The Hebrew University Executive Experience in Innovation and

Entrepreneurship is a unique, trailblazing program of tailor-

made seminars and workshops that reveal the secret of the

outstanding phenomenon called “The Startup Nation.”

Our program combines dynamic, up-to-the minute business

theory together with practical tools and techniques, to create an

unforgettable learning experience. We provide first hand

familiarity and training under Israel's most successful

entrepreneurial mentors through entrepreneurship and

innovation workshops. The curriculum harnesses decades of

excellence and experience of the Hebrew University to offer only

Our Learning

Environment

The seminar will be held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem,

and lectures will be given by the Hebrew University’s top

professors. The Hebrew University is Israel’s premier university

where nine (current and past) faculty members won the Nobel

Prize or the Fields medal. The Hebrew University School of

Business Administration is the top Israeli institution in

international rankings of academic business schools. Many of the

school's alumni are currently working as chief economic advisors,

policy makers, CEOs, and business managers. The school is the

leading institution in Israel in terms of its interdisciplinary

innovation and entrepreneurship programs, and one of the

leading institutions in the world in this respect. It is further a

renowned leader in Israel-China academic collaboration.

Lectures and

Workshops

Israel’s Innovation Eco-System

This lecture will give an overview of the Israeli eco-system and

explanations for the “Startup Nation” phenomenon, as follows:

Some facts about Israel’s innovation: famous Israeli innovative

companies, famous inventions from Israel, scientific facts

supporting Israel as an innovative country. The outset- why

Israel?- Sources of Israeli innovation, Michael Porter’s “Diamond

Model” and how it’s implemented in the Israeli innovative eco-

system. The role of the government: Government financial

support. The Hebrew University’s business school angle: The

innovation promoting eco-system in the Hebrew University.

The Next Frontier for Human Computer Interaction

In this lecture we will discuss dominant trends in human-

computer interaction and design throughout history, and review

of contemporary research paradigms in the field and their

challenges.

Innovation Strategy and Innovation Systematic Methods

This lecture focuses on studying new innovative tools to develop

a company or an organization’s strategy, and finding new ways

to enhance creativity in organizations and in businesses. The

ability to perform creatively plays an important role in gaining a

competitive advantage in many areas of business management,

and is often associated with personal and organizational

success. We will examine a number of cases and learn how we

can implement creativity and innovation in our own work

environments.

Entrepreneurship and Ideation

What is a good idea? How do you come up with good ideas?

Does passion matter with ideas? How can you tell what you are

passionate about? How do you translate your passion into one

or more business ideas? What basic tools should every Founder

have from the start? What tools should Founders use to develop

their ideas in the beginning? How would you validate your idea?

How to build a business model using business model canvas.

Investment Assessment

In this workshop students will learn about startup investment

strategy from the venture capital perspective, about market

structure, and will have the opportunity to work with the tools

that VCs use for analysis through case studies that are presented

and analyzed.

Game Theory

This lecture is given by the Nobel laureate in Economics, Prof.

Yisrael Aumann. Prof. Aumann will review the core elements in

his unique study of Game Theory and Game Engineering, and

will analyze various innovative methodologies in decision making

in theory and in daily life.

The IDF and the Startup Nation

Learn about the significant role the Israel Defense Force (IDF)

plays in the Israeli eco-system, and its contribution specifically to

the evolution of the hi-tech and startup industries.

Speakers

Prof. Niron Hashai

Niron Hashai joined the faculty of Hebrew University's School

of Business in September 2002. Prior to that, he was a

member of the faculty of the Bradford University School of

Management in the United Kingdom, and he also teaches

Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship at NYU.

Prof. Hashai’s current research focuses on the management

and economics of international business. His work studies the

theory of the multinational corporation; the

internationalization of "Born Global" firms; the relationships

between internationalization, product diversification and firm

performance; technological innovation and

internationalization; knowledge transfer costs; R&D

internationalization; and growth patterns of small hi­tech

firms. Prof. Hashai’s research papers have been published in

top strategic management, international business, and

innovation journals including: Strategic Management Journal

and Journal of International Business Studies and Research

Policy. He has also co­edited two books.

Dr. Amit Zoran

Amit Zoran is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering

and Computer Science at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem,

Israel. In his research, he explores the two divergent realms of

emerging computational technologies and classical hand-

hewn skills, studying digital fabrication, human-computer

interaction, craft, design and creative practice. Amit Zoran

received a BS in Communication System Engineering from

Ben-Gurion University, Israel; an M.Des. from Bezalel

Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, Israel; and an MS and

Ph.D. from the Media Lab at the MIT.

Dr. Sharon Arieli­Lenger

Dr. Arieli Lenger is a senior lecturer at the Hebrew University

for Creativity in Business, Innovative Strategies and Structures.

Dr. Sharon Arieli received her PhD from the Hebrew University

of Jerusalem. Her main research areas include:

- Creativity: Integrating both dispositional and situational

factors that influence creative performance.

- Culture: Studying the way cultural orientation and

mindset impact creativity in problem solving and

identity.

- Values: Exploring the impact of individual level and

cultural level values on people and organizations.

Dr. Shai Harel

Dr. Shai Harel is a senior researcher and lecturer for

Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the Hebrew

University. His main research field is the relation between

venture capital funds and startup companies. Among his

positions at the Hebrew University, Dr. Harel is the academic

manager of the EMBA program that specializes in startup and

business management. Dr. Harel is active in many projects of

promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.

Mr. Saul Singer

An American­ Israeli journalist and author. Formerly the

editorial­ page editor at The Jerusalem Post, Singer co­ wrote

with Dan Senor Start­up Nation: The Story of Israel’s Economic

Miracle, a best­seller which investigates Israel’s innovative

prowess.

Prof. Yisrael Robert Aumann

Robert John Aumann is an Israeli-American

mathematician and a member of the United States

National Academy of Sciences. He is a professor at the

Center for the Study of Rationality in the Hebrew

University of Jerusalem in Israel. He also holds a visiting

position at Stony Brook University and is one of the

founding members of the Stony Brook Center for Game

Theory. Aumann received the Nobel Prize in Economics

in 2005 for his work on conflict and cooperation through

game-theory analysis. He shared the prize with Thomas

Schelling.

Professional visits

Siftech

Jerusalem’s pioneer and largest accelerator. Siftech was founded

in early 2012 as grassroots initiative of the Hebrew University

Students Union, led by two extraordinary women, Stav Erez and

Inbar Ziv. Siftech started out as a community catalyst, organizing

events and initiating projects aimed at driving entrepreneurial

activity. Six months later, Siftech launched the first startup

accelerator in the city. As the nerve center of Jerusalem’s rapidly

growing startup scene, Siftech grows and supports local

entrepreneurial talent, providing the platforms, mentorship and

business opportunities for ventures to succeed.

JVP, Israel’s leading VC fund

The foundations for Jerusalem Venture Partner’s (JVP) track

record derive from the firm’s entrepreneurial spirit, experienced

team, and agile investment strategy. Established in 1993 by Erel

Margalit, JVP now has over $900 million under management. The

majority of the Fund's activities are led out of its International

Media Quarter in Jerusalem with industry advisors in New York

and Paris as well as an international network of strategic

partners.

Mobileye

Mobileye is a NASDAQ-listed company (biggest Israeli IPO),

doing business worldwide, currently developing the

autonomous car. Mobileye is a technological leader in the

area of software algorithms, system on chips and customer

applications that are based on processing visual information

for the market of driver assistance systems (DAS).

Mobileye’s technology keeps passengers safer on the roads,

potential to revolutionize the driving experience by enabling

autonomous driving. Mobileye was cofounded by Hebrew

University researcher Prof. Amnon Shashua, who now serves as

its CTO, with the assistance of Yissum, the TechTransfer

company of the Hebrew University.

Microsoft Ventures

Microsoft Ventures is a global initiative empowering

entrepreneurs around the world on their journey to build

great companies. Microsoft Ventures Accelerator Israel was

founded with one goal in mind: to help startups pave their

road to success. Microsoft Ventures Israel works with

startups at all stages and provides tools, resources,

knowledge and expertise that they need to succeed. The

4­month program is aimed at helping our early stage startups

doing big things in Cloud, Internet, and mobile.

WeWork

Israel’s biggest startup community.

Founded in New York, WeWork transforms buildings around

the world into beautiful, collaborative workspaces and

provides infrastructure, services, events, and technology so its

members can focus on doing what they love – creating terrific

startups.

Google Campus

Google’s Innovation Center in Israel was established in 2012.

Its aim is to become the main platform for startup companies

in Israel, through which they could grow in to great success.

The center provides direct access to hi-tech equipment and

software laboratory for the companies to use for their

application evaluation and product inspection.

Intel

As the biggest tech company in Israel, Intel is responsible for

much of the country's hi-tech Eco-system, with one out of

every 10 people in tech working either directly or peripherally

for projects associated with Intel.

Operating in Israel since 1974, some of Israel's most

important products were conceived, designed, and

manufactured in Intel Israel.

Gemsense

A pioneer in the emerging world of wearable sensor

technology, the company is making a power-efficient, button-

sized wearable computer with BLE connectivity that enables

developers to quickly create a broad range of wearable

technologies.

ReWalk

ReWalk Robotics is an innovative medical device company that

is designing, developing, and commercializing exoskeletons,

allowing wheelchair-bound individuals to stand and walk.

ReWalk’s mission is to fundamentally change the quality of life

for individuals with lower-limb disability through the creation

and development of market-leading robotic technologies.

Current ReWalk designs are intended for people with

paraplegia, a spinal-cord injury resulting in complete or

incomplete paralysis of the legs. The system uses patented

motion-sensing technology along with battery-powered

motorized legs powering knee and hip movement, which is

controlled by proprietary on-board computers and software.

Rainbow Medical

Rainbow Medical is a unique private operational company

that seeds and grows companies developing breakthrough

medical devices invented by Yossi Gross in a diverse range

of medical fields. By addressing significant unmet market

needs, Rainbow Medical seeks to generate exceptional

returns for its investors.
