artisanal Mining Co-operative is collaborating with our Trustee Terry Garde on his PhD research. Please pray that God will bless them both in their endeavours whether they be underground or in the libraries of Oxford! Saturday 29th July Zimbabwe: - Rev Pardon Chingovo of ‘Mine Ministry’ is thankful for the unhindered access to the hospitals of the mining areas. Through preaching and spiritual counselling the patients open up the hearts to the love of the Lord Jesus and decide to follow Him. What a joy to see the peace of God entering their souls. Sadly some of those who are sick died, but they go home to Jesus. Please pray earnestly for this ministry. Sunday 30th July South Africa:- Please pray for Isaac Njali, who has shown his willingness to serve as a facilitation for the Miners’ Bible School course among the Xhosa speaking gold miners. He is currently helping six new believers who are growing in the knowledge and grace of the Lord in his community. THE INTERNATIONAL MINERS’ MISSION

JUNE—JULY 2017

I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known. Habakkuk 3:2

Thursday 1st June Stuart Burns (IMM USA) writes, “Prayer is a partnership, a joint business venture with God, the business of heaven and interceding for those who don't know Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. Let's each of us

search our hearts and find out where we stand with God!”

Friday 2nd June IMM South Africa is already very active in reaching out to some of the hundreds of thousands of gold and platinum miners in the Johannesburg and Rustenburg area. Please continue to pray that hearts will be softened and among believers there will be a greater desire to share the

Saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Saturday 3rd June This month Pastor Elijah Dube (IMM South Africa) and Stuart Burns (IMM USA) will be visiting Welkom, a mining town in Free State, South Africa less than 100 miles from Bloemfontein where there has recently been a call for a prayer meeting to which 1.7 people million responded. (See YouTube - South Africa prayer meeting April 2017). In Welkom, there are Gold Miners who have never been reached with the Gospel by IMM. Pray with us for a door of opportunity to share Christ with them now and in the

future.

Sunday 4th June Michael Jarvis, Vicky Yorke, Katherine and Alan Rushen, Ian and Ronna Dring, Chloe, Fern and Rebecca were delighted to meet some of our supporters while displaying our International Miners’ Mission stand at ‘Spring Harvest’ Christian Meeting at Minehead. We had some great conversations and also received some potential leads which may lead to more miners in Bulgaria and Tanzania being ‘Introduced to the Master’ through

IMM.

Monday 5th June The political climate in Burundi shows little sign of improving and there is much anger and violence especially amongst the youth. IMM sponsored Etienne and Chantal use different strategies to reach into the mining communities providing Good News Clubs for the kids, football for the youth and Discover Groups for adult miners. Thank God for this creative couple who have such a

heart for lost souls.

Tuesday 6th June Sierra Leone:- Pastor Dennis Mannah writes that he continues to show the Jesus film in the surrounding villages in remote and rural areas. Often the whole village community gathers to see the film asking questions and joining in discussion about it. Please pray for these hearts hungry for Jesus and for a softening

in others that there will be a rich harvest of souls for the Kingdom.

Wednesday 7th June Moriba Town. Please pray that the Lord will raise up workers in this area of Sierra Leone, a large mining area with great spiritual needs. Jayne (IMM facilitator - in partnership with UFM) writes that they run a part-time Bible School in Freetown and are praying that the hearts of some of the students will be touched to

minister in this area. Let us support them in this prayer.

Thursday 8th June IMM UK Trustee, John Doohan has been unwell recently and has had to wait in considerable pain for a few months for surgery. Please pray that his surgery will be successful and he will recover quickly. Also please remember John’s

wife Christine at this difficult time.

Friday 9th June Bolivia:- Florentino (aged 87) has been in the Lord’s service planting churches and encouraging discipleship and taking the Gospel to miners for many years. He is now struggling with very poor health and is frustrated that he is no longer able to actively share his love of the Lord. Please pray that he will experience His Lord’s comfort in this difficult time. Pray also for his daughter and grand-daughter, who

are both caring for him.

Saturday 10th June Zimbabwe:- (Kadoma) Kelvin Chipangura is a young and enthusiastic pastor/evangelist with a heart of compassion for the mining communities where families are trapped in poverty. He does hospital visiting, open-air evangelism, carries out home visits and gets involved in helping the street children. ‘The Lord is wonderfully at work here in Kadoma. Many people come along to house groups to

study the Bible and pray.’

Sharing the Word

11

Friday 21st July South Africa:- Pastor Patrick Langa and his wife Julia are very active in Boitekong community where they lead a thriving church. Julia is the Principal of a five class junior school within the church compound and there is also a pre-school nursery for babies of 3 months or older. Many of the children are HIV Aids orphans. Thank the Lord for Patrick’s energy and vision and for his loving serving

heart for this community.

Saturday 22nd July Japan:- Exactly 100 years ago this year Miss Marguerite Amy Burnet first set foot on Japanese soil. She volunteered for work as a missionary for the Japan Evangelistic Band. Shortly afterwards she decided to undertake the supervision of the Miners’ Mission station in the copper mining town of Ashio, where she worked faithfully for many years, seeing many saved and the witness expand in that part of Japan. Praise God that the church in Ashio is still witnessing to the grace of the Lord

Jesus Christ to this day!

Sunday 23rd July Japan:- Recent research has revealed that less than 0.5% of Japanese people are thought to be Christians. Please pray for those in Japan who are still seeking to reach all areas of Japanese society with the Gospel of Good News. There is a great need to equip young Christians to take over the leadership. We also thank God that we are able to maintain a link with the church organisation in Japan that

grew out of the work done in Ashio.

Monday 24th July The IMM UK Trustees Michael, David, Ian, Tim, Vicky, John, Terry, and Paul, ask for your prayerful support as they seek to locate new mission fields and manage funds available to the IMM wisely. Worldwide there are millions of miners living in remote areas who have had no exposure to the Word of the Lord. Please pray that doors of opportunity will open and that they will know the Lord’s

leading that more miners will be saved.

Tuesday 25th July Philippines:- Pastor Loven and Pastor Roland write how good God is to them. They value the prayers of IMM supporters and give praise to God that there have not been any accidents or incidents in the mines recently. Praise the Lord

for His love and protection.

Pastor Patrick Langa and His wife Julia

Sunday 16th July Ukraine:- Please continue to pray for the return of peace in Eastern Ukraine and the breakdown of barriers and healing of hatred between the people of the region. Vasiliy, Alexander K., Alexy B, Andrey and Christina, value our prayers as they seek to minister to all those in need including refugees, displaced soldiers, homeless, addicts, going also into the prison and the hospital. The darker the world gets the brighter the light of the Lord Jesus shines through those

who love Him and live to serve Him.

Monday 17th July We pray for God’s good work in Uganda where IMM trustee Terry Garde was earlier this year assisting the artisanal miners there to go fully mercury free in processing gold using equipment donated for these trials. The use of this mercury

free equipment is very important for East Africa where gold mines border Lake Victoria.

Tuesday 18th July South Africa:- Pastor Mohau leads a congregation at the ‘Sheep Gate Church in Ikageng along with his wife Bulelwa. Pray for good health for them. Along with Solly, the pastor of Reconciliation Ministries Church, they are passionate

supporters of the Miners Bible School to train and equip leaders for local churches.

Wednesday 19th July South Africa:- Pastor Andrew Mayathulla leads a thriving congregation in Freedom Park, a large estate where miners live who work in the surrounding platinum mines. They are hoping that plans to replace the corrugated iron church and have a new more robust building that doesn’t leak will soon commence.

Please pray.

Thursday 20th July Ethiopia:- Praise the Lord for vision and passion for souls around the Shakiso area. Beletew tells us that there is a huge harvest field and many are being saved and also that they have a program to establish more churches and preaching points. The ‘Victory Training Centre’ is a dream which when realised would serve as a training and empowerment centre for missionaries and church leaders in the mining area and beyond. Please pray for this exciting venture that the Lord would have His hand upon it and guide those He has placed in position of leadership and

authority as to the way forward.

Sunday 11th June Zimbabwe:- Pastor Kelvin met three women who had been involved for 10 years as prostitutes, simply because there was no other way for them to survive. Praise God, as they listened to the Pastor they surrendered their lives to Jesus. ‘I witnessed how Jesus has worked in their lives and they are now growing in their new-found faith in the Lord. To God be all the praise!’ Please pray that these

ladies will remain faithful followers of Jesus.

Monday 12th June Ukraine:- This is the time of year for summer camps. Please pray for every child who will be able to attend that they will experience the Saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the midst of this war torn part of the world may the camps be a place of safety, good fun and a place where new relationships are formed and deepened both with the Lord and others. Pray for the leaders for energy and creativity.

Some £200 of funding is still needed.

Tuesday 13th June Kenya:- Please pray for the Reverend Captain Simon Okoyo of Miner to Miner Ministries and his wife Dorothy who lost their recently born son Harry to malaria. Life is hard for miners and their communities, not only in winning of gold as artisanal miners but also for their general wellbeing in disease prone areas where

mining often occurs.

Wednesday 14th June Pray for the Rodrigues’ ministry to the Mozambican Portuguese speaking miners working in South Africa. They will be soon joined by another single missionary who is currently learning Portuguese and is willing to come to Rustenburg every weekend to make himself available for developing a ministry

particularly with the existing group in Luka mining village.

Thursday 15th June Ukraine:- Andrey writes:- “Regularly we visit prisons in Toretsk and Bakhmut. We work there with lifelong prisoners and prison administration also. We have finished fixing the prison prayer room for services with prisoners there. Every week we visit the TB hospital, and we have services there too. Also we help prisoners with food and medication if it is possible. Over seven years of our visits some of them repented and some have died. There are many TB patients among drug addicts and alcoholics. But the hand of our Saviour is visible - He gives salvation to any sinner if he turns to Him sincerely. So we help them and we are happy of the fact God uses us and

you in this ministry”.

Friday 16th June South Africa:- Patrick Langa is a man with a vision and a passion, and has already acquired a double plot for a community ministry to reach out into the platinum mining community next to the Pretoria-Sun city highway in Legalong township. Pray that Holy Spirit will guide him as he has decisions to make and that he

will see the Lord’s provision of all the resources required.

Saturday 17th June Bolivia:- Ruben Paco heads up IMM’s work in Bolivia. He has recently suffered ill health and asks for our prayers that he will experience the healing touch of the Lord. Ruben has built relationships with several churches, key individuals in the area including the mining cooperatives, and discipleship programs are underway. Pray that he will know the Lord’s guiding as he

seeks to share his love of the Lord.

Sunday 18th June Ukraine:- Andrey writes “During the time of our Chasov Yar Rehabilitation Centre, we have started three other Rehab centres - in Mangush, Barvenkovo and Bakhmut. And we still work in this direction because many men need our help here. For the entire life of the Centre more than 40 people have been baptized! This year 6 brothers are preparing for baptism. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord for

lives changed and pray for ongoing spiritual growth in those going for baptism”.

Monday 19th June Ukraine:- Thank the Lord for Andrey and Christina who manage the rehab centre at Chasov Yar, that He has blessed them with love and compassion. Pray that they will see even more fruit from this ministry of love to those who have reached rock bottom as they turn their lives over to the Saviour, Jesus Christ and are

delivered from drug and alcohol addictions

Tuesday 20th June Bolivia:- Andres Negretty writes about his difficulty in discipling believing miners and encouraging them in Bible Study. Please pray that he will be encouraged and see fruit from his labours. The spiritual atmosphere is hard in Bolivia with many miners worshipping the Tio (god of the underground believed to protect miners). Pray that the love of the Lord Jesus Christ will break through bringing light to

this spiritually dark mining area.

Tuesday 11th July Ethiopia:- Beletew, IMM facilitator writes; “There is growth of our churches in the mining region and there is a lot to be done. Praise be to the Lord for his guidance and empowerment to enable our church pastors to advance the Lord’s Kingdom. The churches in Shakiso region are at the stage of expansion. Therefore, we are so grateful and delighted for our past, present and future partnership in the work of

the kingdom of the Lord with IMMUK. May the Lord bless you in abundance!”

Wednesday 12th July Zimbabwe:- Rev Pardon Chingovo reports on the success of the Children’s Camps that have been held in the last few weeks. Over 200 young people from the mining areas attended and there was much blessing as children and young people played games, enjoyed good food and took part in sessions of teaching from the Bible. The IMM Swiss Committee are committed to underwriting these camps.

Thank God for this provision.

Thursday 13th July Philippines:- Please pray for Peter Roberston and his team in Perth, Australia, as they work tirelessly to raise funds for the support of the work of evangelism to miners and mining communities in the Philippines. Please pray for more Christians to become interested in the ministry to miners, so that the support and

prayer may grow.

Friday 14th July Romania: The Word of the Lord says to Israel; ‘I have called you by your name. you are Mine!’ (Isaiah 43.1). Pray that Daniel, Samuel, Aurel, Mihai and Marin, will also hear the still small voice of the Lord whispering this encouragement and strengthening their spirits. Pray that Holy Spirit will go before them preparing

hearts to hear the Gospel.

Saturday 15th July The greatest joy we had at Spring Harvest was meeting some of our supporters. We would really value the opportunity to meet more of our partners. If you would like us to visit your church or fellowship group please contact David Shillitoe. We value your prayers and encouragement and would love to share in more detail with you the testimonies and indeed the challenges and joys from our sponsored pastors

and evangelists.

Pastors, Loven Largo, Wenceslao Manila, Roland Omandac and Peter Robertson (IMM Pacific Rim)

Thursday 6th July Sierra Leone – Pastor Dennis is ably supported by his wife, Mariama, who is a tremendous help to him in the church – a real pastor’s wife. Please pray for her as she raises the children to learn to love and follow the Lord Jesus. Indeed, we pray for all the wives of our sponsored pastors/evangelists as

they faithfully work for the Lord.

Friday 7th July Burundi in East Africa has suffered a prolonged drought and for many unofficial artisanal gold mining is their only livelihood at this time. Burundi remains one of the hungriest countries in the world. Half the children under the age of 5 suffer from

chronic malnutrition. Please pray for Etienne and Chantal in these challenging days.

Saturday 8th July South Africa:- Elijah Dube values our prayers and support as he gets involved with open air evangelism. Elijah is passionate about sharing his faith with miners and encouraging them in their walk of study and discipleship. Elijah is hoping that there will be new opportunities to reach miners around Welkom south west of Johannesburg. Pray that everyone concerned will know the Lord’s guidance and

provision.

Sunday 9th July Zimbabwe:- Please continue to pray for Rev. Elias Katiyo, serving in the mining communities of Mashava, Mokotosi and Zvishavane. “I was staggered to learn at the beginning of the year that the once flourishing and important mines here have been closed. The alarm of the miners is impossible to describe. They have given their lives for years working. No-one is listening – families suffer hunger and great poverty. Unemployment has reached an all time high. Please pray that God in His

mercy will look in pity on these people we are trying to help.”

Monday 10th July Zimbabwe:- Pastor Pardon Chingovo, who leads the ‘Mine Ministry’ team is rejoicing that Evangelist Tafadzwa Chikudo has joined them full time as pastor in West Nicholson and Gwanda churches. Pardon is involved in training Tafadzwa to get experience in the many tasks in overseeing the ministry in this area where asbestos, gold and chrome mines are situated. Since starting his work Tafadzwa has seen 21 people give their lives to Christ. He is full of joy and very

encouraged. So are we! Hallelujah!

Dennis with Mariama (L) and his family

5

Wednesday 21st June Romania:- Marian writes; “Between 28 April and 1 May, we had some evangelistic actions at Targu-Jiu, Curtişoara and Sâmbotin, together with a Belgian mission group (in fact, they were believers from Burundi, Congo, France and Belgium, who wanted an exchange of experiences on how we do Mission in Romania). There was a time when the Lord blessed us with personal testimonies, messages, and songs. Everything for His glory!” Pray that there

will be ongoing growth from this shared experience for everyone who was involved.

Thursday 22nd June Thank God for the ongoing and stable evangelism, discipleship and church planting in IMM South Africa, including the Miners Bible School. Elijah is involved in all three things, including church planting in Simunye, a mining town dead centre with three gold mines only a few miles apart. The work is slowly getting off the

ground, and Elijah is staying very busy as interim pastor there.

Friday 23rd June Stuart Burns (IMM USA) and his wife Cherry are visiting South Africa. Stuart is visiting IMM SA missionaries to get their latest news on their outreach to miners and their families on or near the mines, in open air evangelism, Bible studies, church involvement, hospital visitation and personal work. Please pray for them, as

Stuart encourages them in their witness for Christ.

Saturday 24th June Romania:- Pastor Marian and his wife, Gabi write: “We are, as you know, intensely involved in preaching the Gospel in our area, travelling weekly, to mining communities like Sambotin, Targu-Carbunești, Prigoria, and Floresteni. We have a number of people who are wanting to be baptised this autumn. Please pray for them and also that even more will come forward, and that the Holy Spirit will be

drawing hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ”.

Sunday 25th Ethiopia:- Beletew (IMM advisor) informs us that at the end of March the massive garbage dump in Koshe, just outside Addis Ababa, suddenly collapsed “like a flood” covering houses and killing many families who had returned home in the evening. Please pray for all those who lost their lives - some of whom were Church

members - that all those bereaved will find the comfort of the Lord Jesus.

Monday 26th June Romania:- Christian miner Daniel asks: ‘Please pray for us missionaries among miners. Until recently it was possible to evangelize openly, but doors are closing’. Pray that the Lord will supernaturally provide opportunities for Daniel and his fellow missionaries and pastors to share the Gospel with the miners and their families. Pray that they will be encouraged and that the Lord will give them

creative strategies to reach places of hopelessness, fear, and despair.

Tuesday 27th June Peru:- Roberto Masca and Rene Churata continue to visit the high Andes mountains mining areas of Orcopampa and Condori. They freely distribute tracts at bus stops, visit in homes, encourage the local churches. We thank God for their faithfulness over many years. Pray against feelings of loneliness as they are sometimes away from home up to two weeks at a time. Thank God for Santos Valero

and his capable oversight.

Wednesday 28th June Ukraine:- The war in Ukraine has been going on for three long years and there is no sign of it coming to an end. Please continue to pray for strengthened faith and encouragement for Alexander, Vasiliy, Alexy B. and other active passionate believers who in spite of all spend their lives telling refugees about the Lord Jesus, giving them spiritual and physical food, and helping wherever they

can.

Thursday 29th June Bolivia:- The Horita Feliz (Happy Hour) ministry among children in Catavi, a tin mining area, continues to flourish and there are now two regular meetings. Praise the Lord that their support is fully covered by two USA supporters, a couple of Christians and a church in Alabama. Children are growing in their faith and witnessing to their older siblings and parents. Praise God for the faithful ministry of leaders Elisa Flores and

Arminda Mamani.

Friday 30th June Bolivia:- Thank God for provision for Beatriz Ajhuacho's foot surgery from the UK, and now wisdom is needed to know which is the best route to take. We await advice from the field. Nicolas and Beatriz are gaining acceptance with many small mining operations around Cochabamba and we thank God for their

faithfulness and these open doors.

There is hope to provide a larger facility for the 100 or more children who meet several

times a week.

7

Saturday 1st July USA:- Stuart Burns tells us that he and the IMM USA Committee have a sense of urgency to find new IMM workers, one couple to come alongside Stuart to eventually take over, one for South Africa as the need develops there, and possibly a couple for South America. The harvest is great – the labourers few. Pray that the Lord will equip them and bring them to IMM. Stuart also requests that we pray for wisdom and strength for him to pace himself and do just what God wants. Stuart

writes “As I get older I want to do more, not less, but alas the time clock keeps ticking.”

Sunday 2nd July Romania:- Pastor Cornel and Sanda Hudulin, although having stepped back from full time Church ministry still take every opportunity to preach. They are praising God that at a baptismal service in Lugoj, Cornel’s home town. The Holy Spirit was at work and about 9 people decided for Christ. At a recent revival service a total of eight people were saved. They thank IMM supporters for all their prayers and

support saying that “they feel the power of prayer”. Praise the Lord!

Monday 3rd July South Africa:- Pray for Soli and his continuing ministry to the local church, in the mine and raising his children. Praise the Lord for the children growing in the mining community churches showing spiritual growth and evidence of their faith in the Lord and in His word. May they continue to be strengthened in their spirits as they

learn more about the Lord Jesus.

Tuesday 4th July Kenya:- M2MM seeks prayers for its members to have the courage to speak of their faith to their fellow miners for whom the Gospel is mostly irrelevant. They await Bibles and songbooks (in the local Luo language) for distribution to their

neighbours.

Wednesday 5th July Several years ago, IMM South Africa began what has become a very successful Miners Bible School (MBS). Some IMM personnel from the UK and

USA have seen the ministry first hand and attended graduations of students who study at three different levels, using materials from The Emmanuel Press. Today, there are six IMM workers facilitating and overseeing the MBS ministry, and to date 300 students have successfully completed Bible courses and received graduation certificates along with

gift bibles. Praise the Lord!
