From the Principal’s desk…
The students are buzzing with excitement as
the Ungarie Show has finally arrived! The area
is certainly looking different than it was two
years ago after the last show was cancelled due
to the rain and flood. Don’t forget to pop into
the pavilion at the show on Saturday to see our
colourful school display and the entries our
students have spent hours preparing for in the
school art section. Thank you to Mrs Wason
and the Food Tech students for putting the
display up.
Last week was our first session of the
secondary fire and mechanic training. We had
Jason Lewis and Nathan Chantrill showing
one group of students around the fire truck
while Brad Crofts and Paul McClintock went
over some basic mechanics with the other
group. Thank you to those helpers for
volunteering their time to our school.
I’d like to congratulate our students for their
behaviour and efforts during the Mini
Olympics last week. It was great to see our
older students working with our younger
students, encouraging them in the different
activities.
‘Strong Minds’ provides free, evidence-based
counselling for children and adults. It aims to
provide timely access to support for people in
areas that experience barriers to mental
health. The service is up and running at the
Bland Medical Centre and they are now able
to see children under 12 years. If you feel this
service could help you or your child, please talk
to your doctor or health professional and they
can refer you or your child to the program.
The YAM (Youth Aware of Mental Health)
program has now been completed at UCS.
Tony and Melissa ran the program with 9/10
over two weeks and I was delighted to hear the
positive feedback from them about our
students. We are their favourite school so far!
We have three students competing at the State
CHS Athletics in Sydney this week, with Hugh
Williams running in the 800m yesterday.
Damian Batty will compete in the Open High
Jump and Jack Crofts in the 14 years 1500m
on Friday. Good luck boys!
Well done to our Year 3/4 Woodbridge Cup
Tennis team, who came 5th in the competition
in Wagga yesterday!
This week is School Administrative and
Support (SAS) Staff Recognition Week. Our
SAS staff play an important role in the school
community. They are essential to maintaining
positive relationships with students, parents
and the community, and help keep our school
running smoothly. We’d like to thank our SAS
staff, Telea Imrie, Justine Henley, Pam
Archibald, Carol Rattey, Michelle Potter,
Jason Lewis, Katie Ward and Jalen Hurley, for
their dedication to our school.

YEAR 7/8 PD/HEALTH/PE
‘Healthy Eating Habits’ was one of the content areas covered in Year 7/8 PD/Health/PE classes this year. For their
assessment task in this unit students had to plan and prepare a healthy meal in groups. These meals were then
reviewed by some of UCS staff. The students challenged their taste buds and food preparation skills by selecting
recipes that were different from what they usually eat and included a wide variety of skills to complete the recipe.
