CHILDHOOD
• Her first name Florence based on her born place • She stayed at di Lea Hurst, her father’ luxurious
house, William Nightingale. The rich and glamor land lord at Derbyshire, London. Her mom was an aristocrat
• Florence Nightingale had a sister, Parthenope.• Different character with her sister. Parthenope
was as socialite, Florence was prefer to help other people
JOURNEY TO GERMAN
• In 1846, she visited Kaiserswerth, german, and learn more the modern hospital from pastor/father Theodor Fliedner and his wife. It managed by Sister Lutheran (Catholic).
• She was impressed by commitment and care of sister to patients.
• So she felt in love to be a social nursing

Most people called doctor to home.• Nurse was despicable job. As a slut with army.• Impolite job, touch body directly. It was not deserved for educated
woman. Many sexual harassment. • Men was majority than women. Woman Nurse was a chef in
England• Florence argumented that germany was really appreciate a nurse
profession. As sisters in german catholic• Her father was agreed, he did not agree if she worked at hospital.• She still went to Caiserswerth, German to get training. • Her family afraid for social implication from catholic hospital with
christian.• She had ever worked at a Hospital in France for poor family.
RETURN TO ENGLAND• In 12 August 1853, Nightingale returned to England
and worked as supervisor at Nursing Institute for the Care of Sick Gentlewomen, Upper Harley Street, London, until October 1854.
• Her father gave ₤500 anually (nowadays ₤ 25,000 or Rp. 425 million)
• An argumentation arrised the hospital had not allowed catholic. Florence claimed to resign if the role would have changed;“ this hospital allowed for catholic, jews, and other religions. Including visit from pastor, father, rabi, and moslem”.
CRIMEAN WAR
• In 1854 war at peninsula crimean. England and france versus russia . Many victims and no nurses , “Did England have women who dedicated to be nurses?” Florence was an only woman who regitered.
• She took a note for her experience in her diary.• (Royal Commission on the Health of the Army),

• She was an only woman who brave to go to war field at night with 6 army and bring the lamp. Thus she got the name The lady with the lamp.
• In 1857 Henry Longfellow, was an american poet wrote poetry with title “Santa Filomena”, “ at suffering hours, an angel with the lamp came to me”
RETURN TO ENGLAND• Florence Nightingale returend to england and
became a Hero 7 August 1857, she became famous after Princess Victoria. Nightingale moved to her family house at Middle Claydon, Buckinghamshire, to Burlington Hotel at Piccadilly. But she got Fever.
• She got an invitation from Princess Victoria – established health commission for england Army, but Sidney Herbert as a chief. Because she was a woman. She established nursing school, wrote 1000 nursing paper and medical record

woman. • In 1882 many nurses worked in many hospitals• In 1860 Florence wrote Notes on Nursing 136 pages as guidance af Florence
nursing school and other schools in the world• In 1861 add her note about Baby Care.• In 1869, Nightingale and Elizabeth Blackwell established woman medical
university.• In 1870-an, Linda Richards, “the american first trained – nursing “ consulted with
Florence Nightingale. So Linda Richards became the pioneer of nursing in America and japan.
• In 1883 Florence was awarded The Royal Red Cross by Princess Victoria.• In 1907 , in 87 years old. King of England awarded Florence Nightingale The Order
Of Merit dan Florence Nightingale was the first woman.• In 1908, she awarded Honorary Freedom of the City from London.• In 7 February 1837 – before her seventeen – something happened and changed
her life, “God spoke to me and called me to served.”
HER LAST DAYS
• Florence Nightingale passed away in 90 years old at 13th August 1910. her family rejected to bury her at Westminster Abbey, and she buried at St. Margaret Church , Hampshire, England.
