The Great Moment of GTA Video Games

GTA isn't the same it was in the PS2 era

of the series, it just isn't really. There's a

sense of self-importance about the

series now, maybe an expectation of its

hyper-popularity or possibly a

developing Rockstar aiming to do

something 'serious'.

So there were issues - after GTA 4 - that

Rockstar was taking a various,

unwanted direction, and many gamers

were burnt out by GTA 4's objectives,

the surface-deep appeal of Liberty City

or the not-so-tongue-in-cheek

characters.

None of that matters, however, due to

the fact that GTA 5 is remarkable. This

is GTA, as we understand it.

Page 3: The Great Moment Of GTA Video Games

As is frequently the case with any GTA,

the star of the show with GTA 5 is its

city. Los Santos is something else

entirely, a world brimming with detail

and as much a technical

accomplishment as anything else.

Sure, it's not nearly as smooth-edged as

the GTA 5 trailers recommended,

however it's excellent all the very same.

It's uncommon for a video game to stop

you in your tracks nowadays, but there

are a number of minutes where GTA 5

does simply that.

It can be the glaring light of dawn as it

glances over Mount Chiliad, racing

Page 4: The Great Moment Of GTA Video Games

during the Los Santos sewer basin at

sunset or merely watching a practical

world just take place as the lights of

distant tower blocks switch on.

GTA 5's world is something else, with a

level of detail we haven't seen

considering that Sleeping Canines-- but

on a significantly larger scale.

Page 5: The Great Moment Of GTA Video Games

Pick any point on the map and there will

certainly be some finite-- and low-

profile-- piece of the world to soak up.

GTA 5 is quickly one of the most

impressive productions this generation,

if not for high-end graphics-- the

similarity Crysis 3 and Battlefield 3 win

on this front-- than for its scale.

But make certain you take a look at the

water-- especially out at sea-- it is

incredible.

Page 6: The Great Moment Of GTA Video Games

But any world-- nevertheless

remarkable-- is pointless without things

to do. Knowing from the mistakes of

GTA 4, nevertheless, GTA 5 has

countless things to see and do.

This could be the incidental video

games of tennis or yoga sessions,

competing in triathlons or races on the

dirty trails of Blaine County or even the

far grander events in the form of

parachuting or hunting.

Page 7: The Great Moment Of GTA Video Games

Then there's the myriad collectables,

Red Dead Redemption-style bounty

missions or the numerous dynamic

events that appear within the world.

Or the Freaks and Strangers that litter

Los Santos, from a senior couple

collecting star underclothing or a two-

man Border Patrol staff who hunt down

and arrest presumed immigrants for no

factor other than their own sense of

prejudice.

Then, obviously, there's the general

dicking about. GTA 4 was too sombre

an experience; as fantastic as Niko

Bellic was, he had not been someone

you might live in. He was too serious,

too melancholy.

Fortunately it's not such a task to obtain

hold of weapons and it does not feel

quite as dreadful to weapon a random

resident down in cold blood. Then know

that you'll have hours of meaningless

murder to look forward to, if genocide

was your preferred activity in GTA.

Unless you've ignored every mention of

GTA 5 because its reveal-- if so, why

are you reading this?-- then you'll

already know you can play as one of

three characters, at any point.

There's Michael, the retired scoundrel

who's much more psychotic than he lets

on. There's Trevor, who's much more

psychotic than he lets on, even despite

making it clear to the world just how

deranged he is.

Page 10: The Great Moment Of GTA Video Games

And afterwards there's Franklin, who will

likely become called 'the other one'.

Rockstar's lastly handled to produce a

set of characters beyond its normal

design template: you understand, the

inherently bad man who just wants to be

a hero, however The Guy simply cannot

let him escape his previous criminal

activities. That Rockstar template.

Michael is perhaps the closest fit to this

generally Rockstar lead character-- with

the exception that he's currently settled

down, and really prefers the moments

where he's a little more anarchic.

Page 11: The Great Moment Of GTA Video Games

Trevor is the complete opposite. He isn't

settling down whenever soon, and relish

the bloody chaos. Without a doubt the

best character of the 3-- and not just

since of his penchant for murder--

Trevor is surprisingly deep as a

character, too.

And Franklin, the simple would-be

gangsta that functions as a kind of

neutral ground for Michael and Trevor.

Page 12: The Great Moment Of GTA Video Games

He's as delighted to eliminate as the

other 2, however somehow manages to

come across as quaint, friendly, good

even.

Like a puppy killing a bird Franklin

somehow appears enjoyable in spite of

his brutality, immune to the otherwise

highly-strung nature of Michael and

Trevor. ( the original source )
